In Well Keeper you'll fight waves of insectoid creatures and bosses and upgrade a variety of abilities to become really powerful. You move by flapping sideways and you can also dash. Shooting is done automatically.
Very curious to hear what you think of this game as it's not a traditional shmup when it comes to aesthetics and movement. I've currently tagged it as a bullet hell shmup on Steam, but I'm not sure those are accurate.
Considering everything from FPS to gambling simulators are tagged "Bullet Hell Shmup" on Steam I think you're fine, haha.
The game certainly looks very interesting; I'll be curious to see how it turns out.
Kinda reminds me of something you'd see in the arcades before genres were really solidified.
I think there's a place for games where motion itself is part of the challenge of gameplay (SMB1 for example).
A concern I'm sure many in these circles will have (myself included) is the upgrades- like, is the game balanced for minimum power? Max power? Somewhere in between? How long do you have to play before you're strong enough for "normal" gameplay? That's something you've got to be careful of (See Cygni for a modern example). Maybe include an "Arcade Mode" or something which is balanced around starting from zero every run? Just an off-the-cuff suggestion, obviously I could be wrong because I have no info about the game's structure other than that little trailer. A demo or something would be very enlightening, and allow more proper feedback.
I wish you luck with development!
