I have no idea how any leftie could side with Putin over this. He is literally a gangster capitalist living in obscene gold-toilet wealth atop a kleptocracy, and he launched a "preemptive strike" on a mineral-rich country, giving a blood-and-soil justification AND ludicrous talk about WMDs targeted at "Russian DNA." He is the apex Montgomery Burns!

Happy Friday the 13th everyone.

The current crypto downswing is pretty heavy, and a couple big ones have collapsed. Suicidal people in this forum on some that got rugpulled by a billionaire.

For today's cyberpunk dystopia, I bring you the $300,000 massage robot.

Image

Like all things cyber dystopia, it's more expensive and worse than things that already exist. In this case being a ~$400 massage chair that uses rollers. Or for $300,000 you could just buy a person, maybe even this highway guy. They could also make sandwiches for u.

This goofy thing is way more upbeat than like Bill Gates owning some lady's leg, and then repossessing it because one of his lawyers successfully convinced a judge it wasn't covered by her insurance.
Mischief Maker wrote:I have no idea how any leftie could side with Putin over this.
They shouldn't but some have pacifism as a core ideal. Not everyone buys into "you're with us or against us" on everything. We're all ideologues on some things.

I have no idea what the magnitude of gas being an issue of the current war is. But if we took what we're told on face value, it would be 0%.

For the record everyone, GIS did not have an image of just the robot, and was debating editing the post just now to just link to the youtube video instead to avoid this issue.

I don't think it would have helped much - their marketing team has this model basically stapled to this thing.

You have no idea about a lot of things, as everything you post rests on the unstated premise "those multimillionaires on TV would never lie to me!"

Under your brilliant plan, Ukrainians continue to die by the thousands, US and EU economies are tanking, and the Ruble is hanging strong. Tell me again who sides with Putin.

In reality, the Ukraine proxy war is just the Syria proxy war: the sequel. Replace Al Qaeda with Nazis. Maybe replace Assad with Denis Pushilin if you want to. Same script, but ticket prices are going to be triple this time because of bidenflation.
Glenn Greenwald has gone full Dave Rubin. He's gotten to the point of calling Tucker Carlson a "socialist." It's deeply disappointing.
Your homophobia is noted.

Oi, that talk of money reminded me a communist finally explained to me what they meant by "abolishing money", I wish Jon had taken the time to explain it years ago.

The difference between money and communist labor vouchers, is money is exchangeable while labor vouchers are not. So you can have all the money in the world by vacuuming it away from everyone else, while you'll never be able to amass godlike levels of power with vouchers since your labor is finite. The Diablo 3 real money auction house versus only being able to keep your own drops, is a good analogy of differing systems.

The idea that maybe our currency isn't as much different from crypto or video game currency as it should be always feels like a dark thought. Not as horrific as thinking about hydrogen, no. But the fact the empires we live under need to constantly expand, and jacking up prices is the only way to do that in a finite world without new lands to conquer... argh.

It's like society is one big suicide machine, prepping itself to go.

I think the Vietnam proxy war is a better analogy.

We're like the USSR providing weapons to the North Vietnamese to fight off military occupation by former colonial overlords. "Oh doesn't Zelenskyy/Ho Chi Minh realize that by putting up a fight he's intensifying the violence done against him by the imperialists?"

Shit, Putin's even got his own version of the Domino Theory regarding all the former neutral and Warsaw Pact countries scrambling to join NATO so he can't attack them.

Seeing that Terra (LUNA) reddit had a "no FUD" rule made me giggle something fierce. 0 posts in three days, "restricted" posting, I think they're serious about that. So I guess they're closing down soon.

Yeah, it's an easy litmus test of personhood. The leak was good everyone against it is bad. For a moment I felt bad about how I don't see those priests as people and would only feel relief at them being gone, but then I remembered they're a brainwashing army under the employ of Mr.Burns.

I'm seriously not joking about capitalists stripping away the New Deal and going back to as close to outright chattel slavery as they can. Does anyone here not think that's their ultimate goal, that it is pretty feasible it will happen, and there's nothing that can stop it from happening?

That's literally how the Friedman doctrine, which forms the undisputed cornerstone of conservative economics and has thus been adopted by pretty much every member of the owner class, works: you are literally not allowed to take anything other than making as much money as much as possible, as quickly as possible, by any and all means possible, into account, or else you're either not fulfilling your fiduciary responsibility to your shareholders or are competing with those who are (and, in the name of their pursuit of wealth remaining uninterrupted, are also working overtime to make sure both the government and the public either doesn't care or doesn't have a choice but to patronize them even if they do - which conveniently and utterly annihilates Friedman's weaksauce failsafe of "leaving those concerns to others") and are doomed to failure because you're not willing to do what it takes like they are.

