Lately it seems more important to wage war on 2D fake girls (heavy handed censorship on PS4 games among other things) while actual child sex rings operate unchecked.

This. Unless the young cast of Cuties are computer animated? If that turned out to be the truth, that would be the ultimate trolling.

Something is haunting me, TO MY WEARY SOULD :O At one point, Protagonist AMY gets into a scuffle with a member of Rival Dance Troupe. The other girl has a good height/weight advantage and batters her, tearing her trousers down and exposing her pantied arse. The camera zooms in eagerly and holds, like Sniffin Joe Biden going for a particularly fragrant head of preteen hair.

Now, far be it from me to suggest the movie's PedoVision™ was anything but the simulation of a PedoViewpoint™, rather than an endorsement - but I'm unsure why this scene plays out so. There is nothing remarkable about the underwear. There is no societal point, like the one allegedly made by the hooker dance numbers. There is not even the shadow of one, like those of FGM, arranged marriage, teen pregnancy and STDs hanging over the film's respective societal extremes.

It's not even comedic. At least I didn't think so. Maybe it's hilarious?

It is my TRVE & HONEST stance that the producers were not pedophilic, or even attention-seeking - just utterly incompetent. Tone-deafness is a fatal flaw for any would-be social commenter, needless to say. You could make this film without PedoVision™ - its observations would remain, but it would not be as explicitly gross, and we would probably not be observing the current shitstorm.

Charitably, maybe this was deliberate attention-getting, but ONRY to raise awareness of an important issue. If that is so, again: a more competent film-maker could have produced an identically troubling picture without resorting to such tawdriness. It's a shit film, not a deliberately titillating one, imo.

Anyhoo, I'm not going to bother speculating any further. I've devoted more than enough thought about this saccharine. I'm just going to continue enjoying the BEEFY HITZ being doled unto Bob Chipman's big dumb face. Image

You guys remember how much many people here hated DeathSmiles's aesthetics when it was announced? I remembered there being a soft ban on anyone empty posting stuff like "loli shit no thanks", so I had to look back for nostalgia's sake. Page 3 has the link to the first derail, were there more than that?

In the grand scheme of things it was so damn mild. When compared to how much some franchises by far push lewding over head pats.

Such uneven execution from a game standpoint. The penultimate stage where you siege the castle is flat out my favorite level in a shmup, for that brief shining moment it's the best of everything a horizontal shooter can be. But every other level is dogshit and makes me wish I was playing anything else - even Kid Kool or Friday the 13th.

I think a part of that is how much they wanted to lower the difficulty for newcomers - and so many of their decisions compounded that. That you can select any stage in any order meant they felt they had to make every one of them flat and unstimulating. That the difficulty slider doesn't do jack to enemy formations meant they'd always exert almost no pressure. The stage and difficulty selection were some of the best ideas they had for the game, but they managed to change something that should have been the game's greatest strength (that would have been accessibility and variance on replaying it later) into a weakness.

wait, were we talking about weird sex stuff in the media again. Christ, don't get me started on Shades of Grey or Harry Potter.

Nothing convinces me that I'm living in a computer simulation full of non-sentient shadow people than the slogan "go woke go broke". It's not enough to fill a twitter fart, and would make for pitiful graffiti.

I know the #resistance needs propaganda and memes to recruit, but I somehow think our capitalist overlords are going to be just fine no matter what particular hollow symbols we worship.

ah, golly, i'd be remiss to visit the forum and not drop into a thread like this for my usual gigantic posts
Blinge wrote:I'm amazed Deadly Premonition 2 came out. I also heard it's been slightly cancelled ? but not really?
Something about transphobia, I don't know, i'll get back to youze when i catch up watching someone else play it because i don't own a switch.
jesus, i am so disconnected that i didn't even hear this one was out lmao. you'd have figured i'd have heard some of the transphobia claims through the grapevine, at least, but nope, nothing. not surprised to hear there's transphobic content given what was in the original, which also had a really bumpy handling of a trans character. what the genuine hell is up with swery's fixation on trans weirdos and their connection to supernatural murder? his understanding of gender is definitely abnormal and somewhat interesting, and i find my mind leading itself to wonder if he's an egg, himself (which i realize i might need to explain - the trans community sometimes refers to peeps who seem yet to realize they might want to transition, themselves, as "eggs," referring to the notion they've yet to hatch). i am frankly kind of "here for" that type of representation, tbh - problematic handling of tranny death cult shit is usually better than the sparkles and rainbows nonsense, and, imho, is more reflective of the extreme alienation and dysphoria of the experience for many.

