Why not bump while the ACA port is still semi fresh in peoples' minds?

Shitty scrub score for now, but I hope to at least squeeze out a 1all. The rank by the end of the loop in 1-6 is quite insane. Feels like nothing dies and I can't quite get the shot autofire into a comfortable spot (I had this problem with Macross II as well).

Capital idea ING-san. A not insignificant score, either. Loop 2's early stages are much harder than Loop 1's, but their stages 6+7 aren't too far apart.

Spoiler

(PS4 ACA version; Autofire on, ACA HUD off)

Gave the first loop a spin just now, after mostly playing the ACA Loop 2 Start. Will be back before too long. Damn run didn't record! Maybe the PS4's HDD was as chilly as my hands in this quaintly under-heated cottage. Things learned this time: shooting Milia down in stage 4 isn't worth any points. Killing her in stage 5 is worth quite a bit! (500k, and a 1UP ofc)

Mercifully, enemy durability seems static. Starting on either Loop, the green Zentran mechs can be similarly felled by focused autofire. (the Loop's complication of Revenge Bullets aside! AFAIK, the rare Boddole Backshot Buddies debuted in stage 2 are the only Loop mechs to lack revengers; as well as hitboxes, during their hapless sneaky approach)

Surest solution for mechs in both Loops is a focused rocket barrage. I guess they started as they meant to go on with the "flying tank" aesthetic. These are no zaku, boy! You have to treat them like the big chunky bastards Toaplan/Seibu send rumbling downscreen occasionally. Just in big fuckoff waves, a couple spots. Image Will leave it here for now, as this is getting into GD territory, and I'm already second-guessing myself.

ACA gives an 8.5hz autofire option, which seems very useful for zako waves, especially in Fighter mode. I've gone with [manual] [8.5] [15/20] and [30hz] buttons. Not sure if 15 or 20hz is better, but since Armor's onscreen shot limit is dangerously low, I like tapping manually during zako-heavy sections. When mechs are around, I tap to chip 'em + suppress zako, then let rip with the 30hz rockets once I've lined up.

Glad you agree!

Finally made it to the great Zentradi buttfuck. Alas, I did not survive. So close to 3 million, too! I think this score is almost entirely down to uncovering a few hitherto-unknown tuna heads in stages 4 and 5(?) or so. I'm sure I'll find them again! That final dogpile feels like it was made explicitly to deplete you of your remaining bombs and lives - all just so Bolg Zoddodo doesn't have to die in embarrassment in front of a flashing Minmay concert screaming "PROTOCULTURE!"

This is good to know! I won't waste any resources on her first appearance, more than I have to. So far I always seem to die or get hit during the stage 5 boss, where I lose all room to maneuver. This leaves me pretty weak for the next stage where the chain bombs/deaths start piling up. I guess I need a savestate to figure out that big fucker and his chiclet lasso in an effective way. That 1up from Milia is precious for sure; I usually use 2 bombs just to make sure i have some cushion for what's ahead.

Thanks for some suggestions for autofire. I have four shot buttons now, and although that is a little hard to juggle on the controller, some of them are definitely a better fit than my previous setup. Getting good auto for the Armor during the boss fights (especially 1-5) still seems a little tricky, but I'll take the extra help.

Here we go! I managed the 1all last night, and despite going into the loop blind (having never played it), I somehow made it all the way to 2-5, at the boss. Had I not been surprised by a few nasty tricks (and timed bombs better), I am confident I would have made it to 2-6.

Macross I
EmperorIng - 5,474,400 - 12 - 2P

Image

First 1cc of the new year :D

The second loop is honestly not that much different from the first. The 2-1 boss has a new attack from its central laser cannon (meaning you cannot sit in the middle and attack as I learned the hard way), and enemies fire more quickly. And large Zentradi mechs now fire revenge bullets on death (as BIL pointed out). The meanest change is that Milia's midboss fight doesn't drop an extend in the second loop, depriving you of some much-needed resources. In fact it seems that you no longer earn extends in loop 2. So you have to play the final stage of loop 1 even more carefully in order to give yourself a better chance in the second loop. Crazily, if you watch the highest-scoring replay, the Japanese player kills himself twice at the start, presumably to start grabbing 5,000 point bonus P items sooner. Yikes.

Given the lack of huge changes, a 2all should be doable if you have a really strong route for 1-6/1-7 and 2-6/2-7.

Splendid advance! I'm raring to get back to this next week. Yeah, I think you're right about the loop's disabling of extends; a Loop 2 start will provide none whatsoever.

Was mulling over a basic GD thread, but it's quite a simple game (attractively so for the most part imo), and I suspect that replay's quite sufficient guidance. Might write some notes for posterity later on. Damn good video find btw, there's an instant sub!

Thanks man!
There is some more help from Square_Air, since he posted some info that I didn't know about in the previous thread, when he got his 7 million score (no 2all, sadly). It contains some stuff I didn't know, like 4 Minmays = 1up spawn. Another reason to keep on uncovering them. I wonder if that works in loop 2...

Good man on revealing all the Minmay and Tuna locations, I was trying hard to find that stage 3 Minmay but could never suss it out.

Now I can fully share in Square's pain!!!

Macross I
EmperorIng - 7,154,400 - 14 - 2P

Look at this! So close, but I just didn't have enough bombs to safely get through the final stage. I was just going to do a practice credit tonight, and it turned out to be much better than expected!

Some notes:
-1 miss in loop 1, on 1-7
-I no-bombed up to about 1-5 or 1-6
-I would lose my armor when another was on screen to get extra 10,000 bomb bonuses
-I still can't for the life of me figure out where that stage 1-3 minmay is!
-The stage 1-5/2-5 boss was milked moderately. A full milk is worth 200,000 points per fight!
-I missed a few tuna and minmay medals, unfortunately. Especially in loop 2 when things were getting too hectic.

Overall, I am so close, I think I can get that 2all hopefully soon.

Image

A new ACA replay has popped up here, 8+ million. Nice watch!

A most cultured score. Image Holy fuck that was close! Bring in just one bomb and you can speedkill the bastard. I'm sure you'll get the 2ALL, after some of the ordeals you've got under your belt.

I can't remember seeing a stage 3 Minmay Doll, myself. Actually I'd given up on it, having found them in all the other stages. Taking a look at Square_Air's notes, I see why I was missing it; I'm always hunkered down at 6'clock in that bit. Clever!