Short of eliminating workers altogether - which, of course, they continue to make great strides in each and every day - the best way to put more money into your pockets is to strip said workers of both their compensation and their right to demand better, and since that's the only thing they can or do care about, of course they want to, at the very least, get as close as they possibly can to bringing slavery, indentured servitude et al back, and to a larger segment of the population than ever.

EDIT: In other news, Satanic portals.

Unfortunately, they will be back. It also means Russia will likely redirect their complete focus on taking southern regions and securing a landbridge and buffer to Crimea. Ultimately, Russia's new goal is to siege and seize to all of Ukraine's ports--and completely cut them off from the Black Sea.

I worry that there's no off-ramp from this conflict if Putin doesn't at least secure new territory near Crimea and obviously Ukraine wants to hold their western ports. Seems non-negotiable on both sides. I wonder how much blood and treasure we will all have to pour down the gutter to eventually reach that ugly compromise.

The extra layer of absurdity is how far divorced stonks are from profits these days. To a large degree I believe it's less about numbers and more abstract than that: being dicks for the sake of being dicks, as well as simply pushing the lower class down.

The whole replacing everyone with robots thing is absolutely abhorrent in the minds of the humanists I mentioned a bit before, and it's a bit of wishful bias on their case hoping that it's impossible. If it is possible, someone will make it happen if they have enough time before the gas runs out. I mean, here we are talking about money and keeping people in their place by every means, and they're over there banging a hammer against a pipe muttering "don't mind me, just working toward making a machine god here..."

I've asked economists what they think about the idea of having price ceilings; this seems similar. The problem is that people are very good at setting up black markets; people are going to come up with a medium of exchange regardless. That is more or less what the deal was with Prohibition - on the whole a win for mortality in the United States, but everybody remembers how it was essentially the government granting a monopoly to criminal enterprises (which actually, given the lack of opportunities for some immigrants at the time, may not have been an entirely negative thing, again).

"Rumble" is that Kelsey Grammer's new site?

I tend to avoid those right-wing "alternative" social media sites as they are a wretched hive of scum and cringe. For example, here is the latest big thing from Parler:

Let's be real, the guy wasn't wasting his vote on libertarian candidates.

Googling to see where he lives (it's somewhere in Texas) brought up some more musk nonsense. The guy says he lives in a $50k cardboard box, rumors say he's living in a $15m estate, with two unreliable sources we can only cut the difference and assume he lives in a $7m cardboard box. Even the smallest, most innocuous thing is a gigantic ball of drama, with this asshole...

Norm said he lived in an apartment since the idea of living in a giant empty box wasn't appealing to him. I'd like him back so much.. "You can have Musk, Gates, Cheney and Buffet in exchange, Satan" I'd say, but I realized they're already his.

That announcement of his new standup special, recorded presumably from his home, will feel a little sad, maybe ghoulish, but I'll take it. The world actively wants us to be unhappy when it took so many comedians from us over a single year. Among other things.

That's not an old quote, it's a 1993 quote from Kevin Alfred Strom, a Holocaust-denying Neo-Nazi who later plead guilty to possession of child pornography, that in recent years has been misattributed to Voltaire by nazis online.

Jesus fuck it's scary how mainstream social media has made nazi talking points.

It helps they usually toss a leftist bedsheet over their sales pitches. In isolation that one's harmless, normal people will assume it's referring to banks, oil barons, war profiteers, Comcast, etc. Only the Too Far Gones will think it means "globalists" (their current substitute for "Jewish people").

It's in the same bucket as benevolent dictator Tom's "he who feeds you, controls you." In context this was to support his initiative to make his country food independent as goal #1 to throw off the debt slavery french banks had imposed on them. From a leftist viewpoint, you could say it also applies to stuffing natives into a reservation and destroying their hunter gatherer way of life. While conservatives would infer something different from the saying.

You read into it what you want. The adage knife cuts both ways.

Also OJ is innocent.

I disagree! Escaping that prison sooner than later is ideal, vastly. Seeing miserable old bastards like the Clintons or Trumps who've wasted a huge chunk of their entire lives, that's pitiable.
