How can I figure out the optimal settings for the Mega Sg into a 1080p screen? Scanlines look bad no matter what I do.
What is the 320 and 256 thing? Are games in one of two possible resolutions?

A bunch of games run in 256 mode. Here’s FirebrandX’s list: http://www.firebrandx.com/OSSC/Genesis% ... 20List.txt
Re: Mega Sg settings
I use 720p whenever I opt for scanline filters.

Re: Mega Sg settings
Scanlines do seem to look fine at 720p but why is that better into a 1080p screen?
In general how can I find the settings into my 1080p screen that are technically correct?

Maybe because its integer scaling the 240p vertical res to 720p and displaying in a 1080p frame. Does the image completely fill the screen top to bottom or do you have black bars above and below the game image?
240p doesnt evenly scale into 1080. Its either got to be underscaled to 960p or overscaled to 1200p to get even scan (blank) lines.

Not quite sure why 720p tends to work better with scanline filters. Just my two cents, scanlines under 1080p look too fine and unnatural.

You must be on a very old firmware because scanlines look great @1080p. Just be sure to use integer scaling on the vertical axis.azmun wrote:Not quite sure why 720p tends to work better with scanline filters. Just my two cents, scanlines under 1080p look too fine and unnatural.

Nah, Mega Sg firmware are few years old IIRC. Either way, scanline filters aren't that new to begin with. Seems like the latest push now is with aperture grille and shadow mask (see RetroTink 5x pro and MiSTer's latest firmware updates very recently). That works well with 1080p.H6rdc0re wrote:You must be on a very old firmware because scanlines look great @1080p. Just be sure to use integer scaling on the vertical axis.
