First official localization, too!

For cj iwakura,

How's the overall 4K UHD presentation of "Macross: Do You Remember Love"?

----------
In one particular scene of a Itano-stylized missile barrage, there's a lone Budweiser beer can being used as one of those missiles complete with accompanying flame and smoke trails galore (if you do a "frame by frame" analysis of it) -- blink and you'll miss it type of "tongue in cheek" low-ball humor/parody at it's best with the animators that worked on the hand-drawn animation cels of "Macross: DYRL".
----------

Many moons ago at my Software Etc game store (that eventually became a Gamestop store), I'd periodically check the bargain bin and lo behold, a single brand new and sealed VHS tape of Macross was priced for sale at a mere $3.99 usd. I immediately bought it and hurried home to check it out. Upon opening it up, it turned to be the fabled "Macross: DYRL" anime film dubbed with English voiceovers and presented in cheap-ass recorded SLP (Super Long Play) to save on production costs rather than using an SP (Standard Play) VHS cassette. Still have it to this very day.

Suncoast Pictures Company (aka FYE nowadays) sold the 2003 released Animego DVD set of Super Dimensional Fortress Macross anime series brand new for $99.99 usd and bought it as it was the first boxed set (out of two) but didn't buy the second boxed set for completeness. Was curious to see how it compared to Harmony Gold's version of Robotech Macross -- it sure is quite different, indeed.

I also grabbed this. Absolutely stunning set! One step closer to the original Macross series getting a blu ray release with English subtitles.

Maybe someday we’ll get Mospeada as well.

Yes, Genesis Climber Mospeada anime series on Blu-ray format or even 4K format definitely would be ace in my book. Or even a proper sequel would be even better considering that's it's long overdue ever since it's original 1983 Japanese TV airwave debut. The Legioss mecha toys from Gakken were legendary.

Finally checked out the 4K UHD disc of Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? anime movie. Wow, the "frame-by-frame" restoration is quite something else compared to the 2016 Blu-Ray release of the very same Macross film -- it's like "night & day" in how crystal clear, razor sharp and richly detailed the animation really is to fully appreciate it nowadays in 2025. Makes me wonder how long it took to do it properly -- not to mention the time, patience and countless yen spent to get it done as a labor of love and reverence of it all (of course, to see it as originally intended on the Japanese silver screen presented in 35mm theatrical film format back in the Summer of 1984 must have been quite something to watch/experience/behold). This bundled set comes with a 4K & BR disc set + a 24 page booklet packed with some cool tidbits and general info on the 4K restoration project of the legendary 1984 Macross film (it'd sure be nice if the booklet could be translated into English).

----------
It wouldn't be until Harmony Gold released Robotech on American TV airwaves back in Spring Break Easter Week of April 1985 grand debut that Yanks would catch a brief glimpse of Macross with the little-seen introductory "Code Name: Robotech" video that aired along with the very first Robotech episode that aired afterwards showcasing it and the rest is history.
----------

There's even a bonus inclusion of Macross 2012: Flashback OVA circa 1987 to gloss over as well. This particular anime film was the basis/inspiration for Banpresto/NMK's Super Dimesional Fortress Macross arcade stg released in the Japanese game centers back in 1992 (not to mention that American arcade distributor Fabtek did sell/distribute Super Space Fortress Macross arcade jamma pcb kits stateside in late 1992 as well -- if you were an arcade gamer & anime fan during that time period, it was quite awesome to play the arcade Macross stg in the "Silver Age of Arcades" era). The outer UHD case box features all new artwork done by Haruhiko Mikimoto which is a cool visual nod/tribute that's befitting towards the famous Macross film itself.

If you're an anime fan like myself, do not miss the opportunity to check out this new 4K release of SDF Macross: DYRL? bundled set -- it's well-worth revisiting through "nostalgia-tinted lenses" nowadays.

JP Sega Saturn, Gundam Side Story games I, II and III, in jewel case version.

Still growing my stupid collection of buying as many of them as I can. Taking a picture for the 80th copy : 51 copies of Side Story I, 26 copies of Side Story II, and 3 copies of Side Story III.
The latter is definitely one of the rarest game on the system ; one of my copy is missing its spine card unfortunately, but still really glad to have 3 of them !

