Re: DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite Announced
Huh.
A new arrange?
There’s a line in the game description about elements “hinting at a new battlefield.” The language is very calculated to set off rumors about a true new DDP sequel - and, if there will be such a sequel, perhaps they’re priming the theoretical release by launching a new protagonist or antagonist. There’s room in Resurrection’s structure for alternative stages and convoluted plots about new developments in the fabric of time that have consequences for past and future or whatever.
Developed by Cave. What a time.

The new stages is interesting too. Are they arranged versions of existing stages or actually brand new stages? Pretty wild.

Re: DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite Announced
I'm a bit worried about the "new features that support fresh challenges for everyone from beginners to returning players" and "new elements to welcome a new generation of challengers on steam".
CAVE has historically been ultra dogshit with making their games inviting for non-shmup players. Not in the sense of difficulty, they know how to make easy modes, but actually showing them how to play the game, forcing them to play the game properly, actually engaging them into playing the games at all. I can't think of one CAVE port that didn't ship with infinite continues.

I'm surprised that Cave Co. Ltd. themselves would release DDP-RR for the Steam platform and not for the Exa-Arcadia platform (they still could do so).
---------
The real question to ask is: Will it be playable on the Steam Deck?

Weird. I thought SaiDaiOuJou was marketed as the grand finale of the franchise back then.jehu wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2026 7:21 am There’s a line in the game description about elements “hinting at a new battlefield.” The language is very calculated to set off rumors about a true new DDP sequel - and, if there will be such a sequel, perhaps they’re priming the theoretical release by launching a new protagonist or antagonist. That Ai on the right side of the Steam screenshots looks like a crappy AI upscale. CAVE potentially coming back to develop something in-house is bad news imo. They should stick to license all their catalogue to M2.

Cave coming back to develop something in-house for proper video game systems is fantastic news no matter what. Doesn't seem like M2 can handle everything they already promised.
Being this on Windows, hopefully they include a 480x640 mode in order to get the graphics full-screen at their native resolution on a VGA monitor like they did on the 360 ports, please?

I'm glad to see signs of life, but why Daifukkatsu again? It already has a fantastic release on Steam, and I've been under the impression it's the least liked game in the series (excluding Bee Storm for obvious reasons).
I get wanting to publish the game themselves this time around, it just seems like a weird way to kick things off. There are very obvious and pragmatic reasons as to why this will have modest sales compared to what a similar release of DDP/DOJ/etc could do, and I hope they understand that (though I fear they probably don't).

Re: DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite Announced
Wow! Wow!! Wow!!!~ A new Cave release... in 2026??? Amazing!!!!!~
Even if it looks like an Arrange... of a game we already have on Steam... this I think... is still a very good sign! I hope... and I know... Daifukkatsu... not always have the best reputation on this forum haha (see top 25 shmup thread)... but really hope this does well... and maybe... maybe... some day we can finally get Futari, Ketsui, Saidaioujou... so on... on Steam too! Never thought I would see this day come!!!~
I think... biggest question for me is: will the current "DoDonPachi Resurrection" on Steam stay? Will this have all the content from existing release? Or... will it just be the new content? Would love to know!
STG NEVER DIE!!!

I think... there is too much we do not know >.<"... because... maybe they find this easiest to work with because of assets already done before for PC? Maybe their license of the port allowed them full ownership of it... so it was easier for them to take existing product... and modify it... as a "test run" to see if they can do it? We do not know... when they make license for other company to port it... maybe for them, the $$$ not worth it? Maybe they feel... more risky to pay someone else to do? We really do not know!!!
But I admit... it is a bit weird... to see another Resurrection... when we already have one @_@"... but like said... we do not know all info!~ But, really wish Cave the best!!~

It's a good way to test out 2026's Western PC market. They already have the game made, and in high resolution. Just need to add some extras to justify calling it differently and see how's the people's response against their investment.DietSoap wrote: I'm glad to see signs of life, but why Daifukkatsu again? It's always great to see some signs of life from CAVE.
The fact that it has a PC release is most welcome news for me, since it means I get to play it.
An article on Time Extension says this is «part of a new "Refine Series"», which appears to hint there's more "revivals"/re-releases coming in the future:

They opened a new twitter account claiming "not dead yet"

Is Cave back? How many of the actual STG dev team is still there?

Re: DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite Announced
It's not a fantastic release. The slowdown is half-assed at best, completely missing in one mode, and wildly inaccurate in general. As far as I know, DFK outsold SDOJ by miles; while DOJ is still considered better in general, that had a recent M2 rerelease.

I’m cautiously optimistic. More CAVE is… exciting? But also why now? Why DFK? Will it run like garbage?

Re: DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite Announced
It's a bit baffling that from all the titles people were asking for on steam (ketsui deathtiny, sdoj, futari etc) they chose this one
It might be the easiest to do, but I really hope this is a sort of test balloon with modest expectations.
I mean, with iOS, 360 and Steam many have bought DFK at least one time already.
I'll probably buy it a third time when the arrange will be as fantastic as deathtiny I guess...No pressure

This is like the fourth game made by Cave on PC, though.

Re: DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite Announced
The lack of Futari is a big sore spot given the PC release of the first game having relatively good popularity. You'd think that'd be an easy decision, but I imagine there might be some licensing issues keeping them from porting specific games. Maybe Exa's got a Futari rerelease in the works or something like they did with SDOJ.

Re: DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite Announced
That's a good answer---DFK has a broad surface appeal to it, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are some numbers that suggest it sells better in some capacity.Sengoku Strider wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2026 3:17 pmLess loli than SDOJ, more recent and visually striking than DOJ? It's kind of the perfect medium.
At the same time, it's already been released on PC semi-recently. And as others are pointing out, there are some other really good choices for a PC release (that I personally would have preferred over DFK).

My guess is that Futari is the only 360 port published by Cave but not developed by them.

OMG, I'm bumped!!!
Let`s go CAVE give us that sweet new Bullet Hell fix! While it's only an Arrange Mode with some new stage(s), I'm still excited.

Yup, I read it the same way. I'm guessing it's a way to the test the waters. This is the thing I think about when it comes to people wanting games from old developers. Without the original talent involved, it just becomes the developer in name. But for something like this where it is just another arrange, there is not too much to mess up. As for me, this will be a pass. I really only have interests in v1.5 and Black Label which are already available. I personally don't have interest in another arrange.

A healthy dose of scepticism is more than justified.
Yo Cave, I gladly doubledip for a M2-style job on Guwange!
