Re: Pc-98/Fm Synth music recommendations?
So the cool dude developing VGMPlay for MSX made me a special custom version that supports 2xNeoTron (OPNB) cartridges. Thanks to this, I can now play a ton of games that use 2 OPN chips at once.

Metal Orange BGM gives me METAL BANANA Tecno Soft fans should like this
The Tower of Ordeals is my Credits BGM this season. I have to stay functional until the mission is complete. Then it doesn't matter.

Re: Pc-98/Fm Synth music recommendations?
Probably already been posted at some point, but I think Hyper Duel (AC) often gets overshadowed by the Thunder Force series. It's got Tecno Soft's signature FM synth programming (). I think it lives up to their best works. I believe Hyakutaro Tsukumo is responsible for most of the compositions.
For some more straightforward FM synth metal headbanging, here's some tracks from X68000 caravan game Zero Rei (chances are I already posted this in this thread at some point, but was recently revisiting them):
You can choose which BGM to use while playing the game (I think there might be one or two more).
Also revisited the music from Hatenkou (also X68000)
EDIT: One more, Critical Hit from Battle Crust (Hyakutaro Tsukumo)

- It's only 3 tracks (IIRC, anyway, that's all I ever uploaded), so I'll just post the whole playlist
- Into Blue
Bird Island This one reminds me of Fantasy Zone a bit (probably that thicc bass tone. This one is probably more chill, though)
EDIT: One more, Critical Hit from Battle Crust (Hyakutaro Tsukumo)

More music!
Batrider gets kind of unjustly overshadowed by its predecessor I think. Great music!

- Choice or Die So funky!
Airport Possibly a bit of a new wave type vibe? IDK.
Chasing Gang, Need 4 Speed Not sure how to describe this (a lot of stuff mixed together) but I like it
Stab and Stomp Can't forget this remix of one of the best from BG

Ok, this is MIDI not FM. But damn this experiment turned out quite amazing I must say.

Stage 1 BGM's murderface house is very Raiden Fighters, I dig That grainy hi-hat is so good Stage 2 is very different, the melancholy synthpop almost reminds me of M.N.M.'s Star Trader. Good stuff.

So if you haven't heard it yet, the new Doom 32X Resurrection has some fantastic new music.
Or course I am required by law to play it on my MSX!

Sounds good except some of the noise sounds are a little loud. I don't know if it's like that on the originals.

Re: Pc-98/Fm Synth music recommendations?
MSX doesn't have a true OPN2 cartridge yet. It simulates it by using OPM and the rarely used TurboR exclusive PCM chip. The internal PCM is the cause of the noise. Not much can be done about it sadly.Udderdude wrote:Sounds good except some of the noise sounds are a little loud. I don't know if it's like that on the originals.

So in honor of this threads title, here are some OPNA (YM2608) tunes played on MSX via OPNBB (YM2610B) cartridge.

Beautiful tone and selection, as always! Soundtracked this morning's writing sterlingly. I'm very familiar with Illuision City, plus Koshiro's The Scheme and Misty Blue OSTs, but Hole Chaser (what a name ) was brand new to me.

Not sure if FM VERTEX I - CHAOS THEORY was recommended here before, but it's a fantastic album full of huge names from the arcade FM world, and a second album is in the works.
Re: Pc-98/Fm Synth music recommendations?
Definitely some good tracks on there.

Wow, no kidding when you say it had to be downgraded for the Mega Drive. That sounds fantastic, and the separation in the mix is really good.SuperDeadite wrote:MSX does the OPNA versions of Streets of Rage 2

Now I want to hear what the original SoR 3 was like. I'm not sure anything can save those wonky compositions, but the original vision for the sound design should be interesting.
Re: Pc-98/Fm Synth music recommendations?
X68000 After Burner, sounds so damn good! Underrated soundtrack imo, at least I don't see as much love for it as OutRun's OST in the West. Pure top-gunning feelgood, with a bit of darker-hued ass kicking via RED OUT. Here's the SST Band tearing it up live.

Re: Pc-98/Fm Synth music recommendations?
Really love Savaged Regimes YM2612 covers. (Most of them can be played on actual hardware) ((He also did the soundtrack for Xeno Crisis))
I wish I had the articulation skills to describe just how good this cover is. This goes for all of his covers... They are done with such care.
A cover of one of the songs from the RTS game: Starcraft - Terran 3. (The Terran tracks in this game fall into the legendary/timeless category)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NBqicMz5Zc
EDIT: Just realized this cover was already posted above.
Goes to show you guys know your stuff. Of course I did not go through this whole thread. It would almost be a disservice not have Savaged Regime in here by now.

Also posting my Horror Synth/Dark Synthwave EP here, since all of it's music is done on a vintage Yamaha 4-op FM synthesizer (with percussions done on a vintage Yamaha drum machine.)

So I've been testing a new indy MIDI module, "BeepBlaster." it responds to standard General MIDI control, but does not contain ROM samples. It actually uses PWD Modulation to generate sound on the fly. I've found it to be the perfect enhancement device for AY/SN7 PSG. Sounds very close to Konami SCC. Love it.
