For the info, the list of games is missing Illvelo ( viewtopic.php?f=2&t=32456 ) and Radirgy Noa ( viewtopic.php?t=35098 )
I imagine the OG list may simply have been created before those games were out and wasn't updated by NTSC-J afterwards.

After long while I finally decided to make my contribution to this topic 8) .

Darius series :

First I’d like to point out that the Darius ranking that features Smraedis’s scores is actually New Version, which isn’t tracked by JHA btw. I don’t know about his other scores since I’ve haven’t found any replays, but I’m 100% sure his X score was done on New Version. Would you have a source for his scores by the way ? I don’t have any doubts about the player (far from it!), just curious to know where you found those scores. I’m in the process of trying to find out what are the best scores for Old version, it’ll might take some time since the system11 ranking unfortunately mixes up the two versions but I’ll come back to you when I do.

In the meantime here’s my best score for upper V Zone (4,459, 610) in New Version done one and a half year ago : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROHD4-UoU7o). I think It’d be good to distinguish upper V/Z from their lower counterparts (just like it’s done on the wiki), as they have different scoring potential and are basically completely different routes though both Vs and Zs zones are exactly the same zones

For Darius II I think It’d be great to add all the different routes to the ranking, as its usually the case for every Darius game. I think it’s also best to replace « Darius II/Sagaia » by Darius II since Sagaia is a different game (more on that later)

For Darius II here are my best scores :

Upper Z (3,032,070) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEDBO8Bcw4Q

Upper V (3, 254, 950) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPYyopfeYYA

Zone W (3, 458,460) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enZGF09F_lE

Zone X (3, 166, 060): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWi3TNli-YI

Zone Y (3, 148, 720) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSesKAd7rQ8

Lower Z (3, 296, 130): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QGlmLUvEaA

Lower V (2,897,290) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKAdx6HlTes

Don’t know if there’s any better community scores, at least I haven’t found any.

Triple-screen version :

Upper Z (2,821,010) by Smraedis

Upper V (2,626,030) by Dumpling : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T538AXWglzw

Zone W (2,980,300) by saucykobold : https://www.restartsyndrome.com/board.p ... 20Zone%20W

Zone X (2,624,204) by Chinopolis : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw8Dg2ZMN1o

Haven’t found any scores for other zones, guess those are free

As you seem to also keep track of some internationnal versions I’d like if we add Sagaia V.1 & V.2. While both Sagaia games use the exact same sprites (except for the Taito laser attack on Sagaia V.2’s N boss), music, game mechanics, etc, they have different stage layouts, boss behaviors, etc, and should be treated as different games. Like for Darius II two screens I haven’t seen higher scores than mines among community members so here are my scores :

Sagaia V.1 :

Zone M (2,555,170) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v77XCjmDaRA

Zone N (2,560,920) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pn2BcpS33BY

Zone O (2,536,670) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaoaE9WNxlU

Zone P (2,261,520) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv9-I4vYucI

Sagaia V.2

Zone M (2,730,720) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ifWkNL3Vw8

Zone N (2,622,680) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVotOHscAGg

Zone O (2,564,940) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4Cl_I0y450

Zone P (2,461,840) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSFfaRQ7m1Y

Gradius series :

I’ve also noticed that you’ve listed a Gradius score that was done on the Sega Saturn Deluxe Pack version, that version has some gameplay differences with Arcade though (I’ll create a topic explaining all the differences I’ve noticed when I have time).

In any case that score was beaten a few months by the great skalt711, who 3-ALLed the game (1,109,400) earlier this year, and at max speed :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHA7vhtMkF4

We could also add rankings for the US and World (sometimes called UK) versions of Nemesis. None really seems to play those versions but here are my humble scores, hoping it will encourage other players to have a go at it and beat me :)

Nemesis US (471,500) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Myrfzdv87RU

Nemesis World (450, 200) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcJuE5atTvs

Same for Gradius II which features scores done on the Deluxe Pack. While those ports aren’t bad by any means their scores don’t exactly compare to the arcade versions in my opinion, and I feel they should be separated. You can always keep a chart for Deluxe Pack version and PSP (they’re supposedly the same) since there seems to be many players playing those.

