Then again presidential kids always have issues:

Seems to be the week of MSX lol, as my PlaySoniq came in today.
Basically it's a cartridge that contains an actual Sega Master System VDP chip.
This allows me to play SG1000 and Master System games on MSX.
Since I own zero SMS systems, this is quite nice for me.
No region bull, I can freely switch between 50/60htz, enable or disable FM (MSX FM uses the same chip as SMS),
and the PlaySoniq has beautiful RGB output. Also I can use my MSX->SNES controller adapter too.
Plus being a European product, it also contains a legit C64 6581 SID chip for blasting tunes.
It has other functions as well, but kind of technical if you aren't an MSX freak.

Visited LA last week, made out like a bandit:

This showed up today, my first and probably last LRG purchase. Not because I have anything against LRG, I just usually don't really care about having stuff physically. This was a rare exception, I wouldn't have gotten it digitally on Switch either way since I already have it digitally on X360 and could play it there.

LRG are super hit and miss, especially their Japanese releases. Their Caladrius for PS4 was full of typos that they didn't bother to correct.

I did note one missing line of text in the instruction booklet, otherwise I haven't found any issues with this one yet.

Got the regular LRG release, months ago - seems like the collector's edition version was super delayed for some reason. It's a fun game, but I only got it because it was cheap, they've definitely put out much better games. Also, their collector releases often feel really crappy and cheap, but this one fortunately looks fairly nice!

Moreover - not bought by me, but some of my latest birthday presents I'm particularly pleased with:

I won't be reading those brick-sized ones quite so soon because my left hand's recovering still, but this one...

Took advantage of the tax refund. SNES Jr. has RGB mod and looks incredible with the HD Retrovision cables (which are hooked up to the RetroTink 5x). Finally got something new for the Dreamcast. Jaki Crush isn't new.

Something embarrassingly revealing about one's reaction to such Awards. I feel it's uncool to admit I care, but then it stings when something I dislike gets awarded (which is petty, I THINK, but the SENSATION persists). Then another sensation - redeeming one - occurs when something I feel should be known receives a prize much talked about.

This time it was double-timely, since: a) Love Medicine title by the Author, which I read at the last Century's end, had been on my mind lately for some reason, and b) I needed a birthday present for my sister (whose the copy of Love Medicine I once read was). Furthermore, I can still hope for reading all of it myself pretty soon, having over two weeks' worth of sick leave before me left, needing to occupy myself with something spiritual as I rehab my left hand.

Image

I've developed peculiar liking for Naxos (a lot like for Aplha before), so I guess they can do the branding, but only recently did I learn about their collaboration with NOSPR, and about this Turangalîla-Symphonie recording. I seem to had been misinformed that Messsiaen himself was present on site and approved this particular job they did - the dates don't add up, so maybe what I heard was about eariler recording of another piece.
It was not recorded in current, cutting-edge NOSPR building, obviously, and I think it can be heard, although I've been increasingly confused as to what really has changed in classical music recording practice since nineteen-eighties (that would be relevant using consumer-grade gear). Certainly, SACD can carry surround sound, but this was technically made before going digital, and did'nt make quite the impact on music as it made on films, then games.
Sure, classical music CDs released in the last couple of years DO sound differently from eariler decades' DDD releases, but this may well be the matter of mastering rather than recording itself, seems to me. Which is not to say they go to "loudness war" full blast - goodness, no - but I suspect they are intended to be heard in a tad louder environment, or - particularly - in the car? These days. Living on the go.

Got my DARKY MSX cartridge in last week. This is one of the crazier MSX creations out there.
Basically it contains 2x 6 channel ePSG chips, 2x stereo mixers (so all 12 channels can be panned individually),
and a Spin FV-1 effects processor for adding reverb, flanger, echo, etc.

So here's a direct capture this beast in action.

I choose alcohol, sir, not that I WANT to.

Image

"Czytelnik" means "reader" in Polish, for what it's worth.

Image

Pre-ordered this Chopin one and I seem to have received it just a couple of days before premiere. Waiting for "her" Liszt and Messiaen, then. Likewise, anticipating live performance, preferably someplace large. For it is mystery to me - how such "quiet attack" on modern piano carries over to real concert environment.

Score another point for LRG's releases being traaaaaaash.

Image

And this is what it was supposed to be like:
Image

-The script is palm sized, and barely readable.
-There's no manual, just a sleeve with a warning.
-The OST is in a sleeve, not a case.

That said, the remaster is great(bugs aside), but it feels super tedious now. It streamlined the gameplay to take place in one room at a time, so you just sit there shooting 20 mooks in a row for what feels like forever.

Finally got a couple DC imports, though the game the twinsticks are for actually isn't an import (they work great with the US version of VOOT, which I actually bought a long time ago). I'm liking the real Zero Gunner 2 quite a bit so far.

If it's the kind of sleeve I'm thinking about, these excel at storing optical disks for me. Only severe mishandling can do any harm to them (disks stored in such sleeves).

Got me another bargain bin CD.

For Marc,

Yes, that cool Jetfire Transformer was offered for sale at the American based Toys-R-Us stores back in November of 2016 at the original MSRP of $44.99 usd indeed. I bought one & they were hard to find at retail back in the day. The JPN Transformers variant of Jetfire (circa 2016) was sold in converted jet mode (whereas for the USA, it was sold in "robot" mode to show off it's sheer massive size as a major selling point).

Good stuff. Youthanasia's a stronger album than I was led to believe... I think it wears its grunge influence better than Countdown To Extinction's radio-thrash, and the title track is heavy as fuuuck. (btw, compare its riff with Judas Priest's "Hero's End" off Stained Class)