swery is definitely really sensitive and empathetic, he's maybe just a bit ignorant. bears mentioning he's also somewhat bent over a barrel given that he's absorbing a lot of western media, digesting it, and then trying to replicate it in a sense while also being informed by a very different culture's conception of gender identity, male chauvinism, etc. i haven't played the game so i can't say how bad it is about it, but cancelling someone as much of a sweetie pie as swery seems totally absurd. he definitely didn't mean harm, and as bumpy as the trans character in the original is, you can tell with brazen obviousness that they're not written from a place of hate. same with his fixation on rape allegory, traces of misogyny, etc. - there are unsavory elements to his media but he is trying to communicate something interesting with them. i really doubt that in the last 10 years the dude has suddenly become a shithead. the more well-meaning people we cancel the less "well-meaning" the whole progressive movement becomes, tbh.

i feel like he's a really good example of why dogmatic response to these situations is so fucking vile, and also a case of both cultural and language barrier leading to something being accidentally worse than it was intended. the entitlement people have to the works of creators - especially foreign creators - is frightening. it's also deeply comically reflective of the imperialism the types who are usually most vocal about cancelling someone ostensibly decry! americans always thinking they own everything or get to police the world applies to fucking sjw's, too lol

- - - - -

regarding the she-ra thing: god *damn*. i did actually hear about this one and the situation is so patently absurd it feels like it dips into self-satire. total brain poison to read about and i'm frankly somewhat vague on the details. she-ra as a cartoon, for those who haven't seen it (presumably 99% of this forum), is a weird combination of the sunshine & rainbows progressivism i just mentioned while also having a bit of that problematic darkness in its most compelling character being "an abuser." two of the primary themes of the central couple of the show revolve around forgiveness and loyalty, things you usually see almost villainized by peeps deep into cancel culture brain rot as problematic. i once saw a completely terminal example of this in someone tagging "CW: Forgiveness of an Abusive Character" in a story. CONTENT WARNING: FORGIVENESS. christ!!! christ fucking jesus!!! i was in a discord server and had a mod one time get angry and @ me for playfully dismissing the "abuser" character's bad behavior in an obviously non-serious way. fuck 0__0;;; i guess i was normalizing abuse! man, ain't nobody wanna hang a tranny more than another tranny. i'm never more scared than when in queer spaces lol.

the character who is forgiven for being horrible in she-ra doesn't really do much other than apologize, and her personality and behavior changes almost none whatsoever after the quote unquote "redemption." she doesn't compromise how she behaves or what she believes, she just stops fighting for the side that isn't operating in her interests after a bit of reflection on what her interests actually are. that's like... it's great. she's still authentically herself. no diatribe about her abusive behavior, no weird session where she smooths the folds of her brain to become docile, no indoctrination or invasive testing to make sure she's being honest! it's totally the opposite of what happens in steven universe, which is a show that is frankly akin to propagandist brainwashing. characters in that show radically alter themselves when they're in the wrong and it's seen like it's just this minor thing. the final villain of stevie u - someone responsible for countless births and countless deaths, someone who has existed since time immemorial - is defeated by a really banal conversation and goes from evil dictator of known space to doting silly mother afraid to hurt someone's feelings in the epilogue show. it's insane. this shit doesn't happen and the idea it could or should is both absurd and patently ridiculous to teach to children.