Enjoy the stupidity 8)

If you deal with reports or forms saved in XPS format, this tool is your new go-to. I stumbled upon it while trying to generate PDFs for a municipal documentation project, and it’s honestly amazing. No cluttered ads or confusing menus—just upload your XPS file and convert it in one click. 🖐️ You can even adjust page parameters to fit what you need, whether it’s A4 or US Letter. I’ve used it multiple times already and it’s always accurate. Here’s the link I’ve bookmarked https://www.coolutils.com/online/XPS-to-PDF it’s truly a reliable online service that simplifies work without compromising quality.
Ordered a set of Agatha Christie books. Hope that in a few days I will be able to grab it.

I saw one or two in Japan when I went. But I found with the heat factor and me dripping with sweat I really wasn't in the mood for getting into more complicated stuff than I had to. Shopping in Japan by CD spine is a laborious task if you don't read Japanese especially when they stack games at ankle level with no room to turn around
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Picked up one of those awesome Tomy Digital Derby electromechanical-based racing games that had been released in the USA, Europe & Japan (also known as "Black Racer") back in 1978. If you look on the backside, you'll see the Tomy Copyright 1978 & Made in Japan moniker. It's based on Formula 1 racing with celluloid film medium being used to depict the opponent F1 cars out on a racetrack (using three separate film sprocket gear mechanisms scrolling at different speeds). By using a mechanical-based three-speed gear shifter (with an impressive & intricate circular gearing sub-array layout for the three different speeds selectable "on the fly" if it needed be), the goal is to earn the highest "lap count" before the race ends as indicated on the mechanical-based timer clock graphical user interface.

With Tomy's team of "in-house" mechanical engineers based in both the USA & Japan (with mechanical ingenuity & innovative concepts), they managed to create the Digital Derby/Black Racer handheld racing game using a single DC-powered Mabuchi branded motor that powers up the F1 racing opponents, the mechanical scrolling lap counter, the three-speed gear shifter, the timer clock, the light-up "crash effect" interface if your F1 race car hits another F1 car either head-on, from the backside or from the left or right sides (using two simple copper contact points to trigger the impressive bright red light-up crash EFX if electrical contact is made with the player's F1 car) and the red colored Start/Reset button that starts a brand new racing session & disengages the activated lit-up Crash EFX as well (using an automatic geared clutch interface that activates the spooling film mechanism again after a crash is detected & reset) -- all of these six separate mechanical components are working together in unison/real-time which is quite amazing and mind boggling (and was designed and built without the assistance of CAD {Computer Aided Drafting} whatsoever is all the more impressive considering that this was considered "state-of-the-art" electro-mechanical engineering at it's best). Of course, steering your F1 car using the tried-and-true proven "rack and pinion" steering mechanism works flawlessly. Just a mere two C alkaline-based batteries powers up the entire Digital Derby game indeed.

----------
A definite cool retro throwback nod to F1 racing with Tomy's Digital Derby/Black Racer game is worth getting for your own gaming collection/stash alrighty. It does fetch some higher prices in the three figure range easily, especially if in super mint or brand new condition nowadays on the secondary collector's market. The Tomy electro-mechanical and wind-up powered games from the late 1970s and early 1980s with it's Arcade Pocket/TechnoBoy series is the highest echelon of mechanical based handheld games before the advent of the Gameboy & the Atari Lynx gaming handhelds in 1989 & 1990 respectively.

The Japan based Black Racer handheld uses two "AA" batteries whereas with the American based Digital Derby variant handheld, it uses two "C" batteries instead for longer game-playing sessions -- a better and shrewd marketing decision from a business standpoint on Tomy's part (from a retrospective standpoint & looking through "rose colored" lenses/glasses nowadays). By accomodating the two larger "C" batteries layout/setup, Tomy had to go back to the drawing board and re-engineer what made the Black Racer handheld work successfully for the Digital Derby handheld variant release (which meant twice as much work from a mechanical engineer's viewpoint in Tomy producing two very different electro-mechanical racing games with both BR & DD even though they both play the same F1 game "through and through").

