Berserk is an excellent example of top notch anime, especially it's story. Consider it highly recommended by yours truly.

Shoot, I didn't, did I? :( It must have come out after I posted that.

Although, Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo explodes my brain

I'm currently watching Rahxephon and Cowboy Bebop, and loving both of them to bits, especially Bebop. See you space cowboy!

As for manga, I don't read very much but a friend of mine picked me up the first issue of "Zetman" in Japan, and that looks pretty interesting. Mutations, kids with terrifying psychic powers, and naked ladies!

Anyone got any thoughts on Rahxephon?

Alright, which one of you people recommended Ouran High School Host Club to me? I'm halfway through the fansubs, and its weird. Very weird. And yet strangely addicting.

@SAM
- School Rumble:
Finished reading the manga up to date a while back, and currently up to ep13 of School Rumble 2nd. Really funny, I like it. Quite predictable for a love comedy though.

- Gunslinger Girl:
Haven't had a chance to read this yet.

- Elma:
Maids? The last thing I watched/read with a maid in was Mahoromatic. ^_-

- Shakugan no Shana:
Absolute brilliant, definitely worth the price of admission. Just picked up Noizi Ito's Shana linework book ('Scarlet' from Comiket 69) off YAJ, love the line work of the characters.

@Gorecki:
Cowboy Bebop is fascinating stuff. Haven't had the chance to watch Rahxephon yet, but from word-of-mouth its very well made and one to watch.

That would be me.

Romantic comedy that isn't your generic harem pap, a show that makes fun of its own concepts, its own fanbase, a completely different but similar-acting fanbase? Fanservice like this?

I think the only other show that I'm enjoying as much as this is Musashi Gun, which I am enjoying for an entirely different reason. (Hint: It's so intentionally bad)

You'd probably like my other suggestions -- it's been hard to find others that have similar taste these days (it's all about pap like Zero no Tsukaima or Maria-sama ga Miteru, or something or other)

I've heard of that, might pick it up at some point. Got a ton of other stuff to watch first, though. ^_-

Yeah, tsundere, and blatant yuri stuff like Marimite and Mai-HiME/Otome, while interesting, can get tiring after a while. I'm not too bothered by harem as long as its done well. I was originally thrown off by Ouran Host Club since it started off like yaoi, but it turned out to be pretty funny.

I'm usually quite open minded when it comes to anime and manga, as long as its done well, has good story (or in the case of stuff like Aria, interesting) and not packed with filler.

What do you think of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni?

There are new TV amine series for D.N.A. and I's.

Watching.

The manga has a much less likable Satou (but it's much more hilarious).

I'd like to agree, I really would... however the show is crippled with some of the lowest quality animation since Violinist of Hamlin (the cruddy director's last show) as well as an inability to keep up the methodical pacing of the manga.

It does have a kickass soundtrack though (excluding the inexcusably bad opening and closing songs).

So, yeah, skip the anime and go straight to the manga............ and the dreamcast game. ^_^

If you're talking about Samura's Ohikkoshi, apparently its been licensed by Dark Horse.

http://manganews.net/seriesinfo.php?id=4390
http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=13-546

Its released in October.

Just going to throw up one more recommendation here, and thats for Someday's Dreamers by Norie Yamada and Kumichi Yoshizuki. Its a really nice take on magic in modern society, and the art, the characters and the story is fabulous. Licensed by Tokyopop. Get the manga, as its great, the anime is a bit so-so.

It has been published in Italy as well, and it was a sweet reading. So I can only add my praise to it!

Manga I've enjoyed a lot over the past year:

Cannon God Exaxxion: Boy's grandfather builds a giant robot to fight alien invaders. This manga makes no pretense in deluding itself that it is original. On surface-level, it seems very contrived. But it is very well thought out and unique in its own way. Written/drawn by Kenichi Sonoda, my favorite anime/manga artist responsible for Gunsmith Cats, Gal Force, and Bubblegum Crisis (the original one).

Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunsou): I love this series. Like Minzoku mentioned way earlier in this thread, it's a spoof manga. Frog-like alien invaders end up being adopted as pets to some Japanese school kids. Constantly plotting to take over the world and failing at the hands of these same kids. Lots of classic anime references: Gundam in heaps, Macross, Dirty Pair, Evangelion, Ultraman, on and on and on. Great, hilarious book. I hope they'll bring the TV series on DVD domestically. The anime is great, but the adult humor is toned way down and focuses on the cute factor for kids.

Record of the Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight: My introduction to Lodoss. The last part of the original anime OVA went in a different direction, and wasn't handled quite as well as it could have. This manga redoes this last part and focuses on a new generation of adventurers, some of them the children of the original characters. Excellent art by Masato Natsumoto.

MS Gundam- Lost War Chronicles: Similar to the 08th MS Team anime series. Only two volumes are out now, but it's fun to read. Art also by Natsumoto, who is becoming one of my favorite artists.

Di Gi Charat: The mascot from the Gamers chain store has her own manga. Only for lovers of cute stuff.

Red Prowling Devil: I picked this up used because it looked similar to Area 88. The main star is a girl though, who is blackmailed into slavery to be an assassin flying a Mig. I've only read the first volume so far.

Seikai Trilogy: I just picked this one up at the used book store. Haven't read it yet, but it looks very interesting. Based off a popular Japanese SF novel trilogy.
Undamned is the leading English-speaking expert on the consolized UD-CPS2 because he's the one who made it.

Muteki Kanban Musume is a must-watch for pure unadulterated overblown cartoon violence. Itchy trigger finger temper noodle delivery girl makes life hell for basically everyone else.
