Country music singer Charley Pride, 86, victim of Covid-19 complications. First black singer of country music to be inducted into their Hall of Fame. I'm no country music fan, but his voice was fantastic.

Chris Tucker took the wholesome route soon after, and we were condemned forever to watch Friday on repeat.
It's a genuinely great film, it should be (I'm happily sure usually is) noted. Sure there's toilet humour ("I feel ten pounds lighter!") and slapstick (Smokey's Harrowing PCP Journey) but the chassis - young men who ain't got shit to do, surrounded by economic strife and nihilistic temptation - is sound and universal. In a way, it's Menace II Society steered away from tragedy, an optimistic comedy of errors rather than a funeral dirge for lost urban youths. No surprise that the single greatest determiner of fortunes here is probably the sadly missed John Witherspoon's Pops.

He was fantastic. I still like the kitchen scene with him berating Craig the best.
Let's also not forget the soundtrack -- old school & new school.

Dawn Wells, girl-next-door extraordinaire and clearly the hottest on Gilligan's Island, has died of Covid complications at the age of 82.

Fun Fact: She spoke at my tiny university I attended for one year.

She and Ginger were half the reason I watched that show as a kid. Shame we lost her, even more upsetting due to the pandemic.

Some of my earliest memories ;-; I remember the local video place would record US TV and rent out the tapes. Later on when I was committing genocide by Kleenex five times a day we got internet, and there was one HAWT r34 about her character! What a sad microcosm of technology's good and ill on the youth!

What the fuck am I saying at this poor woman's funeral  Oh yeah the GIF. Image

You're not the first person to come out with stories about how they basically learned to jerk it to her. Maybe not the classiest thing to say but doesn't make it less true. :) She's the 60's version of Olivia Newton John in that black outfit at the end of Grease. I was too young to tell what the hell was going on but I knew I liked it.

Apollo Legend of YouTube and B.Mitchell controversy fame couldn't put up with his depression any longer. :(
Only 21 years old.

I watched his "suicide note" video and felt a little dirty as I did it, but he was very calm and controlled about it, and made sure to not blame anyone even though it would be easy to apply that to it, and pointed out that this was entirely about himself.
Condolences to all of his relatives and loved ones.

Not to get too dark here, but this is a pretty compelling reason for me to just keep on keeping on. I can't imagine how my folks would cope if something happened to me or I let my life completely fall apart.

It's not that dark. No matter how shitty things get, I imagine how horrible it would be for my mother to live through my death. A classmate of mine died in high school and I recall her saying on the way to his funeral "I can't imagine the pain of outliving your child..." Sticks with you.

That's sad. I always like Marion Ramsey; she's pretty awesome.

To add to her credits, she was a reoccuring character on the Addam's Family (animated), and also had guest spots on Robot Chicken and Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!

I've hanged out with him on multiple occasions and I was pretty devastated by the news. I was told by a friend several days ago, and I still haven't been able to process it and react accordingly yet.
I'm really glad it's public now, because it's easier when you're able to talk about it, but I have full respect of Heather wanting to deal with it on her own before making any official statements. I feel so sorry for her.

Yeah this is so awful. Way too young and never heard a bad word about him.

He was one of the first people I discovered when I got into the classic tetris scene along with Harry.

If you've ever watched any of the "Honest Game Trailers" videos on YouTube, the channel recently announced that the guy who did the voiceovers for them, Brad Venable, died last week.

Casino kingpin and Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson finally died.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Phil Spector carks it in prison, 81 years old. It may just be my bad luck encountering him on historically troubled Beatles/Ramones records Let It Be and End Of The Century, but I think his productions were less "wall of sound" than "wall of gloopy, over-egged shit." Anyway, always sounded like a classic weird boffin cunt.

I always have a weird feeling about listening to his productions. I'm a huge fan of Ronnie and love her early songs. It's kind of bizarre listening to that stuff knowing what a monster he was and what he was doing.

Whatever, Norman Whitfield is like 1000 times the producer that PS ever was and The Supremes are god status to me whereas The Ronnettes are basically a one hit wonder with a slew of third tier follow ups.

Can't say I was following his continuation, but I'm sure as hell Ronnie has been.

Man, I loved his stuff. Same with the girl bands, especially The Crystals. "He Hit Me (And it Felt Like a Kiss)" is the most ridiculous song ever. Some of his stuff gets really bizarre, but I dig it. Big Leonard Cohen fan, and despite how uncharacteristic his Spector album was, it's got some damned good songs on it. Obviously was a giant piece of shit, but eh, ya know.