i'm upset to see she-ra creative staff get sunk into the shit over this. the show is definitely wince-inducing about its moralizing from time to time, even outright stupid, but its central relationship focuses on staunch refusal to give up on people who are deemed "too far gone" and acknowledges that staying there for them will get you hurt, but is ultimately worth doing. there's so much about building bridges, respecting differences, and compromising for how your friends behave instead of scanning for culturally acknowledged faults and then ironing them out with the threat of society refusing you as the consequence for not falling in line. i would argue that she-ra, as awkward and ridiculous as it is, does genuinely argue a lot of positions that are counter-culture, whereas something like steven universe positions an alternative culture (akin to what we think of as "cancel culture") and proselytizes it almost nonstop. she-ra genuinely has an iota of belief in a thick skin, a belief that people do give and take and that ironing every corner out of yourself is not only unachievable, but undesirable.

there's definitely a lot of sjw-isms in she-ra, i'm sure noelle has said some dumb shit, and i'm not recommending the show to anyone here, but i do think it's not the best thing to take schadenfreude from given that it's not nearly as entrenched in the types of thinking you'd assume. now, if rebecca sugar were getting eaten alive for her fanbase, i'd grab the popcorn - that's a bitch who would be reaping what she's sown.

- - - - -

and, then, regarding the skullgirls thing: the dude seemed to have been a huge piece of shit and caused massive workplace difficulties and ingrained himself as such an integral part of the company that there was almost no other option. if you're uninformed, a lot of the people working there have since quit in solidarity of what's going on and definitely tried to approach him reasonably for a substantial portion of time before jumping to this. this one ain't an unjust cancelling, it's just a dude getting what's coming to him at a depressing cost. positions of power and privilege do exist and some people do take advantage of them in a way that needs a little forceful dethroning.

- - - - -

i guess also regarding 'it's a drawing': it's a drawing.

Re: MikeZ/ skullgirls.

People paint it as an opportunistic hostile takeover of the studio. I can't rule that out.

As for the people leaving in droves over him being a horrible boss? I can understand that at a basic level. They're re-forming as a new studio, a co-op as I understand it.

The cancelling elements are his shitty BLM joke and the DMs with that titty streamer, the former I can forgive and the latter I would throw out instantly. It's a shame all these are conflated into one story, one character assassination because they shouldn't be.

He's lost everything at this point and I feel bad for him. You don't see real piece of shit bosses and corporates go down like this.

i knew one of the skullgirl devs for a bit and i rly don't think they'd be one to give into pettiness - trust 'em well enough on having thrown in with those against mikez having made the workplace shitty. tbh i hadn't heard about the blm joke or titty streamer thing. i imagine there's a large number of ways in which his privacy is suddenly being split completely open as a dissection that's pretty starkly unfair to anyone. it's definitely a symptom of why even when someone "deserves it" that i think people take umbrage with the culture and why there's almost no nuance on the matter (people are either all for total destruction of "abusers" or against any resemblance of the culture as a rule of thumb). and, you know, i get it. it sucks and it's ridiculous.

The thing is there's now no standard or accepted path to forgiveness, reparation, or even acceptance that people fuck up and often grow out of it.

not everyone is a "bad egg" who gets exposed and then spends the rest of their life doubled down with hatred against the perceived woke culture.

It does seem like cancel culture has become a runaway train of groupthink on twitter that in fact relishes in the exercising of its newfound power.

^ a lot of the culture divide begins with both sides viewing the other side as parasites because the actual villains are obfuscated and/or unreachable. the obscenely rich grow more obscenely rich, the ordinary people get less and less, and those with "some" are villainized by those with "little" because that's all they can reach to grow angry with. meanwhile, cultural institutions grow in power that teach us and our children via school and television that those with the most, like jeff bezos, etc., have quote unquote "earned it" for being successful entrepreneurs... and that people flipping burgers - a grueling 40+ hour a week job that will absolutely ruin your body and drain your being - don't deserve living wages or health care despite breaking their backs to bring you your nuggets. those who can't leave wage slave jobs are seen as spiritually weak or compromised, assumed to be stupid or of poor character, etc. even if they're working harder than you, they're not working smarter. rationalizations begin to flood in as to how your having made it was earned and their not having made it is because they're less than you.

as injustice grows so vast and so far from anything being able to conceivably be done with it, you're left with loads of angry people rationalizing that any blood they can bring is going to make things better because it will at least be enemy blood. the reason you see a lot of cannibalization on the left is because it is filled with the really particularly marginalized - those so far from a secure life that they've begun to see their friends and peers as enemies. like the conservative viewing the poor family as an enemy because they're on welfare paid for by their tax dollars, leftists start to see other leftists who have "made it" as dangerous for not embodying the ideal.

