Sloppy clear of a sloppy game. I'm going to venture a guess and say that the audio issues (no music during boss fights/the track of the stage is still playing) are attributable to MAME, but what about the massive flicker during the fifth boss fight? Is it supposed to be this severe?
I only figured out after the clear that those green orbs are actually shields of sorts, they seemed to be useless and would cause the weapons to glow once in a while, causing a bit of a delay in the autofire, so I tried to avoid them.
Interesting concept for sure, and I'm sure it had the potential to be a great game, but it's desperately lacking polish. First stage looks like one of the final stages of the original Darius, it feels like you're just being tossed into the game, missing the first half or so. They reused some of the backgrounds for Darius Force later, and the green rings from the bosses would make another appearance in Darius Twin. Fascinating how such an obscure game would have some influence for later games (especially Aldynes)! And I genuinely like some of the music although the Ode to Joy during the ending comes out of nowhere.

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to kill him, you have to time him out. If you start in the lower left corner his ludicrous pattern will completely miss (there's at least one more safespot on the upper end of the purple flames in the background, you have to be slightly above the main cannon for it to work, but I would recommend just sitting in the lower left since you can't mess that up). Once the onslaught has finished you move all the way to the upper border of the screen so that the missiles will go off-screen. Move a good amount to the right in order to avoid the absurdly huge hitbox of the rear thruster, then bring yourself in position to scurry under the foot. That thing also has a massive reach, but once you get into the rhythm, it's not so bad. Move to the lower left corner, rinse and repeat. The boss will time out after about two minutes.
