Cleared this morning "Varyznex" normal diff. It's a neat little game, on the easier side, very interesting to clear in scoring routes. Definitely gonna try the harder difficulty.

Oh, I’ve been wanting to try this one out. Looks very Thunderforce-like. And we can never have enough Thunderforce inspired games.

Try it out, it's cheap and it's easy, definitely designed for scoring purposes. I beat normal on like my 5th try.To Far Away Times wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 5:26 pmOh, I’ve been wanting to try this one out. Looks very Thunderforce-like. And we can never have enough Thunderforce inspired games.

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...

This was done in a month ago but I didn't upload on YT until recently.
Although I did 2-ALL the game way back in 2020, I didn't record the run and I took a revisit from the game 5 years after the clear but this time I'm using the P1 side, which has higher starting rank at the beginning of the game. Thus makes the latter half of the first loop is similar to the 2nd loop if you're on no death pace.
Great game and I would rank it on my 2nd favorite Gradius games, besides Gradius Gaiden.

Play something you care about instead. I don't think I've gotten a completely new 1CC in... two years, maybe? (E: Think there might have been one actually) But I've spent 500+ hours on games I've already cleared. No point in beating trivial things for the sake of it.

I’ll go through spells where I’m really into shmups and then sometimes I’ll go a year without playing them.
I found Edward’s 1CC blog to be very inspiring, and so right after I got my first couple of clears and started thinking about trying to clear that many games.
For me hitting 100 1CC’s was a big achievement, one I’d worked on for many years. 200 1CC’s was kinda underwhelming.
Now I’m more into clearing every game in a series that I really like.

There's always harder games and higher heights. When all else fails, bring down a titan and write an ST to establish your authoritah. Swing your dick all over the room and slam it down on the table, that'll snap a few demoralised buggers out of it.

What I like about STGs and other storied arcade staples is, you can always come back. The collective 70s~00s canon alone is a nice stable hardwood floor. All the big historic beasts will be there to grapple with whenever inspiration returns! Unless you get run over or get yourself shot, in which case you'll have bigger things to worry about.Starfighter wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 9:38 pmPerhaps it's time to seek out a new hobby? I just 1cc'd Super xyx (switch) last night, with Gauntlet/TLB using Cobra, it was slightly clutch as I took on too many forms of Black serpent with low fire power. I tried again a bit later to see if I could do any better, and i no miss 1cc'd/1Lc. Pretty damn stoked, tbh!

1cc'd Touhou Makuka Sai Part 1, normal difficulty. On the easier side of shmups, honestly. Hardest thing is the game is getting to understand the hitboxes on the last boss patterns.

I'm pretty please with the Razion EX Maniac clear I got last night. Been grinding away at this one for a couple weeks. After some failed earlier attempts, you can see my frustration throughout, but I managed to pull out the win regardless.

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...
Whew - this month I've stacked three 1CC/1-ALLs, having never accomplished one before. I've played many shmups and have gotten close (whether it's changing the settings to allow a couple more lives, or completing a run in just beyond one continue) - so I'm feeling pretty stoked this month to finally have accomplished a few on their true default arcade settings
- the 1CC high is a dang good one!
DoDonPachi: This was the first one - and my favorite of the bunch. This game is so tight - from the graphics to the feel, balance, bullet patterns - I enjoyed every run. I finished my run with no lives, no bomb stock left - by the skin of my teeth - and got that big ol' dopamine hit, hahah.
Mushihimesama Futari Black Label: Great game too - I had attempted it in the past, so it didn't take all too long to push for the clear. Again, just a dang fun game to play every run - the satisfaction of all the cancels, and a good amount of improvisation allowed in the patterns. And once again, beat the final boss with no lives, no bomb stock left.
DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu (Resurrection): This one was the third, and actually the toughest for me. Conversation around Cave games puts it as one of the "easier" games, but personally I did not find it that way. Sure, you have auto bombing - but I think that the design of the game has that in consideration and throws some tougher/denser patterns at you in comparison to their other games. This one took a bit more banging my head against it than the others. While all three games rewarded smart resource management, this one I really felt my improvement come when I became confident in tighter/small tap dodging. I will say that the laser wheels seem a little out-of-character cheap for a Cave game - in that the enemy bullets go through the wheel ships, but yours get blocked... That's where the difficulty of that section comes from for me. And ONCE AGAIN, beat the final boss with no lives, no bomb stock left. How long can I keep that trend going?
I'm thinking of just seeing how many Cave games I can 1CC this year. In the past I've gotten close to Ketsui and Mushihimesama. I'll probably try ESP Ra.De next, as I was dabbling in it before DFK - so it's still fresh in my reflexes.

