MiSTer to Sony HD CRT in 540p like with retrotink 5x ??

Post by deezdrama »

So ive noticed some buzz about the custom 540p modeline added to the retrotink 5x by mike chi and how HD passthrough can be activated to allow low lag 1080i/540p input on Sony HD CRT's.
So Ive been waiting to see if anyone tested this on mister fpga but havnt seen much.

You should be able to set a custom 540p modeline in mister ini and with scandoubler and the 50% or 75% crt fx scanline filter im thinking it should look pretty good with low lag. The 480p game window could be stretched to fit the 540p resolution canvas in service menu.

Anyone here tried this?
Any reasons this wouldnt work as good on mister as it does with retrotink 5x?

I have the chance to pick up a 32" hs500 sony hd crt for pretty cheap, I just dont want to go through the trouble if this wont work out.
I also think it would be cool to be able to run a roku device via a converter and to be able to watch movies on this.

Any thoughts/ suggestions :?:

Dont see why not, but 99% chance you will have to transcode to component to get it to work. The HD Sony's dont like 540p via HDMI. Your ROKU should be able to plug in the HDMI and work fine without a converter.

Mister can output YPbPr no issues and have a vga to component cable. The mister can output alot of different signal and sync types through its hdmi and vga/db15 ports

Did this months ago. My sony 34xbr960 could only see this over component. So I had to make custom hdmi modeline. Then use hdmi to component adapter and it works. Due to the modeline you have to play with the aspect ratio. In the end i found it much better and easier to just use an SD crt.

I guess it's a good option if this if is all you have or a Pc core. Image

Would you be able to share that modeline if possible?

I have it , use it on my HD CRTs. I'll have to power it up and see what it was.

This would be super helpful as I can't seem to use a modeline calculator to save my life. My set is a KV-34XBR910 which has Super Fine Pitch 1440×1080i. Maybe that's why other modelines users have posted don't work for me? There were only 7 16:9 models made with Super Fine Pitch.

My set is at my dad's in the middle of nowhere (with spotty internet) so testing it is a real hassle.
