Looks good, the ship sprites look very solid and well made like the big commercial games.

Cool. Ship sprite is unusually big compared to the bullets, is that intentional?

Thank you both.
And yes, it's intentional. Still 50% the Steel Vampire size. :lol:

I picked this game up awhile ago but recently got around to playing it. Really solid bite-sized shooting game. RNG can occasionally be cruel, but overall fun game. I found that you handled offscreen enemy visual warnings well and I like how some enemies have animations that indicate when they will shoot. Good art too.

I Installed on my Steam Deck on a whim to see if it worked. Game seems to function pretty well from a fresh install on the deck. I had to map ESC to one of the back buttons to return to the main menu through the pause menu, that was the only change I had to make. Movement is limited to the D-Pad but I was able to clear hard using the D-Pad without too much issue. The game program runs smooth and responsive and loading is effectively instant. Vibration when player is hit works too; nice touch, but vibration could be made a tad bit stronger imo.

The biggest issue I found with the game on the deck is the "Controller: OFF/ON" option. It is defaulted to OFF, but enabling this option effectively softlocks the game on the Steam Deck. Most user controls become unresponsive and this is stuck until the user edits the config files or re-installs the game. If you want a hotfix, you may want to disable/remove/hide this option specifically for Steam Deck users:

Code: Select all

#tested GDscript
func _ready():
	if _is_on_Steamdeck():
		#RUN STEAMDECK-SPECIFIC CODE HERE e.g. analogoption.disabled = true
		pass

func _is_on_Steamdeck() -> bool: #function to see if program seems to be running on Steam Deck hardware
	var _system_OS_info : Array = []
	OS.execute("lsb_release", ["-a"], true, _system_OS_info)
	if "SteamOS" in _system_OS_info[0]: #check if running "SteamOS" (will return false with decks running other OS; e.g. Windows 10)
		var _system_usernames : Array = []
		OS.execute("lslogins", ["--output","GECOS"], true, _system_usernames)
		if "Steam Deck User" in _system_usernames[0]: return true #check the list of system users
	return false
I'll mention the game next time I post on the Steam Deck shmups list thread.
