Freakers Highscore Webapp

Post by RDK »

Hi there

After some development time we have finished our webapp so far that we would like to make it available to others.
The webapp is for uploading highscores with foto or video evidence and to challenge his gaming friends. It‘s mainly for Arcade games but we‘ll add other platforms later.

Lately we haven‘t noticed any bugs, but of course we‘re grateful for any reported problems so we can fix them if possible. Suggestions for improvement or any ideas are of course welcome.

If you have any other game you would like to see, please let me know. Please choose standard settings and not all available options for each game, otherwise it will be too hard to find enough people who really want to play actively.

Emulators are not allowed, but the common multiboards are.

The URL is: https://hs.freakers.ch

Would be fun if you join and to see your amazing scores on freakers.

Welcome to the forum, RDK!

The top score interface with countries and thumbnails looks pretty neat. :!: Congrats on the app!

There is defintely a need for a flexible, user-friendly, and widely endorsed leaderboard app, but there are a lot of arguments about how such leaderboard should be managed, and probably it would need to be a synchronized community effort (which is probably why it hasn't happened yet). For instance, should top scores go through some verification process and how rigorous should that process be? This forum has gone through a couple of controversies, even including replays taken from XBOX leaderboards (for example this thread following this suspicious replay--although it is maybe not the kind of thread you recommend new members to read? ). So it's not an easy task to design an app that would satisfy a big part of the community I believe.

The best dynamic leaderboard currently is https://www.restartsyndrome.com/

Other than excluding mame-scores, what are the things that separate your app from RS? And what is your ambition with it?

What probably would be needed is a verification system that is endorsed by the community, and a user-friendly app that easily filters players, developers, versions of games, ships, auto-fire, level of verification (replay, photo, committee-verified) and maybe less important features like countries, regions, years.

Hi DMC,

Thank you for your valuable feedback and ideas! Regarding the discussion on suspicious replays, it's indeed a complex topic :)

Our goal is to keep the website as simple as possible. While we considered including MAME scores, we aim to avoid empty tables and ensure a fair comparison between high scores. We won't create tables for each version and settings of a game. However, signed-in users can request new games or platforms, and we'll add them to the site. So if users want t compete in MAME versions they can do that. As the website is relatively new, with limited users, currently, scores are uploaded only for Arcade and Game Boy, with default settings for each game.

Implementing a level of verification is a good idea, and I plan to do that soon!
Comparing hs.freakers.ch to restartsyndrome.com, our site may appear fresher, but RS is notably larger with more features. We're actively seeking more users to join our battles. Our site offers the advantage of getting easier to the first rank due to the smaller community. However, we understand players may prefer not to store scores on multiple sites, but would be happy if more people would compete on our site.

Initially, I developed the site for personal use and with friends in mind. As more users joined and enjoyed showcasing their scores online, we've thought about expanding the community.

Would be fun if some people would join https://hs.freakers.ch

Happy scoring! RDK
