How well is Parodius Portable on PSP?

Post by KimagureMachibuse »

This collection seems to contain every Parodius game and a remake of the first Parodius game that released on the MSX. each game seems to be nearly perfect in terms of looks and performance not sure if it could be considered emulation or ports as there are alterations to the games such as alterations to the music. nor does it include some of the ports of Parodius Da! the Super Famicom port Gokujou Parodius or the Super Famicom version of Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius or even the original MSX version of Parodius.

I would like to further hear your thoughts on what you think of this collection.

Love it. Bought it back in the day. Great way to play the series. Just wish they would drop something similar via Hamster or M2 for modern consoles. Underrated port due to being only on PSP, but has the goods where it counts. Pixel perfect scaling options etc.

been playing this a lot recently, actually. it's not an exhaustive collection, but certainly plenty of fun and very responsive feeling! I was surprised they haven't done anything like it for consoles, but I do appreciate having these on the go. by default each of the games is on a 'tweaked' difficulty, with upscaled widescreen and half the rank increase rate, but there's an option to reset to original defaults in the settings.

I can't speak to the accuracy of the emulation as compared to original arcade hardware, but what I can say is that the games all look, sound, and play very well, and IMO it's worth tracking down a copy to play on the go. I would say the same goes for the Gradius Collection, and the Salamander collection as well.

All except the MSX version seem to be based on the PS1 versions, however about 6 songs over the arcade releases, and Jikkyou Oshaberi got changed, for Jikkyou the opening stage theme, "That's the Way I Like It" got axed in favor of some song from DDR. Can't say I was too thrilled with the changes, though it plays well, but would never make me get rid of my Saturn versions. The biggest bright spot though, MSX Parodius has smooth scrolling, making the game feel much better to play than the jerky scrolling original MSX version.