If Tomy had decided to sell the BR handheld in the USA with the same "AA" battery layout, the customer would have to spend more hard-earned money buying batteries just to play it properly in terms of "gameplay & overall battery life longevity issues" -- hence the business decision in going with "C" batteries with the DD variant handheld to address those pressing issues at hand. With today's rechargeable NiMH batteries, it's no problem powering up such retro electro-mechanical based games nowadays as the battery technology is so much better in terms of overall battery life longevity before it needs to be recharged again (after reaching a certain voltage cutoff point) as with the Eneloop NiMH batteries.

Of course, Tomy is known as TomyTakara nowadays ever since they did a business merger with business rival Takara -- they are responsible for the creating the current Transformers toy lineup (which can take a full two years' journey from initial pre-conceptual drawings to actual finished & packaged physical toy products ready to sell at retail worldwide).

Finally got the All-Region 2-Disc Blu-ray release of Gundam EQuuuuuuX anime series that recently wrapped up it's 12th & final episode back in June of 2025. Wow, it's presented in glorious 1080p format with 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio & 5.1 Dolby Surround sound format. How cool is that?

----------
Much better physical medium format to watch the GE anime series at your leisure and not via streaming is the way to go, especially nowadays, with the latest anime titles.

Today is a great day and I am very happy. I finally received my copies of Operation Night Strikers and Gradius Origin Collection. I pre-ordered both months ago because I LOVE pretty boxes like these. I hate collectors who suck at games or don't even play their shit in the first place. You can't play with them because they suck at every game, can't talk to them about strats or anything interesting because all they know is the price of something, all they do is making prices go up. But obviously I am not one of them. In a perfect world those kind of people should not even be allowed to buy games. I deserve these boxes because I am actually a big fan of these games and I always play seriously and try hard, just as Segata Sanshiro told me to.
So as I said, I pre-ordered both games months ago, but stupid UPS sent it to the wrong country. So I had to wait forever because they had to send it back to Japan, then the seller had to send it again, and today I finally received everything, and I am very happy to say everything arrived in perfect condition. I've been playing both games on Steam since the 7th of this month, but now I finally got the sexy boxes. I can finally rest assured knowing these pretty boxes are in my possession, and I will never part with them again. The artworks are incredibly beautiful. Everything that came with it, and the boxes themselves, are just so beautiful, I could cry. I am so relieved that the parcel has finally reached me. If it had gotten lost, it would have been possible to buy Operation Night Strikers again I believe, but the LE of the Gradius Origin Collection is sold out everywhere I was told by the seller.

This is actually a serious problem within our community, that has not been discussed sufficiently. I don't mean to criticize you personally, but I think those places (Limited Run Games, Strictly Limited Games, etc.) should be avoided as much as possible, because they only take advantage of something (the decrease in physical media) that should be normal in the first place, in order to benefit from the situation.
Of course there are also exceptions. Talking about Earthion for instance, I understand that there will be only one release of the Mega Drive version of the game, and that will be in the West through Limited Run Games, and Superdeluxe Games in Japan (which is basically LRG's Japanese arm). So in this case there would be no way around it, plus that is already the official release.
But I have noticed it online many times that people buy from those kind of publishers because it has become a habit for them and their go-to source, unaware of the fact that there is indeed a "normal" release of the game in question.

That's Shadow Tower. Yeah, the reflection off the box is quite something lmao.

My problem with LRG is that the moment somebody directs me to a preorder page from them my brain goes "This game is only available on LRG. Better preorder before it's too late", because that's what they used to be for I believe. I fell for this with the Castlevania Collections and now Gradius. Really have to get into my head to make sure to check Japanese releases separately from now on.

Yes, they seem to count on the people assuming "Why would they feature this release if there was an official one? Therefore, there must be no other physical release."

Strictly Limited Games have also done this countless times, many years ago already, for instance with all the Natsume games (Wild Guns Reloaded, The Ninja Warriors Once Again, Kiki Kaikai, Kage), VASARA Collection, Darius Collection, Taito Milestones, etc. (anybody please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).
