gscartsw Issue

Post by OnlyBrian »

Having some issues with my gscartsw.

https://youtu.be/mFTtDCc4sBE

Image appears unstable and wobbly, but intermittently appears fine. It's like this for all ports, and all of my consoles. Noticed some minor discoloration on the Fuse (F1), but testing with a probe showed it was fine. Will replace it when I get the parts in. No resistance with ohms, and full continuity.

My guess is a bad capacitor for sync, but where would that be?

Anybody else experience anything like this?

Are you absolutely, positively sure all your SCART plugs are plugged in all the way? In my experience, even the slightest pop-off is enough to cause trouble. I use an RGB2COMP as well so that's another place I have to remember to check.

Yep, first thing I made sure of! Had that happen in the past and thought the same thing. But strangely, even when there is no signal, the image is unstable, leading me to believe its the switch itself.

Does the problem occur when the consoles are not connected to the switch, using the same SCART cable?

Try toggling the DIP switches on the gscartsw one by one to see if any of them make a difference.

Strange thing just happened. I left it plugged in to power, and is now behaving as expected. I have not touched it since. None of the dip switches were moved. None of the cables were touched. It somehow appears to be working fine, after I already ordered the parts from digikey. Could me leaving it in have charged the caps enough with a partially blown fuse, then function normally as if nothing happened? Do electronics work like that?

Now I'm really confused.

But to answer your question, I have two different scart cables (male to male) and both of them did this before it started magically working.

Minor update:
Ordered a new Power adapter to test if that was the case. (Triad WSU090-0800)
Nothing, power LED flickers, but nothing happens after flipping the switches all around.
Replacing the Fuse tonight and will update again w/ pics if that fixes it.
