That's some horrible news! I grew up with "1, 2, 3, 4" and "Gangsta's Paradise" back in the 90's and for me, those two songs are rap anthems.
Thank you Coolio for your musical contribution.

Man, same. 1 2 3 4 is one of those songs that, like Whoop There It Is and The Roof Is on Fire that just permeates the brain. That hook is something that kids were saying without realizing it was Coolio.

Sad fact, though. My staff, all pretty young, had no idea who he was, though thankfully they did at least know Gangsta's Paradise.

Antonio Inoki, founder of New Japan wrestling 50 years ago. Was friends with Muhammed Ali, they had a sparring competition that some say was the beginning of MMA, his wrestling versus Ali's boxing.

Jesus :o 125 killed by football stadium crowd crush, Indonesia. Nightmarish way to go, let alone with riot cops dumping tear gas in.

One of those iconic names even those only distantly familiar with his work will have heard (in my case via the Fire Pro series). Rest well big man. ;-;7

Loretta Lynn, 90, pretty damned big time female country music singer, a lot of her songs were pretty much about her old man. There was a movie about her many years back, Coal Miner's Daughter, with Sissy Spacek playing her. Not a fan of country music overall, but her music is good, you can hear the sass in a lot of her music, yet everyone says she was the sweetest person they ever met.

Ah. Another of those names and faces it's hard not to know if you've the slightest proximity to their work. Sorry to hear, though 90's a good run by any standard.

Prolific actress Angela Lansbury, age 96; was in a million things, on both stage and screen, though my generation probably remembers her best as the voice of Mrs. Potts in Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Was just looking her up the other day, one of those perennial "blimey, still around, well that's nice" comfort names from the world of daytime TV drama.

Anyone else have a weird nostalgia for those? Whenever I was sick and couldn't go to school I'd stay at my grandparents' place, was all Matlock, Diagnosis MURDA and MURDA She Wrote. And Supermarket Sweep, cor, shit was HAWT.

I hope I've not put the evil eye on Dick van Dyke. >_< Life without Dick would never be nice! If I can't have my Dick I would never survive. 3;

Well anyway. Rest well ma'am, you inspired an all-time 90s jam ;-;7 (no you dirty bastards it's not a porno! fuck sake, can't take you anywhere ;3)

I'd like to forget that Robbie Coltrane ever played that role personally, it's a stain on his memory.

He was in Mona Lisa with Bob Hoskins, and don't forget about Cracker!

And Nuns on the Run!
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

lol. Yeah, and Nuns on the Run. I did enjoy that one, it was nice and silly. Overshadowed by Sister Act I think, but I liked both of them.

Man, 59. Out of all the game industry folks that have made this page, this one makes me take quite the stroll down memory lane. Probably b/c I played through the original Phantasy Star 15-20 times as a fat kid. BIL's post sums it up.

That's pretty sad, especially so young. For me the formative game was Skies of Arcadia, it blew my mind when I first played its Gamecube port back in high school. I still think about it and how well it captured a great spirit of adventure.

Any time he'd come up I'd think the exact same thing. Happened a lot.

'Cause yeah, in '77 here he already looked old as fuck. (Also, bangin' pic).

^ what a crew. And yeah, given how long it's been since the other three dudes in that pic passed on (RIP Roy in particular, poor bugger had a rough life), I too always thought Lewis had carked it. Truly a man from another age, including the whole 13y/o child bride thing >_>

Then there was the back-to-back accidental deaths of his wives from the late 70s. There was a whole thing were someone claimed to have evidence that he murdered at least one of them. I think it was wife 4 and 5, but it's been awhile since I went down a Jerry Lee Lewis crazytown hole.