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...
Finally got a "new" clear for the first time in two years or so: Zero Wing 1P. I already cleared this game, but I used the warp previously. Not this time. I didn't practice at all and haven't played this game for some time, so I am kind of amazed that it happened. One of the M2 gadgets for this game flickers, so it left some image retention on my monitor. It is almost gone already and will completely go away shortly, but from now on I'm not using the gadgets for this game. Never needed them anyway. Now to finally do Hellfire... later. Not now.

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...
Got a quick clear on Mystical Power Plant (a Touhou fan game) this evening.
This one's a bit easier than the official Touhou games. Once you get a feel for the patterns they're pretty easy to nail every time (barring one or two exceptions).
I had a magical run where I was maxed out on lives going into the final boss. But since the game runs on the Danmakufu engine, things can act kinda weird at times. The final boss took a look at my life count and just decided not to show up. So I played around in an empty stage for a bit before quitting and trying again.
I gave it another shot on a fresh credit and had a dumb death or two, and the final boss was willing to make an appearance this time.
Player characters are wildly imbalanced in this. Raymoo B was noticeably stronger than the others. I though it was okay when I first started playing it, but it definitely grew on me a bit. Still not up to the level of the really great Touhou fan games like Blue Devil in the Belvedere, Yokai Kori Kassen, or Concealed the Conclusion.

Two more CAVE 1CC clears...
Mushihimesama 1.5 - This one was fun, but not as rewarding as others, as the difficulty seems pretty toned down from the original arcade version. But I do enjoy the pace of it, as the original Mushihimesama always kinda annoyed me with some of its quick bullet patterns. I've been dabbling in Maniac mode of 1.5, making some progress in that. Might try to accomplish a 1CC for that version. I'll return to original someday - kinda want it under my belt
Deathsmiles - This one came in the mail yesterday (Xbox 360) and I was able to accomplish the clear this morning - probably took under 15 runs total, hah. Definitely the easiest so far! But it's a great game - once you get past the lolis (not my jam
), it's really funky and cool in its art and themes. This is one I'll probably return to play just for fun and different routes every now and again - since its aesthetics and gameplay are great.
I have Esp.Ra.De down to 2 credits, but I'm taking a break from it... It's a cool game but I get a bit annoyed by it... Some of the hitbox/bullet combinations just always catch me, and in that way it doesn't feel as solid as some of the other games so far. It's still great, but I'm not sure I'll push too hard for it.

Just did my Andro Dunos 2 Arcade 1CC. Not super hard per se, but what a chore, you fail mostly due to boredom and get clipped at random spots along the way. 40 minutes to get to the end, glad it's over. Not a bad game, but slooow and sterile.

Yeah, it's a pretty legit game mode if you play it for score, as it has the most complex scoring out of all three modes, which might as well be three different games. The scoring is really odd, though, and my no miss ended up being 500,000 points lower than when I game overed at the boss. I have no idea what is up with that, but I didn't bother to hold the start button the whole time, so that's probably a big reason.
I've been thinking about playing the training course for score, but I'm not sure about it yet. What it did do is to make me realize how complex and interesting a scoring system in a Hishouzame-type game can be, although I really don't like the deteriorating medals thing. That's probably the main reason that I am not sure about playing it for score.

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...
You don't need to worry about the medals/start button guts bonus if you just want to "loop" in training mode, since the loop requirements are mainly no miss no bomb, uncovering the golden radars & 99%+ enemy destruction rate.
Even just getting all the golden radars will bump up your score considerably.

DOJ Black Label!
Such an important clear for me. I feel like I can still do anything I put my mind to, not too old yet!
I had a couple of mediocre runs earlier today and felt kind of defeated. I realized I had time for one more credit before having to take care of today's chores. I was tired of the music (it also stresses me out) so I muted the TV and put on the old (for me very nostalgic) compilation CD "Cheap Shots 2", fired up the console and pressed start. Off to a bad start I failed to chain S1 and only got one hyper from the boss, but I didn't have time to reset. I hit 23 million on S2 and got through it no problem. Time was ticking down. I one-lifed S3 using only one bomb, I figured I might as well play risky because this was just a quick last practice run. I knew this wasn't the run so I didn't care about playing neat and controlled, I didn't care about chaining or anything like that. I just sang along with the music, tapped to the rythm on the buttons and looked at the clock between enemy waves. Only minutes left, would I even have time to reach S5? Oh well, who cares. Let's just have some fun and then get started with dinner. This isn't the run and I definitely won't save the gameplay. To hell with it.
1CC with several bombs left. My heartrate didn't even increase. Wth? My hands were shaking when I let go of the arcade stick though, I think they started doing that after I cleared it.
