N64 rgb tim mod issue

Post by VEGETA »

Hello,

I did the N64 RGB mod using Tim's latest board, i had a problem with small ribbon cable (small pitch japanese pikachu edition) and eventually soldered wires directly to DAC and GPU pins... it worked. however i lost composite video signal due to ruining some dac input pins despite never affecting rgb output.

today i got N64 everdrive X7 and when i turned a game on it started to show wavy broken graphics as seen here: https://imgur.com/a/GLZ6Mdj

i verified ALL signals to be perfectly fine... all reaching from mod board to gpu pins (continuity check) and to av port. I tried my setup with other consoles and no problem, cable is rgb scart which is new from RGC and worked before.

from experience, this is sync issue but everything should be ok since all connections are verified. i got csync cable which is the correct choice which matches the cable.

Note: I noticed it goes really well when starting fresh but a minute later it shows the problem.

what do you suggest I do?

could it be that a cap or so broken in rgb mod board?

for your urgent input and help please.

thanks

I had a similar issue with my Tim RGB Mod as well

That ribbon cable is so hard to work with

I realized I had damaged the board somehow and just tossed sadly

I sent it to a modder with more experience and spare parts, the board area is bad but maybe all he need to do is replace the dac. he suggested replacing the board with one that is ntsc-j standard one.

people claim the boards are exactly the same, what do you think?

Sorry for the late reply back

I have a few Japanese N64 units and they are the same

However there are different board revisions for the N64

If your looking to put a different motherboard in that LE case you most likely could I believe

Not completely sure but there are motherboard pics out there as well

When I did the RGB mod basic and Tim's I found the images online
