Shmups for a console without physical media?
Any shmups out there besides Dangan for Gameboy and GG Aleste 3 that were created for a console but not released on physical media?

Not sure I follow? Looks plenty physical to me:

Now what do we have here. GG Aleste 3 you got me. I should have said not physically released on the platform it was designed for. But is that Dangan release on Gameboy media? Is it for sale online?

That is an 100% official, licensed by Nintendo copy, yessir.
Didn't you already post this thread with a link to an Etsy page? Not sure what the point of the double-thread is here.

Formerly known as 8 1/2. I return on my second credit!

Oh, all right, apologies! And no, I can't think of any other, although I'm sure there are a few more for Gameboy. I only pay attention to physical releases though so I can't be more specific.shmupsrocks wrote:Now what do we have here. GG Aleste 3 you got me. It's a real working Gameboy cart, yes! It was a kind of community-made release, 100 to 150 copies, I think….but one's bound to pop up for sale somewhere, someday, I'm sure.shmupsrocks wrote:But is that Dangan release on Gameboy media? Is it for sale online?

Yes, and not released on that hardware. I was hoping there is more but that doesn't seem to be the case.Jonpachi wrote:You're looking for a list of shmups that were designed around abandoned hardware?

Since you've listed Dangan I guess homebrew counts here. So here's a few that weren't published by the console makers.

Is there not any that's not 2/5 minutes caravan themed? I'd rather play something more traditional instead.

This is awesome. I play on a Linux handheld all the time and hadn't thought to look for homebrew.pablumatic wrote:Since you've listed Dangan I guess homebrew counts here. So here's a few that weren't published by the console makers.

Great list. I thought Flight of Pigarus eventually got a physical release but maybe it was unofficial.
What Linux handheld is that?

There were two, actually. One very small batch of just 25 I made myself. Then later the much more professional release licensed out to 2Minds. It’s sold out by now, though, so if you stumble upon a new copy, that’s most likely a bootleg.shmupsrocks wrote:Great list. The Dangan release I posted about previously is completely different than the one Samuray posted a photo of here so I was surprised to see it.Shatterhand wrote:Yourself posted about Dangan Physical release just a few days ago on this post:shmupsrocks wrote:Now what do we have here.
