PVM-2130QM turns on bushows nothing but a feeble white light

Post by AmintaShumps »

Hi all!

since last night my PVM-2130QM turns on but shows nothing but a feeble white light in the highest part of the screen.

Any idea / suggestion?

Blergh, pretty open ended there. Is the HV working? Do you get hair-raising static on the back of your hand against the screen when the set has been on for a minute or so? Does the admittedly black picture "fold in" when you turn off the power? I'm going to presume yes, here.

Assuming you have pushed all the buttons on the front and checked the settings there are right, and tested all the other inputs you can, and also tested your systems on another display to prove cables and consoles work, the next step would be to get the service manual for the PVM-2130. (I have a copy, but please try google first). Then open the set and reseat as many of the connectors for the cables between boards as you can find, with the set off of course. After that i would check the voltages for each colour going into the neckboard- it should change when you input a signal. A similar approach, going backward from the neckboard, breaking the stages down one by one and checking if voltages change at the connectors, might be the step after that. Unless the neckboard connector *is* seeing voltage, in which case the problem is likely to be on there.

From memory, you can bridge the 12V on the neckboard video connector to each of the colour inputs on the same connector briefly to test. Should flood that colour over the screen. Doing it through like a 1k resistor is probably an even better idea because those inputs are normally only around 4-5V, i think :) You should see what the service manuals says, there. And the usual Be Safe Around Live Equipment warning applies, of course!
