Good news : X <-> 0 in Japan.
Good news : X <-> 0 in Japan.
Great news.
Start your PS4 copy of ketsui.
Run the update.
Now you can enter with X and 0 is back.
Sony Japan has changed this for PS5, like the rest of the world has.
How many times do i press the wrong button ?, many many times, not any more.
Thank you M2 for the rapid update.

Re: Good news : X <-> 0 in Japan.
Why is that good?
It's always frustrated me that Western PS games do it the opposite way around.

I have western battle garegga copy, if i play it after ketsui, i was still pressing the wrong button,

Not Nintendo, they are still sticking to the original button placements.trap15 wrote:Bad news: now everyone's doing it wrong
And people who only played video games for like a month will continue to bash them for "being opposite".
Re: Good news : X <-> 0 in Japan.
was this too hard to understand?
Re: Good news : X <-> 0 in Japan.
I guess they decided to standardize based on their biggest market?
Anyway, the deeper problem here is that the face buttons have such ambiguous usability in the first place that it actually led to confirm/cancel being opposites based on the region. And why is circle red? And triangle green? Unfortunately the identity of the buttons is too deeply entrenched in the Playstation branding (and legacy compatibility) to expect a change at this point, though looks like PS5's controller is dropping the misleading colors in favor of making everything gray...

This is not good news.
Re: Good news : X <-> 0 in Japan.
I play blind and dont look to what button it really is icon-shape or color.
Suppose they changed it the other way around you all would say : good news.
Because you all only play japanese games ?
Just get used to it.

Re: Good news : X <-> 0 in Japan.
I would, because right-side button was traditionally accept until sega fucked it all up with the dreamcast and microsoft decided to basically clone the DC for the xbox. Also, O is obviously "ok" and X is obviously "wrong", so why should the meanings be inverse from that?
The real question is why isn't this a system setting yet? Just let people pick which is best, there's already support for both in basically everything.

Re: Good news : X <-> 0 in Japan.
It's not just a matter of getting used to it. A lot of us still play games on older systems, meaning that I would have to "get used to it" all over again every time I decided to play on my PS5, and then again when I switch back to my PS1 or SFC or what have you. It would be a real head ache...

Re: Good news : X <-> 0 in Japan.
If you rest your thumb over both buttons, X is right and square is left, relatively speaking, and you can quickly access both. This was the preferred way to hold your thumb over controllers from the SNES days as most action games assumes Y was the same function as the NES B, and B was the same function as the NES A, with X and A on the SNES being secondary buttons.
Some SNES RPGs of course did use A confirm, B cancel, but it feels more natural to be able to have your thumb resting over both buttons in my opinion.

And because I've played games since long before the PS1, and still play those games because they are still good.heli wrote: Because you all only play japanese games ?
I don't want to argue for one standard over the other objectively, because either is fine once you settle into them, but constantly having conflicting standards is super annoying.

Indeed that is what computers are for.trap15 wrote:The real question is why isn't this a system setting yet? Just let people pick which is best, there's already support for both in basically everything.
Only problem is once you have millions of users worldwide you dont wanto update problems, best to avoid all risks.

I was happy to notice that Ketsui did that, when it updated.
I'm don't like the Japanese way, when it come to this.