when you grow up badly marginalized, you accrue an incredible contempt for not being accepted, safe, or secure. you know most industries we have are untenable in the long run and fueled by evil, but the scale of society is still so far beyond your comprehension that you need villains. you need villains you can see. you need villains you can hurt, so that you can feel you're making progress. maybe society doesn't accept you not because you're queer, but because there are those among queers making the rest look bad because of x/y/z taboo they take part in. i like to think of the right as viewing themselves as future rich people, but the left viewing themselves as future heroes of society. the right goes through absurd rationalizations to defend structures of wealth because they one day see themselves wealthy, but the left goes through absurd rationalizations to defend structures and behaviors of oppression because they see themselves one day on top of them, deciding who gets to live or die.

so, those on the marginalized left begin to police and harass themselves to make sure they're ready for their promised day. anyone who had made it? evil. anyone who is thinking about making it? evil. anyone who has committed a taboo? evil. they're all against 'the cause.' the cause fails because you've not made sure it's only "good people" (whatever the mother fuck that means) fighting for it. media plays into this narrative by consistently pointing out problem elements, and because you cannot comprehend the scale of the world, you accept the blame of the bad eggs in your group. if only you didn't have bad eggs, who would the pundits point to? eliminate your bad eggs, and you'll be free. it's all brainwashing to keep us killing ourselves. we destroy each other so the structure above us doesn't have to, and we're raised from birth to believe in the structure. the enemy is the culture created, not the individuals within it, but no one knows who has created the culture, we all know it just... must continue to exist. what other choice is there? change - "revolution" - is scarier than the slow grind of societal collapse.

social media was ostensibly meant to enlighten us, but it's kept us even more stupid and able to be herded. we're at peak hyper-awareness of other people's lives, and the beautiful thing about this age of surveillance is that the government doesn't even fucking need to be the ones doing it because we're so eager to find the enemy among ourselves. there no MLK2 because the CIA doesn't even need to think to get involved before we'd have fucked that mother fuck up so bad he kills himself or is tarnished to the point of uselessness by peers. both sides dox each other into oblivion and no one can be forgiven because the weight of incomprehensible evil is placed on the individual. the agency of culture is faceless and impervious, we treat its outgrowths (e.g. corporations and political bodies) as friends who provide us with resources and entertainment. meanwhile, the agency of the exposed individual - and what individual isn't exposed in this new age of information? - is an open book to be treated with the weight of culture. they become culture, they become the enemy, they must die, and they absolutely must not be forgiven, even in death.

we can point fingers at each other until we all die, and, hell, we all might lol, but we can't successfully point fingers at culture, just what we perceive as agents of culture. no one knows how to attack structure, they just know how to identify someone as part of it - it's why blacks historically get shot by cops and trannies get their asses beaten to death, they're considered aberrant elements of society to the point you can see it. and, now that we're in the midst of a depression and the greatest political divide the country has arguably ever seen, you can be a Cis Het Neurotypical White Middle Class Male and still get caught in the crosshairs of being seen as aberrant or evil because whatever, who fucking cares, people just want to get outraged. cancel culture is the outgrowth of nobody knowing how the fuck the world works despite an obvious stratification of the quality of life of those who have made it and those who haven't. it will probably go away whenever things change for the better, but god fucking knows when that's gonna be or what it's gonna take.

I wouldn't call most of the witch hunters "leftists", they're liberals, for the most part. DeRay Mckesson is kind of a caricature of this person - someone invested in developing their own brand, hoping someday to ascend to the career position of Talking Head On Tv. Liberals fanatically defend capitalism and name their podcasts stuff like "Pod Save America". Leftists spam the dying-guy "healthcare pls" image macro and name their podcasts stuff like "Pod Damn America".

Things aren't going to be getting better. There's enormous material pressure in the decades to come that no amount of wishing or political initiatives can prevent... except for maybe China's thorium project. It would be really weird if civilization continues solely because some princeling read an article about an old technology that might help with his smog problem, but completely typical of our species.

