Well, if you think ED's bad Limbrooke, check out Darxide, The Ooze (Japanese) and Vamipre Killer (Japanese).
Oh, I'm well aware of that. But then there's Snow Bros., Batman Forever (NTSC-J), Maximum Carnage (NTSC-J), and pretty much any other Acclaim title released in Japan. The Coop wrote:Oh. My bad.

Granted, if I ever saw a copy of Eliminate Down for $150, I'd probably buy it without delay.

It's a sad day when $150 is considered a good deal for a game. On a side note, my post was supposed to be directed at Lawfer, but in a brief bout of stupidity, I accidentally put your name Limbrooke. See what happens when you get up early for Christmas?

Yeah. The Sega Genesis Collection for the PS2 and PSP. Although, I can speak from personal experience that the emulation for the PS2 version is not nearly as accurate as so many reviews make it seem for a number of the games (especially the Sonic games and the arcade version of Altered Beast).Neon wrote:damn, I always wanted snow bros for genesis at some point...is there a cheaper us release?

I saw Vampirer Killer at 40 bucks in Japan, but as usual the guy won't ship outside Japan, I could have gotten it (You talking about Vampire Killer on MD, right?) but since I am not looking for it I didn't.The Coop wrote:Oh. Well the Acclaim ones aren't as enjoyable or good due to being expensive no.Fighter17 wrote:And the majority of rare games suck for a reason.
Wow, Snow Bros. is in that collection? I'm really surprised at that. Is it an unlockable or playable from the start? The Coop wrote:Yeah. The Sega Genesis Collection for the PS2 and PSP. Shit. My bad (a-fucking-gain). I confused Snow Bros. with Bonanza Bros. Can I blame this on getting up early too, or do I need a new excuse?Limbrooke wrote:Wow, Snow Bros. is in that collection? Re: Eliminate Down
Hello all,
I have been meaning to play E-D for years but hadn't gotten around to it. All that changed a couple of weeks ago.
It really does hold up well. Nothing new or novel, but it is well constructed and fun to play.
I am going to put some time and focus into completing it.

Good bump. This game should probably be talked about in the same way as Mars Matrix. Goati is absolutely correct about this. Go play Eliminate Down.

Re: Eliminate Down
One of those games where I like what it’s doing, but I can never stick with it.
The opening stage is pretty impressive with the changing backgrounds, the diagonal section and the eclipse. I can’t really tell if the music is good or bad. It kinda sounds like ass but it’s memorable. The player shot that looks like the letter “Z” is pretty goofy too.
Eliminate Down has a bit of “we have Thunderforce at home” going on but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

I think that they kind of asked themselves what was kind of cool and a good idea in a Shmup and just threw it inTo Far Away Times wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 5:43 am One of those games where I like what it’s doing, but I can never stick with it.

There's some really nice pixel work and design in it.
Music wise, well, a lot of this rests on if someone likes "that Megadrive sound" or not and the FM thing in general.
Personally, I think that the music is on the whole decent. We aren't talking TF4 level of decent of course, but there aren't many titles on the MD like TF4
I agree: odd choice of weapon to have that "Z" thing What were they thinking? Should have taken a leaf out of one of my faves : GunHed on the PCE - love the weapons in that.
Looking back, the MD really does have some decent Shmups on the whole, I find at least.

Anyone got the Retro Bit reprint of this? I was thinking about getting one, since the original is so sky high expensive.

Yes, I ordered one through Castlemania Games (when they still had some copies in stock earlier this year). They delivered it as promised. Still brand new and unopened. The highlight is the cool 3-D lenticular-based front cover of Eliminate Down nevertheless.

Grabbed a copy during the pre-order phase. I'd have preferred a different color for the cartridge (its green with sparkles in it), but I'll make do. Get it if you can.evil_ash_xero wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 1:45 am Anyone got the Retro Bit reprint of this? I was thinking about getting one, since the original is so sky high expensive.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I'm not nuts about the green cart, but I can live with it.

After picking up a secondhand copy of Mega Man: The Wily Wars from Retro-Bit I've decided I'm definitely a fan. Their sets are really nice and well-made.
