Bob Saget was trending, a usual sign someone just died. Yet since I knew he was dead, for a moment, a very brief moment, I considered the possibility that he was re-alived somehow.

I don't know how someone could be turned off and on like a light switch with current technology, but it says a lot about our current age I gave it two seconds of consideration.

Of course it was just a death anniversary thing. Something I haven't seen the hivemind do for anyone else up until now. I guess it's good people still remember him..

That was only a couple years ago now, but it feels like a lot longer for some reason. I remember when he died thinking how awful it was. I had a friend who died in a very similar way. He was approaching the entrance to a bar and tripped over a piece of metal sticking out of the ground and whacked his head a bit on the edge of a step. It's kind of hard to describe exactly, but this was in the East Village area of NY, so it's like all these old brownstone buildings and there's parts of old iron fences and railings that are just sticking out of the ground, and many of the stores on the first level of the building and there's steps to go down to them. That's where it happened.

Anyway, he just whacked his head and got up and was like "I'm fine, whatever" and went about his evening and then went over to his GFs house and crashed on the couch and he never woke up. He just died in his sleep from the concussion or whatever it is that goes on. It was so fucked up, he was about 33-34 at the time. I had just seen him a few days prior.

Tony Slattery - a regular on Whose Line is it Anyway? back in the 90s, alongside Josie Lawrence, John Sessions, Ryan Stiles, and other masters of improv. Not sure what he did after that, but I fondly remember his loose cannon antics on that show.

He had a breakdown, went hard on substance abuse and eventually was diagnosed as bipolar which seemed to limit what he was able to do - he's been quite up-front about it since, which hopefully helps anyone who's going/gone through similar more recently (where we're, hopefully, a bit more accepting of mental health). This article from a few years back is nice read:

4000 GBP a week! JHC that's a lot of cocaine. I had a buddy who was doing a large amount for awhile, and it really turned him into a zombie. When he wasn't high, it was like talking to someone on lithium or something like that; practically unresponsive. And then things kind of got a little better before his heart finally gave out in early 2018.

Ah, fuck. Shadow's lyrics were already haunting enough. Image Went out on a high note with The Return, at least. Image
“There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, ‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.'”

The last Lynch film I watched was Mulholland Drive. They did a screening at my local theater a couple years ago. Lynch films really walk the line between the mystical and the psychological so well, like nothing else at all. After everything is said and done, the Winkie's Diner scenes stand out to me more than anything. It kind of embodied a little microcosm of LA, but also the dimensions of Lynch's filmmaking.

This one hurts. I kept on thinking/hoping he had one more movie in him after Twin Peaks the Return.

RIP to a fucking legend. Hollywood burned down and took one of its shining stars with it.

Sad to hear that David Lynch passed away today at age 78. I remember when the 1984 theatrical version of Dune was playing on the silver screen, it had the "long intro version" which made for a longer overall alloted running time -- eventually, it was replaced with an all-new "shorter intro version."

I'd see a lone DVD copy of Eraserhead available for rent at the local Blockbuster Video joint as it was placed in the "Cult Movies" section indeed.

BIL, you crack me up with your hilarious gif clips -- please keep 'em coming.
