DFK got a horde of modes in its ports - I can't imagine the world needs another arrange or mode of that game. Resurrection is stuffed full of gameplay as it is.

This is pretty much what I said would happen in the CAVE is dead thread. There is absolutely no reason for them to sit on IP for years when they could be selling games in perpetuity on these online stores on PC and console. Cheap ports, remakes, sequels are how every gaming company in the world is doing it right now. It's a very low risk strategy especially if you're just farming your back catalogue and pushing all the development onto some third party developer. Let the milking commence.

And we also have various Darius and Ray-series games. I guess that was Taito's decision, though.

yeah, it will have a visual novel mode.
Glad they have Kouji Ogata back, and I hope the new music is good (Ryu☆ retweeting the post got me all hyped up)

I know that wasn't the case in Japan but putting any trust in CAVE has been never-ending disappointment for the past 15ish years. For starter, I can see this really badly priced considering their X360 era practices.

They tried 10 years ago through Degica, didn't work as seemingly the actual audience wasn't big enough, they try again now by themselves. Before this period, Cave made quite clear they'd be focusing on smart phones while they retired from arcade and consumer development. There was not much ground for "never-ending" disappointment in this case, was there? That's why this announcement is such an event. Now, if you expected (more) ports from other companies licensing their franchises, it's those you should aim your complaints at.Jotamide wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2026 4:35 amThey're only 10 years late to the party.Bassa-Bassa wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2026 10:41 amIt's a good way to test out 2026's Western PC market. I'm honestly surprised people are looking forward to anything from them at this point. But maybe I'm an old, jaded fan and should just step away from this one and just watch from afar.

Who else is comparable to them? PC world may be different, but Livewire is the only company doing ports these days I can think of who are close to their league.

I don't get why they licensed out Mushi for Switch Euro Physical at a very reasonable RRP, but not ESP Rade? Sick of shelling out for imports in this day and age that rapidly soar well over 50 quid. Surely with Google Translate the Japanese can read forums like this..? Cash waiting.

Two different publishers. Livewire did Mushi, but M2 did Esprade. Mushi was also just a 360 port, while ‘rade was new to consoles.R79 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2026 10:15 pm I don't get why they licensed out Mushi for Switch Euro Physical at a very reasonable RRP, but not ESP Rade? Wow, Cave finds the strength to release new material for the home pc market. That is quite unexpected.
Let us hope this is supported by a business model that can pay for the development of high production value games while feeling fair to the players.
It is interesting to see that they publish themselves.
We will see. We are not living in the early 2000s anymore and things are different. Time will find the answer if CAVE still have the power to amaze me like only very few other developers have had. The A (art) part of the acronym was so exceptionally well done, there is a hell of a legacy to defend and expectations to live up to.

Why it's the world-famous acronym that is Cave -- they've set the "bar quite high" as it is. Will they be able to match or at least top DDP-DFK (in terms of gameplay & game mechanics) with this upcoming newfangled DDP-RR release?

This is certainly a choice. DFK’s alright, a fairly mid game by CAVE standards and has already been ported to a bunch of platforms; meanwhile Futari is just sitting there, unported since 2009 in a Japan exclusive Xbox 360 only release, and is the best shmup ever made by a long shot. You can’t tell the history of the greatest shmups of all time time without Futari and the game hasn’t had a port in 17 years, and literally never released outside of Japan.

Think it is also choice whether or not to just... embrace Xenia lol!!!~To Far Away Times wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2026 11:49 pm This is certainly a choice. For me... at the end... could not wait. Went to buy 360 copy of Futari (special edition with OST too!), have it sitting in my corner proudly! And just play it on Xenia. For normal non-special edition Futari price still not too bad I think. But... of course... Faith admits the lack of easy access (like... being on Steam) is Futari biggest problem >.<!~
I think also... Futari one of those games... watching 1CC is not good enough. In past... I always thought... why is Futari so great anyway? It took long time to finally actually buy it, try it... and understand. Also... actually don't think Cave can do better than Xenia lol. Because... you run Futari in Xenia... turn on FSR... and it just looks... crazy, crazy good. Super, super sharp! And very, very clean! I found that out by accident... just messing with Xenia trying to get game run better. Then when I saw the display options and read what FSR do... ohhh soo sharp and beautiful now @____@"... and input lag is great too!!~
Anyway... point is I think, even if it is not easy to access... it is these days still more easy to access than ever before. And how to set up Xenia to run it, and so on... all well documented in our Xenia thread!