Here’s the update for Gradius II Arcade :

- DaringSpino 34’s great 2-ALL (1,267,600) done with Type 1 half a year ago : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAmHriOSJCg

- My humble 2-1 (449, 000) done with Type 3 half a year ago : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG3s_K7_8Rg

- As Saucykobold played on the Deluxe Pack I’d replace his Type 3 score by rs9’s recent 2-8 (923 000) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BNeQrSViUg

And here are the best community scores on the Deluxe Pack & PSP ports just in case :

- Skalt711’s 2-1 done with Type 1 (423,400) a year ago : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdOnOWNCOfw

- Haven’t found any Deluxe Pack scores for Type B, I know Skalt711 cleared it but he didn’t take note of his score.

- My even more humble 1-8 (495,600) done with Type 3 half a year ago : https://hiscores.shmup.com/photos/16409 ... .31.31.png

- Type 4 is Saucykold’s 3-4 (1,776,000).

Btw there’s three different versions of Gradius II/Vulcan Venture (western name), this has to do with the moai infinite and extend setting. From what I known Vulcan Venture’s versions 1 & 2 are exactly the same as Gradius II’s versions 1&2 gameplay-wise, the third version on which pretty much everyone plays (which has the 20k-every 150k extend setting) was exclusive to Japan. The old System11 rankings forbade anything but the third, but I’d be interested to track down the best community scores on those earlier versions (if there are any…) when I’ll have the time.

To end up with the Gradius series I’ll add my 1-7 score (325 410) done a few montswith the not very popular Type A : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0du7pajk0Vk

That type is actually quite good, it’s just that if you take it learning fire stage recovery becomes pretty much mandatory :P.

Last but not least I’d like to add Lyv’s Sengoku Blade Hagane run, as it’s the highest score done without starting from a savestate (997, 200) : https://www.twitch.tv/khaaos8/video/835970545 (run starts at 5:13:33).

Those scores were probably from the old Hall of Records thread if they are not present in the score thread. And it makes sense to seperate the two versions if they have different scoring potential, but most people in the original thread didn't state if they were playing the Old or New version, and I don't add any categories here that aren't present in the original score thread for reasons like this. Same also goes for the Upper/Lower categories. In this thread I try to just report everything like it's listed in the original score thread or RS. Even if I do agree with you that in my opinion they should be separate.

First of all, congrats on all of your scores! I know how much you've been playing this game and it's great to see you've achieved so much. I'm not going to repeat myself throughout this whole post, but like I said earlier, I don't add more categories here if they are not present in the original score thread. You have to imagine that if some other person beats your scores, he/she will also have to post a list of those here. And the person after that too ect...

For now, I've added the categories that were apparently still missing from that thread. Double monitor now has Difficulty A and B, and Sagaia has been split in V1 and V2. I believe that is the best solution for now, would you agree?

I must have missed this one, thanks for posting it here! And the Saturn Deluxe Pack version actually shouldn't even have been in this thread in the first place, since I only track arcade versions here.

I've added Nemesis, but is there anything wrong with KoopaTGR's 529,300 that's already in the score thread?

Understood. Yeah it's a shame JHA didn't differenciate new and old, and did not took into account upper zones from lower ones.

