Off topic section gaming / non-gaming split
Off topic section gaming / non-gaming split
So it's been a month - how has this worked out for people splitting general off topic gaming and true off-topic content into two sections?

Re: Off topic section gaming / non-gaming split
One month on, I think it's an improvement. Rather than having (often equally excellent) gaming and movie/tv/music threads jostling each other up and down the front page, we now have a neat division with the best and/or most popular of each.
We've always been a relatively quiet forum, of course. Not like threads were getting catapulted down the list to begin with. As subtle as the gain is, though, I hope it stays.
Being able to see the "General" view with a click is handy. I don't know how feasible a fully-fledged "classic mode" would be - I wouldn't use it, myself - but for those who prefer the old Off Topic, that could be an ideal compromise.
Assuming we stay with the new setup, I think it'd be good to have an official ruling on nominating old, pre-split threads for migration. A couple weeks back, I dropped an ungodly avalanche of links from my post history on BulletMagnet, who shunted them over impeccably (I promised him I wouldn't do it again ). Since then, I've kept a slowly-building tally of stragglers (I see the Paprium thread was moved already, good show). If PMing mods/admins with these nominations is cool, I was thinking of submitting every fortnight or so, but if that's going to annoy pls let us know. ;3

I didn’t realize that a change had even been made.

Haha, honestly I think that probably means we got it somewhat right.Downcry wrote:I didn’t realize that a change had even been made.
I think that's enough time for the poll now, 17 / 2 is fairly conclusive.

IMO more threads need moving from OT to other gaming. There are still threads right now on page one of OT that should be moved.

I guess the question is what's the best way to mark threads as "hey we should probably move it"? Just post a running suggestion list here and mods do it as they have the time to review it sorta thing?
Re: Off topic section gaming / non-gaming split
If it's bumped up on the front page of OT, it should be moved. If it's on page ten bajillion, just leave it there.
Re: Off topic section gaming / non-gaming split
Pretty much. Just moved some more including the two linked above.

Or that the subforum categories don't really serve any purpose to people in the first place.system11 wrote:Haha, honestly I think that probably means we got it somewhat right.Downcry wrote:I didn’t realize that a change had even been made.
I can only speak for myself though. I only use the "active topics" list, and since there's no way to filter subforums anyway, I'm not sure what role they play.
This kind of categorization would be more useful if you were able to exclude certain ones, as opposed to seeing just one at a time.
