Virtua Fighter 4 Evo

Post by BUHA »

I just got this game at Best Buy for my PS2 for 10 bucks, which I thought was a great deal. One of those "greatest hits" things.

Just a question: Is the special "10th anniversary edition" any different from the regular mode, other than the old school models and backgrounds? As far as I can tell, the game plays exactly the same, and has the counters and everything, just it looks like VF1. Can anyone clear this up for me? I couldn't find any info in the manual.

And i see what you guys say about the PS2 pad kind of sucking for fighters. A lot of the circle motions are a pain to do. I'm too cheap to buy a new pad or an arcade stick or anything, though.

Thanks for the help!

it's got most of the same stuff, but certain things like ground recovery are missing.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.

Um, quick dodges and anything else dealing with sideways movement aren't available.

Just wait. Final Tuned has got to come out sometime. Amazing how this franchise just doesn't catch on in America... I assume b/c there are no bouncing tits. The engine is so much more advanced than it's closest competitor. It has born great things in the world... including my handle. :)

Isn't Kage supposed to beast in FT? That's what I remember from months ago. Or has there been a counter to his dominance?

Oh, there are bouncing tits, it's just that these ones have the realistic bouncing rather than the jumping all over the place we get with games like DOA.

Anyway, VF4 : Evo is the Street Fighter II of this generation, 'nuff said. 8)

Not sure, but I've seen a combo of his that does 160 damage. . . . I know; that's TOO MUCH.

Yeah, it's been in Japan arcades for half a year I think. . . Probably more. . .

http://www.virtuafighter.jp/vf4ft/

There are new items that you can get for your character in it, I hope it comes state-side soon.

I heard that SEGA actually tuned Final Tuned with some bug fixes, though it still kept the name Final Tuned.

There are different versions for just about every VF. A-C for VF4, A & B for Evo, and they're now up to B for FT. FT Ver. B came out pretty quickly after A if I'm not mistaken.

FT has a lot of new features like being able to swap out a combos, new items, old moves taken out of previous VFs, and of cousre, new moves.

As for who's the strongest: Kage was dumbed down in FT I think. He was strong, but 160 damage in one combo he couldn't do (unless someone screwed up). Only Wolf could do that much, and only if there's a wall, and the opponent hits it just right and he got the backwards throw in. Anyways, you can talk all you want about the "strongest" character but for the most part it's in the player. Jacky is by far the most n00b friendly, but he's got his weaknesses.

You guys realize I was more passionate about this game at one point than most people here are about shmups. I'd go drop $10 a day easily on the way home from work. Sometimes $20-$30. Oh, to be single again. :)

If you're interested in high level play videos, go to www.virtuafighter.com and look in the media section. They've got links.

Thanks to his parries I'm sure. Anyway, in one of the early FT tourneys (it could've been an early ver. B tourney, I can't remember), a majority of the finalists were using Kage, which was a very strange occurrence. I remembered hearing on SRK about how Kage was dominating the VF4FT scene at the time. Given that I can't play VF worth crap, I didn't get the specifics.

VF has always been regarded as extremely balanced. Even in VF2 when Lion was supposedly the best character on paper, the results were pretty even. That's why such a result with 1 character dominating made an impression in my mind.

Ha, that's wild.

I remember Yu Suzuki once said the day he creates a game that he is totally happy with is the day he stops making games. I guess he just got really obsessive-compulsive with VF4, tho ;)

Kage has always been a favorite, and was definitely bumped up a LOT in Evo. He lost a bit of edge in FT, but last I checked, there were plenty of people playing him. Jacky is mainly n00b friendly b/c none of his moves are that tricky to pull off, he's strong, and well-balanced. Boring if you ask me.... most whities that use Jacky won't admit it, but all my Japanese mates I played with even admitted he was "chara-gachi". Means basically you win b/c of the character.

You know it, his love child has always been VF; and according to my sources, he's been working on VF5.

I suppose he's just trying to get some good financial leverage before he works on another Shenmue project. I hope he works on Shenmue sometime soon. . . One can only hope though. :?

I'm a Lion player and have been since VF2. Before that came out I focused mostly on Pai, but now I can barely play her well.

As for me; I've been using Sarah for awhile, maybe after I finish Quest mode with her I'll switch to someone else.

I left Japan six months ago. I didn't get too much into FT b/c it's a lot of $$ to not touch it for a long time. I left with my main characters being Aoi, Shun, and Lion (Lion & Shun highest ranked). I quit playing w/ my other ones (Pai, Lei Fei, Vanessa) so they just suck now. :)

Eh, don't the master JP VF players stick with 1 and only 1 character?

Not really. Chibita uses Lion mainly, but has cards for a few others (Kage, Aoi, and Vanessa a while back). Kyasao has a card for damn near all characters. They usually just stick to one for tournaments.

Interesting, so the "JP players only use 1 character" belief is actually just a myth... thanks for enlightening me.

Not a myth. Complete and utter bullshit. In fact, it's more common to have 3-4 characters than 1.

Probably the same number of people who care about when and where you got this game, and for how much.
