Games of E3

Post by UnscathedFlyingObject »

Talk about your fave games, ok games, disappointments etc of E3. No console wars here. Only games.

Favorite games
- God Hand (PS2): the trailer fucking rocks. It makes me think of Final Fight, Fist of the North Star (tho I've never seen the show), and Chou Aniki. LOL. What's more, they brag that it'll be "ball bustingly hard", which is braggable since you can LEVEL DOWN in this game :D. True innovation.

- Mega Man ZX (DS): all new sprites! It looks like this will look about as good as the MM games on the PS. I hope it will be painfully hard.

- Castlevania Portrait of Ruin (DS): I saw some recycled sprites in the trailer but otherwise looking good. Let's hope it's harder than Dawn of Sorrow.

- Ultimate Ghouls and Ghosts (PSP): awesome trailer. I was relieved when I saw that the game will have a really hard difficulty.

- Time Crisis 4 (ARC): a trailer would be nice, but I've heard some nice things about it.

OK games
- Valkyrie Profile Silmeria (PS2): Looks like it's shaping up nicely. It would've ranked higher, but I've received nothing but disappointment from 128 bit RPGs.

- Persona 3: Looks nice and seems like It'll have an interesting concept.

Disappointments
- I was expecting a new Contra or Gradius game from Konami for DS, PSP or PS2.

- YS Oath in Felghana was not showed nor announced.

- No announcement for Metal Slug 6.

Favorite games
- Metroid Prime 3: Yeah, it looks like the other prime games, but I'll still love it anyway. I think the wiimote will be great for a slower paced game like this than traditional FPSes.

- Mass Effect: Oh man, KOTOR was great, and so I'm looking forward to this.

- Gears of War: This and Mass Effect will get me to buy a 360 before the end of this year.

- Crysis: If you say you weren't psyched up for this game after watching it for even a minute, you are lying, period.

- Splinter Cell Double Agent: This series, in my opinion, has so surpassed MGS in the stealth genre it's not even funny. And this installment is looking pretty good.

- Elite Beat Agents: Even if it's a westernized Ouendan, more of the same gameplay and zany storylines can't be a bad thing. Please find some catchy music for it!

Average
- Spore: It sounds insanely huge, but the game sounds a little too freeform. It sounds like it starts off as a scifi Sims, but then becomes like a rudimentary RTS in the later parts? Will Wright's made games that I've been hooked at for long periods of time, so I'll look forward to more descriptions, but for now, meh.

Disappointments
- DOA Volleyball 2: God, when does this end? Crap like this makes me embarrassed to say I play video games.

- PS3 games: In light of the really good looking 2nd generation xbox 360 games, the graphics jump wasn't there, and the gameplay advances definitely weren't there to justify the asking price.

- No announcement of Fist of the North Star arcade coming to the PS2! Come on, Sega/Sammy - I want this game now, dammit!

I basically haven't kept up with any E3 stuff, haven't read any coverage, haven't even read the threads here.

Any news on Ultimate GnG release date? I've had the Japanese version pre-ordered forever...

The only games that sparked my interest were Final Fantasy XIII, Twilight Princess, and the new Mario. MGS4 and the new Smash Bros. looked neat, too.

If I could have any single product from E3 RIGHT NOW, it would have to be Gears of War.

I really haven't read anything about this game, but I should. They are saying that the Looking Glass people are behind it, but are they really? Or is it just one or two guys?

Really want:

Super Mario Galaxy, MGS4, Twilight Princess, Wii Sports, Halo 3, possibly Heavenly Sword (though the more I read about that, the less I seem to want it :? ), Dead Rising.

Quite want:

Almost all other Wii and X360 games. A few PS3 games too.

Really do not want:

Tekken 6. What the shit happened to this?! :?
Sadly, most of the PS3 games. Let's hope the better developers master the architecture sooner rather than later.

Irrational was formed by some ex-Looking Glass people and some new blood. Their first title was System Shock 2--with Looking Glass, which further confuses the proper "who worked where" for me.
Looking Glass is no more, but not everyone joined with Irrational. Some joined with the final Ion Storm before it closed. Some work with (if not at) Harmonix. Amongst others.

Bioshock is led by Ken Levine, who was in charge of System Shock 2 and helped flesh out the world of the first Thief, though he was not project lead.
So, in proper response to your questions: yes, there are some ex-Looking Glass people on the project, but I wouldn't expect more than 10.

The things that most interested me were Bioshock, the various games coming to XBLA, the new Rainbow Six, and Viva Pinata - totally unlike anything you'd expect on the 360. The Yoshi title coming for the DS looks pretty from the screenshots too.

Super Paper Mario

Seriously, this just spells "great fun" for me. Never saw something like this coming too. Another great farewell present for theGamecube (although it'll be playable on the Wii too.

Doesn't this look great!? :D

Crisis best looking game ever period

MGS4.Raiden actually looks cool

Gears of war.Great mix of traditional Cliffy B shooters with more strategy

In case anyone's wondering about the absence of DMC4 and RE5 their going have them fully playable at TGS.

Overall, nothing stood out to me. There seem to be some games with potential, but they all seem like prettier versions of similar games I've already played. However, I'd really love to play Virtua Fighter 5 online. Is there any word of vf5's online ps3 capabilities? Even so, I doubt I'll buy a ps3 before a few price drops.

Did you miss the 128 bit part? Cause I recall VP and SO2 came out on 32 bit. And unless you would rank Till the End of Time above those 2 or even SO SFC then I don't really see a problem with his statement at all.

I prefer TTEOT over SO2, but that's just me.
As far as current gen standard fare RPG's go, only Dragon Quest 8 has caught my attention for more than 10 hours (in addition to only having PS2).

And just to stay on topic, I saw the E3 Metal Gear Solid 4 movie and it's definitely something to be desired. Now all I need is further word on development of Gradius 6 and Zone of the Enders 3 both which seem to be on hiatus for *ahem* obvious reasons.

Yeah, he prolly missed the 128 bit part. 'newyas, I didn't think the first SO was that great. I love the second one tho. VP is awesome too, and I don't expect the sequel to be anywhere near as good.

We shall see....we shall see...I was reading Matt's review of the demo at RPGamer.com and it seems to be 3D placed in 2D platform style.

I can only hope Motoi Sakuraba uses his synths for the music again instead of that weird Jazz Organ fetish he's been into lately.

Heavenly Sword is turning out to be so much better than I ever would have given it credit for.