I'd rather play a simple mode that uses DDPDOJ's hyper system instead of the endless bullet cancelling bullshit Daifukkatsu has going. I get that convoluted scoring systems a la Akai Katana pander to shmup otakus, but I don't see what's wrong with simple stuff like medal (or item) collection or even just simple survival.

DFK Black Label Arrange is one of the best stgs I've ever played. I haven't beaten it yet so I'm not of a mind to die on that hill, but I would take some grievous wounds over it. On Resurrection I like playing it with the Black Label soundtrack under it instead of the Ketsui Virt one, it feels like the Ketsui sequel we never got.bobrocks95 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2026 3:59 pm Surprisingly negative reception to the news of a new CAVE release- I guess DFK really is that bad huh?

Re: DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite Announced
DFK isn't necessarily my fave Cave game but I'm here for this anyway. I'm very curious what they've got for the new character/mode they're teasing. Having played a few Gothic Mahou wa Otome events, the designers that are still there genuinely do still know how to design interesting shmup stuff and I'm pretty happy to see them freed from the free-to-play phone game mines.
I'd love to see Futari ported, but since that one was ported by M2 I suspect Cave doesn't fully own the code to the port and it's not as easy to port that from 360 compared to some of their other games. Or, at least, it would cost them more money and be more logistically complicated to do. I hope it happens though.

Re: DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite Announced
I'm a DFK defender but I agree it's probably the game that least urgently needs a new release with a new arrange mode. But if they are going for a more experimental format it might make more sense.
Until we get more details I am going to enjoy speculating wildly. Assuming enough STG devs remain to do it properly, I would be pretty stoked if they make a whole new stage like they did for Akai Katana Shin or Deathsmiles MBL. (There's also some precedent in the Raiden games I think). A new arrange mode also seems likely, and maybe there'll be the option to play 1.5 with a new ship and stage at least.
But the question of what happens to the old release also has big implications and I'm not sure what would be best. If they go the Crimzon Clover route and include everything all in the new package then that's going to be a pretty substantial offering. But it could also plausibly be its own stand alone release in which case the new content would have to be more substantial. iirc DFK Black Label + Ketsui arrange was not DLC for the original 360 release but its own separate game.
I wonder if they're going to try and include some kind of mission mode something. Not a totally new idea but something about the blurb suggests they might be trying to draw in new players with different gameplay formats. If the VN theory is true then the good news is that they will definitely include a port of DDP as a reference to Instant Brain. Other than that "Implements new features that support fresh challenges for everyone" could just be referring to more customizable practice options.
The line "Not dead yet" wouldn't normally inspire confidence, bit in this case it's pretty exciting to have CAVE active again, and if all they do is rebrand some of their old games it will be a huge win if that also means they port some of the absent ones too.

14. DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu/1.5/Resurrection (ARC/etc.)
I think... main issue is not that DFK is bad... as you can see from latest voting result lol... but it is definitely that one Cave game... with strong opinions on both sides >.<!~

The Donpachi/DoDonpachi franchise is Cave's iconic "bread 'n' butter" stg series -- it's befitting that Cave would return to it's namesake stg series worthy of the DoDonpachi moniker. Am looking forward to when Cave officially announces the release date for DDP-RR regardless of the initial asking MSRP pricepoint (whatever that may be is anyone's guess at best).
----------
I was not happy with the Cave CV-1000 jamma pcb release of DoDonpachi Dai Fukkatsu Ver1.5 with it's "auto-bombing" feature going on -- the eventual follow-up of the Cave CV-1000 jamma pcb release of DoDonpachi Dai Fukkatsu Black Label with the option to manually select auto-bombing or disable it completely was a major breakthrough indeed (something Cave should've implemented from the "get-go" with the DDP-DFK v1.5 pcb release but alas, they didn't do so).

I guess what's dividing people is the bullet cancelling mechanic (hypers let you cancel bullets for their duration - I think it's dumb) and in the final level some level design that's heavily reminiscent of Ghosts'n Goblins in if you don't know the exact route you will die (might be talking out of my ass here though, but I've been told many times though that as soon as you know the route it's a piece of cake). Black Label is convoluted and the Ketsui mode even more so (again, I would have been totally fine with Ketsui's simple and incredibly rewarding scoring system transferred into Daifukkatsu, but no, it just added that on top of all the convoluted bullshit of black label).bobrocks95 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2026 3:59 pm Surprisingly negative reception to the news of a new CAVE release- I guess DFK really is that bad huh?
