Sega Arcade Power Stick / Megacom controller

Post by Guibao »

Hello all!

Glad to be here!

This is the thread that brought me here.

I have recently purchased a used Megacom controller, which is a clone of the Sega Arcade Stick, the version with switches. When I disassembled it to replace the original switches, I didn´t pay the proper attention and the spring exploded, throwing away the shaft parts and some broken washer along.

Can anyone please tell me what is the sequence to reassemble it in the right order? I tried it a few times, but the controller skips some movements when playing games.

There's some internal pics in this thread:

If you still can't figure it out, I can maybe try opening my switched MD version, but it's packed away somewhere. I have a Genesis version that I use for an external padhack, but it's obviously not going to have the switches.

Hey JD, thanks for your reply.

The thread you pointed out is the one I mention in the beginning of my post. There´s not enough information to help reassemble the stick.

I would really appreciate if you could take your time and find your switched controller.

Ahh, totally missed that you linked to that thread already.

OK, it's packed up in a box but it shouldn't take me too long to find it. Will post back hopefully sometime in the next few days.

OK, found mine and took a couple pics, but sorry to say they don't show anything not in the linked thread since I haven't taken out the switches, was afraid of mine breaking as well:

Were you able to get the e-ring back on? I is the problem with yours the washers under the switches?

Hi JD, thanks for doing that!

Yes, removing the e-ring and putting it back on is not a problem. It has an exact thread on the shaft where it fits.
To remove, push it a little on the open side and then use a flat driver on one of the holes on the other side to pry it off.

I did not break the washer while disassembling, it was already broken.
The broken washer was replaced with the white one you see in the 3rd picture.
Yup, I need to know the order the washers go around the shaft, including the spring.

Please take a close look at the first picture. The blue line touches the bottom washer.
The red line touches the spring, and the yellow line touches the ´cup washer´.
The white washer is inside the ´cup washer´, pressing the spring harder.

You actually don´t need to remove the e-ring.
Removing the switches and putting them aside is easy and will make room to take a picture.
I guess that should be enough to learn.