Abd Pizzagate is a classic example of cancel culture (rightwing in this case) being counter productive because people are just too goddamn stupid and entertained by novelty. They target their rage at some pizza joint, while Epstein, and his friends Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Bill Clinton etc get off squeaky clean.

I agree that the ''left is eating itself'' over the last few years. And that's really not good for the progressive movement. And I mean the ''real'' progressive movement.

That 3rd paragraph was beautiful, kitten. *italian hand kissing gesture*

eh, i mean i'm speaking on cancel culture at broad, which i used to just call "callout culture." it's rampant within tiny leftist spheres in a way i can speak very intimately about from having been on the inside for ages. have watched rapists (like a few thousand follower academic gamethink queers) call out their victims as sex abusers and get away with it, etc. i tried to counsel a young friend following a callout she received that had completely devastated her social life for over a year. she wound up killing herself, largely because the callout left her feeling she had nowhere to go. i was seriously very close to this person up to her suicide and have watched people who participated in or orchestrated the callout disappear from the public eye because of being wracked by guilt while others continue to participate in the culture with an increased, demented gusto in its necessity.

i've watched it ruin or end lives, i had it dramatically effect where i chose to take mine and the people i'm close to and friends with. it was the biggest driving factor in the loss of a life of someone i had tried desperately to coach through their bpd spirals (and it fucked me up badly). i've been in and out of communities because of it, and seen it drive others to fringe margins. it's no small thing and it's absolutely not exclusive to liberals - it's been rotting the minds of my peers dramatically since around 2012 and is only getting worse. young queers in particular are being powerfully influenced by this kind of thinking and have become vicious culture arbiters harassing artists off the internet.

Liberals in the United States are encouraged to get as mad as possible about rude words and other unimportant things because a class war would threaten the wealthy and powerful while a culture war does not. It's a distraction.

They target their rage at some pizza joint, while Epstein, and his friends Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Bill Clinton etc get off squeaky clean.
Now, I haven't followed pizzagate very closely, but it seems clear to me that Epstein's circle was the underlying truth behind the conspiracy theory. It's also safe to say that the reason the culprits largely got away is not because some people were misdirected towards Comet Ping Pong.

There was zero underlying truth to pizzagate; Epstein was an after-the-fact justification.

Pizzagate was started by Weird Mike, the Kevin Federline-esque ex of a Google lawyer living off alimony who left behind pickup-artistry and reinvented himself as an alt-right internet pest. He had a long-running predilection of accusing anyone who disagreed with him online of being a pedo.

When the John Podesta emails were leaked and proved to be boring, he decided to spice things up by taking boring stuff like them ordering pizzas for the office and saying that it was secret pedophile code. That the pizza joint was secretly a child sex dungeon with a delivery service, and your choice of toppings were code for physical features on the child you wanted. The details were nothing like Epstein's operation.

Then one day an armed nutjob stormed into the place, shot some holes in the walls, but did not find a basement sex dungeon and was arrested. It was a bullshit story that ruined that man's life and seriously damaged a small business who was forced to buy shitloads of security equipment and deal with nonstop death threats for years. You might even say that Comet Ping-Pong was "canceled" by this alt-right shitposter.

Giving credence to bullshit conspiracy theories because of coincidental details with actual crimes only makes it easier for people doing the real shit to get away with it longer because people won't have the patience to sort the real shit from the hokum and tune out. I'm half-convinced the people who offed Epstein started the recent pizzagate-esque conspiracy theory about a furniture store to distract attention.

Edit: Whoops! Why on Earth would I have the brain fart to mix up Kevin Federline with Justin Timberlake?

Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Why America Needs College Football Image
Essentializing college football might help get us through these uncharacteristically difficult times of great isolation, division and uncertainty, Matthew J. Mayhew and Musbah Shaheen contend.

Matthew J. Mayhew apologizes for an article that he recently wrote for Inside Higher Ed and describes beginning a long process of antiracist learning.

Yeah yeah, I know. An alien parasite didn't really explode John Hurt's ribcage. Peter Weller wasn't blasted into convulsing gristle by a wall of buckshot. It's still real to me god dammit. Image
