Best Oled Tv for Retro Tink 5x?
After losing my 55 inch Pansonic LCD I am shopping for new TV. This time I want to jump on thte Oled train. Since the LG oleds have a very good reputation they would be my first pick. I remembered seeing a old video from the guys from life in gaming though that one of the LG oleds ( I believe it was the c2 series) have some serious flaws in Retro gaming.
Are the following generations c3 and c4 are also plagued with that issues or were the problems resvolved?
If so would you consider the c3 or the c4 as good partner for the Retro Tink 5x?
Or would you recommend a different brand?

You can't go wrong with LG OLEDs.
The C2 has improved a lot since that video. I own a 65" C2 OLED myself, and the biggest flaw is that 4:3 adds a frame of lag. This is also true of newer models, but using an upscaler will solve this.
They also nerfed the BFI function compared to the C1. A lot of people really liked the old BFI, but I didn't as the lag was too high, I much prefer a slight blur to that. Your priorities might be different than mine though
If BFI is of any importance the Pixel FX Morph or the RT4K should be able to do a decent job with much lower lag.

I see that`s great too hear that things have improved sine the release of the video. In that case there are no things to worry about then.Konsolkongen wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 1:09 pm You can't go wrong with LG OLEDs.

My experience with an LG C3 is the same as above. Rtings.com say 4:3 has added lag, but I'm also using a Retrotink 5X and this isn't an issue as I always use the tink's 16:9 resolutions. I also don't use BFI, so that's not an issue for me either. Otherwise, everything I've tried (Famicom, Super Famicom, PC Engine, PS1, Saturn, PS2) works just as well as it does with my C1 panel.

LG works at 1440p to my knowledge. Which is 6x 240p, 4x480p, 2x 720p.
Cant go wrong. LG is the way. I have C9.

That is very good to know. I have alwas been curious to try out the 1440p mode but my old TV never supported it. Great stuff the LG makes it possible.neorichieb1971 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 3:06 pm LG works at 1440p to my knowledge. Which is 6x 240p, 4x480p, 2x 720p.

I will get my LG Oled as fast as possible.
@StrzxgvNuvWvfld Thanks for the info. the 4:3 lag could be a little problem. I prefer using my Mega, Drive, Ps1, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Ps2 with the original aspect Ratio. But I will see if I can find some solutions for the problem or maybe the lag might not be that much of deal breaker for me.

Re: Best Oled Tv for Retro Tink 5x?
Sorry, I probably didn't explain that very clearly! I also use them in 4:3 (I would never stretch a 4:3 image to 16:9!), but my Retrotink 5x handles that, not the TV. So The Retrotink is outputting 16:9 in 1080p or 1440p (1440p is my preference), and it shows the console output in 4:3 within the 16:9 image, leaving black bars on either side. The TV is getting the 16:9 signal it needs for minimum lag, but I still see a 4:3 image on screen. It's the same as if you play a retro compilation on the PS5 or whatever, you don't have to change your TV to 4:3 to see the correct aspect ratio.Revolver Ocelot wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 6:18 amThat is very good to know. I think the problem Try from MLiG had was that he has some consoles modded for HDMI, so he needed to 4:3 for those (although presumably now he has a Retrotink 4K, it could handle that for him better than his TV would anyway)

Yeah, LG strays from the HDMI standards of supporting only 480i,480p,720p,1080i,1080p and 4k. Where as Sony adheres strictly to it, so on a lot of TV's 1440p comes up as "Signal not supported".Revolver Ocelot wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 6:18 amThat is very good to know. I am only going by recollection, but apparently the OSSC 960p is supported by LG as well. These were the reasons I bought an LG. Its done me alright so far, bought it in 2019-20 and its done me alright. I used to be Sony only, but time around I decided against it. Strangely though, I still haven't bought an upscaler. Everytime I want to, about 10 games comes out I want or something on ebay crops up that I wanted a long time.
I have noticed using my HDMI cable on Dreamcast, which I prefer 4:3, it does feel laggy. I never realised it was a problem until now. Thanks.

Re: Best Oled Tv for Retro Tink 5x?
The C9 supports 2560x1440, but not 1920x1440. The CX and above started accepting 1920x1440. It was a real bummer and had me almost upgrading my OLED early just to get that mode on MiSTer, Ultrahdmi, and Retrotink 5x. The 5x eventually received 2560x1440 support, but it's experimental and it is rather temperamental. I hear some unlucky units can't even run that resolution without crashing. Thankfully any benefit to that mode was rendered moot with the Retrotink 4k. My C9 is still going strong and there has yet to be any real appeal to upgrading.neorichieb1971 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 3:06 pm LG works at 1440p to my knowledge. Which is 6x 240p, 4x480p, 2x 720p.

Get yourself an LG OLED, OP. Make sure you get a 5 year warranty with good terms that also warranty burn in. They are otherwise great TV's for retro gaming. The results are stunning with a Retrotink 4k. Still pretty darn good with the 5x as well.

Thanks for the further info I will do that. I will get a C3 in the next couple of days. I found a nice deal at a local electronics store that is worth taking.Gara wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 8:08 pmneorichieb1971 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 3:06 pm LG works at 1440p to my knowledge.
