I've had my copy pre-ordered with cocoebiz for a while now, I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in another thread.
Looking forward to it, I'll probably get more use from this than the previous DVDs.

They do and for a fairly reasonable price too (well, compared to say the Mushi and Ketsui DVD's).

I totally agree. The ESPG 2 one looks cool tho.Must have great art and lots of extras to be worthy.Still seems they could be $30.eastyy wrote:Do not really under stand why some of these appreciate dvds cost so much

PS:Dodonpachi

GC:Ikaruga

Hmm, lets see:eastyy wrote:Do not really under stand why some of these appreciate dvds cost so much
- cost to manufacture 5+ assorted CDs/DVDs
- quality control
- paying the players to play
- getting license to distribute the music
- getting license to acquire and distribute official art
- paying composers to do exclusive remixes
- printing the artbooks
- packaging design
- advertising
Anything else?
I have no problem paying $60 for a DVD/CD set of high-grade material, including replays of good games, high quality music and exclusive remix tracks, booklets of information (in Japanese, granted), art I've never seen before, etc...

Interesting enough to put the money down for? I just ordered the Ketsui and Mushi DVD's and pre-ordered the ESPGaluda II one so I'm a little low on funds currently. Just wondering if, in your opinion, this one is worth adding to the ever growing collection.zlk wrote:The replays are pretty interesting.

If you are a fan of raiden, raiden 2, or raiden dx, then this is a must buy. If you don't like the raiden series (the style of the game), then I can see how someone could pass this up.
I am not the biggest fan of the raiden series, but I am glad I bought the dvds/cds. The raiden dvd is facsinating, the player loses all his men as he leeches in a certain spot to get to 3m, then scores the next 7m on his last man. This takes nerves of steel because if he messes up once, he has to start over and scoring 10m in raiden takes a very long time. In the raiden 2 replay outtakes, they show what happens when you die in the 4th loop at a bad place. Basically you lose all your remaining lives very quickly. If you ever wanted to know how to score 10m on the three raiden games, here is your dvd.

Cool, thanks for the input. I'm not a huge Raiden fan though I do enjoy playing them every now and then. I'll probably order it next pay-day if for no other reason than to support the creation of these movies/games.
I had actually never played Raiden DX until last week. There weren't any big arcades where I grew up and the ones that were around had no shmups of any kind. The last place I ever expected to pump quarters into a shmup machine of any kind though was a Navy base but hey, they got something right for once!

Just watched the DX Training replay, and have a couple of questions..
Do you get more points for destroying things with missiles as opposed to your main shot? There are times where the player is obviously trying to only hit enemies with missiles..
Any idea why they don't bother with the 1UP on Novice st3? Just curious.
Nice alternative strategy for the Novice st3 boss too

Yes, you get a small amount of points for hitting stuff with your attacks. Spread and Homing Missiles are a usually desirable setup as they don't do as much damage from range, so big things take longer to die (meaning more tickle points).elbarto wrote:Do you get more points for destroying things with missiles as opposed to your main shot? Because it's a pain in the ass to get. You don't get life stock bonuses on the final score tally, so that 1UP is a bit of a risk. I don't usually go for it myself.elbarto wrote:Any idea why they don't bother with the 1UP on Novice st3? Just curious.
Is that the Laser and Homing Missiles method as shown in the preview clips off INH's site? It works as the Laser cuts through the small turrets on the first form really quickly - faster than my preferred method of Spread and Straight Missiles - but you need to be more careful in taking out the small turrets as you might force the boss into it's second form by accident.elbarto wrote:Nice alternative strategy for the Novice st3 boss too
Is the Tri/XII DVD really that boring?sven666 wrote:in comparison i got the trizeal/xIIstag DVD as well and man that shit is boring as hell.. played the games.. boring.. watched the DVD.. boring.. OST.. boring.. i really wanted to like 'em too...
I haven't bought it yet, but might just out of completeness.

Thanks for the clarifications.
Ah, I thought it might be down to not getting a stock bonus, but couldn't be sure.Icarus wrote:Because it's a pain in the ass to get. You don't get life stock bonuses on the final score tally, so that 1UP is a bit of a risk. I don't usually go for it myself.
No, the Laser/Homing method that you've mentioned before is from the Advanced Course replay. In this replay, the player uses Spread/Homing, but sits on the turret "cover" and takes it out immediately, before the boss even starts to move. Then they move up with the turret, just above where it fires from, hovering over it. Boss time of 4:45.Icarus wrote:Is that the Laser and Homing Missiles method as shown in the preview clips off INH's site? Interesting, I'll have to take a look at that. (Still waiting for my DVD ^_-)elbarto wrote:No, the Laser/Homing method that you've mentioned before is from the Advanced Course replay. I use Spread/Straight Missiles and take out all the small turrets first using the edge of the Spread, and wait until the boss gets to the end of the canal. Then I take out the turret cover, and pointblank the boss. My best time is 3:3x, but is a bit more risky.

I watched the Raiden run last night. And while it is a very impressive play. It does not have the "WOW!" factor I get when I watch a manic shmup superplay.
However, the set as a whole is definitely worth it for all the stuff you get. I just really REALLY wish I could read and understand japanese. I'd like to read the little book it came with. And I wish I knew what those messages said on the right side of the screen during the replays.

Has anyone else noticed a slight stutter to the video every couple of seconds? It's almost like a frame gets dropped every now and then, at fairly regular intervals. If I weren't watching it on an NTSC set, I'd probably attriute it to a standards conversion issue.
It's very slight, but it's noticeable. Less so in general play, but most prominent on faster scrolling sections like when the ship initially takes off from the carrier/base and the background moves by at high speed. (Might sound picky I know, but a lot of us obviously spend a lot of time on getting the image quality just right for playing these games, so why not also expect the best when watching playthroughs? Of course, a tate DVD would have been even nicer...)
Other than that one small issue, I'd agree it's a fantastic set and in terms of the amount of content included, definitely good value for money.

I noticed the same thing. I also had a problem with some of the runs where the volume was extremely low. I am not sure why this happens.LSU wrote:Has anyone else noticed a slight stutter to the video every couple of seconds?
