Hi all, its been a ...lifetime.

Something new i'm working on and hoping to keep as conventional as possible (for once in my life)

It will have a more "platformy"/navigational focus and end of level shops, couple of salvageable euro tropes

graphically im going to try keep the entire thing to under 20 colors, kinda Atari st/Megadrive palette

inspirations are pretty obvious

I love the style, it's beautiful! Definitely keeping my eye on this. Euro tropes are usually best avoided, but I think as long as you're aware of their issues, you can certainly graze them without ruining your game. So that part has me curious too.

new shot types some background pretty gradient-ness...cuz "euro"

Between stages will be a 80's dungeon style 3d mini hub world with a shop, quest counter maybe some casual stuff to fill in the universe (inspired by phantasy star online)

i did a maze kinda thing in my previous game, nauseous pines, so looking forward to revisiting it in a more casual sense >>> Image

Something salvageable and fun from euro game's, i believe is stacking all your powerups, kind like in GODS (best example), how you'd literelly be chucking everything at enemies by the end, bouncing axes, spears, vials of shit. Be empowering to have the various launchers as visible attachments.

~~In the true spirit of euro pub battles, fight vomit with vomit~~

The story will be something like this

A mechanical rockstar (idol :tm: uwu) is made using unethical and secretive entanglement methods, activated shit starts turning up from another dimension summoned by her music
Each stage will have a fully voiced song, themed on the boss

(I tried this last year on previous game, with singing on most the tracks https://soundcloud.com/inthereignoftiberius/immolate )

whats a euro shmup with out an Amiga million color sunset as the focal point (<<<<or its atari st crippled cousin, shown here)

Image

currently reducing/optimizing more colors..........I ideally want 16 colors tbh

Gameplay wise, going get all upgrades (and new levels sold as music tracks) via the shop introducing a little grind. You have options that can help you graze enemies if being passive.

Shops test and some new music sketch

Levels will be pretty fast paced and small, allowing for manageable, fun(?) lite-grinding. You use the currency to access newer "cd's"(levels), upgrades, lives ect.

Introducing "Phanz"

These girls (Phantasy star online's "mag" inspired options) can be leveled up. They are what can fill the graze combo but can also provide additional fire powers (You see these beauties as you load in and they update you on what the level is about.)

Image

They will definitely be bringing the euro by lvl 5, stacking various shot types.

In the lore of the game they are collecting the frequencies of the barrage.

So, some revisions

Shops can be accessed at various points in the level allowing you the option to run and bank the points/cash you have, or you can push on with some risk bonus.

The level are kinda congested with various opportunities for replay grinding/experimenting with how you can graze the combo multiplier.

Also want some kind of fruitmachine, gambling station in the store, as is my tradition :sweats:

Moving development over to the Megadrive

In the process of adapting the music there while the programmer readies up ..pretty damn excited for the music tbh

Some early experiments

The colour palette and artwork is amazing! I'm a huge Genesis/MD fanboy so of course that helps. but you've really run with the concept and doubled down on the MD palettes look which is so cool. gives a huge late '80s/early '90s vibe to the game

Really beautiful stuff

Yeah, not really making a retro game as such, it'll be very contemporary in tone, im approaching it more like a music video

At the mo this only using 1 palette of 4 (just over 16 colors), and i'm not using them all just for the sake of it

music more influenced by Korn and modern djent-ish stuff

obviously no tile considerations in place atm

vid with new fM ost

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRm_54_ ... hendBusker

and yeah, late 80's launch game aesthetic or gtfo

its all WIP atm, but we got what we need to get at least this quality down

Hi,

Had a bit of restructuring (got to start over essentially)

This is running on sega megadrive now.

Image

gonna optimise this down to 2 palettes.

Were gonna take a more troubleshooter/battlemania/cotton route

Whoah dude, this game looks great! That art style is really surreal and uniqe, I really like it and I think it makes your game stand out. The clouds of the second stage look fanstastic! Those enemy designs are top notch too. I'd suggest just a few pallet cycle animation effects here and there if you're up to it. Nice work.

You're going to be making this for actual megadrive hardware? That is rad, but do consider that going down the legacy console hardware route will be more challenging and can slow development time. It's a common development rabbit hole and you seen to already have a fair bit of Gaijin already developed. Just a word of caution that you might want to have familiarity with assembly before you go messing with Genesis development.

Thanks,
Gonna redo most of this @ tile/colordepth limits and also I leveled up with art. Got a few good, ASM time served programmers, i'm only really doing art music and design tbh.

At the moment were just making a bit of a tech demo, see what we can do. Its being made with custom tools, not sgdk.

Whos knows what will come of it, just having some fun.

Ultimately, i can make a construct 2 version though @ rabbit hole.
