Sigma Company History

Post by K-2 »

I don't know why, but Ive been trying to find history on Sigma or any of the old supergun makers I.e. Pana, Vega, etc.

Trying to google Sigma or Sigma Electronic is pretty futile so far, anybody know anything on these companies or have a link to company page?

There's a few, but none look like the right one:
http://www.sigma-elec.co.jp/
http://www.sigmadenshi.com/company_data.html

...even more not listed.

I've had 20 of their units go through my hands easily and I don't recall seeing anything remotely like their company info on any of the paperwork... kind of weird for Japan. Then I remember that I'm no spring chicken and mildly stupid after years of abusing myself.

So I went to dig a bit and found this.
Address is:
654-0054
兵庫県神戸市須磨区本町2-1-40
シグマ電子

Another address (I believe previously, until 2006)
兵庫県三木市志染町広野5−254
based on this image.

Supposedly their wiki:
https://w.atwiki.jp/sigma-denshi/

Anyway, that's a start. Off the top of my head, Shou is probably the best person to ask about this. Not sure what his email / PM response time is these days though.

Thanks GaijinPunch!

You got me google translating address into street view. Only getting partial matches to some back alleys and train overpasses. Looks like they are possibly located in the Kobe burb of Miki, which is way more than I knew before and interesting in of itself.

Would be cool to see if they had any type of storefront or what the neighborhood is like. Astounding that they have no website whatsoever.

Makes you wonder if they have any clue of their cult following overseas.

You'd be surprised how many Japanese entities are built on obscurity. American politicians love to say small business is the heart of America or some shit like that, but the number of small businesses in Japan is astounding.

Something tells me the guys at Mak would know the best. They are also pretty friendly, or at least were 10 years ago when I used to frequent them. I know that it's a shadow of it's former self, sadly.

Anywho, best of luck on you endeavors - make sure to post updates!