Not that I think, you can take this one (it's nice that the ranking has been finally openned)

Thanks a lot for the update :D

Top Scores July 2022

Armed Police Unit Gallop - 999,999 - Chinopolis *

Black Heart (World) - 1,091,200 - Kino

Detana!! TwinBee - 3,925,500 - ReFKey02

Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.5 (A Type, Bomb) - 330,084,947,945 - RLRBS

Dodonpachi Saidaioujou (Type B - Shot) - 10,013,623,246 - tomzacz

FixEight (Vistario) - 1,514,180 - Chinopolis

Gekirindan (Type C) - 2,322,280 - third_strike

Gradius II (Type 3) - 449,000 - Prickly Angler

Gradius III (Type A) - 325,410 - Prickly Angler

Great Mahou Daisakusen / Dimahoo (Miyamoto) - 59,797,000 - DMC

Rabio Lepus (Expert) - 1,741,200 - EmperorIng

Strikers 1945 II (Hayate) - 3,304,700 - Meriscan

Super Cobra - 83,450 - PEG

Zero Wing - 1,643,700 - PEG

---------------------

* Third_strike had already achieved this score before a couple of months back, so this will be added to the counterstop(s) for this game. Still, I think that displaying new counterstops in the monthly update is a good idea, even though it's technically not a new high score.

I'd probably want to do the same when I add categories for multi-looping games where 10mil is typically the goal. Although maybe there is a better way of displaying that than putting it next to all the other new high scores that are actually the new highest scores and not counterstops / 10.000.000+α. Something like this could maybe be a good idea?
Image
Any thoughts on this? Or should I keep them next to the other scores and not worry about putting them separately?

Seems like a good way to do it. It strikes me as a shame for games with a counterstop to close the recording once one person's done it. Why not encourage as many people to play a game for score as possible? Record the approximate date they get it, etc. Counterstops are difficult enough anyways that it's not like it's going to be tons of people adding their name to the list regularly (and you can just not record easy ones such when they're achieved via a glitch like the one you can trigger on stage 1 on old versions of Halley's Comet).

third_strike continuing to show off how effortlessly he crushes these older games. Keep up the great work, man!

Plasmo too, watching his Parodius Da stuff is pretty exciting.

Another month gone without achieving a coveted spot on da list...

Slight mistake, my top score in Black Heart is 1,710,200. That's what I get for sneakily editing my posts instead of making a new one, I guess? :P

MAZ hits it out of the park with that huge Ikaruga score. Feels like it's been a while since we've had a real push past 34 million. Congrats, it's a pretty stupendous score!

That DDP score is impressive given the ship, congratulations Prales!

That being said, all the scores for the last month are commendable.
I have a feeling I will make it back on ~da list~ come next month

Thanks for the update!

Kiwi's score is already from April earlier this year. He only posted it recently so I don't know if to include it or not.

Pretty insane month either way!

In previous months there have been several instances of someone getting a score maybe a few weeks before posting it on the forum/RS so that it was posted in a different month than in which it was played. But going back to edit the changelogs wasn't the best option in my opinion. It basically suggested you needed to post your score asap or it wouldn't be featured in a new 'Top Scores'-list, so the rule became to list all scores that were uploaded/posted from a month to be included regardless of when it was played.

There might be a breaking point, for example if the score is literally years old, but I also hope doing it this way might encourage people to post old scores every so slightly. Maybe a rephrasing of 'Top Scores <Month>' to 'Changelog <Month>' may be more clear for what that list actually means.

Yeah, utterly crazy month in the community. Between MKnight's continued Chaos Field domination, J and Plasmo's world record improvements, and all these other high replays cropping up (third_strike finding more and more dadgames to crush), this is a pretty strong close to the year.

But there's still one more month!

Looks like as of April of last year, Success's arcade release Cotton Rock n' Roll added the unlockable character and stages from the console ports. As it stands I don't know if there's a difference between home ports and the arcade anymore. Would there be interest in adding Cotton Rock n' Roll or would there be too much confusion/work?

If it's an accurate version of the arcade version I don't see why not. It's added now, and I've copied the categories from your hi-score thread. If it should be organized differently please tell me.

There might be some slight differences with the as-of-yet (?) unreleased exa version but as far as I know no one has played it (and lived to tell the tale). Thanks alot!

As a slight update, Iconoclast has the western record for Cotton in Rock n' Roll afaik:

Cotton (Normal)
Iconoclast - 214,454,900
