Watching that ST playthrough I have decided to buy a Japanese copy once the shipping restrictions ease up..

Maybe I will finish it this time.

Do you have some understanding of Japanese or a way to translate? Though the dialogue is often obscure and rarely helpful, there are more than a few occasions where I think the game would have been incredibly hard to figure out if I hadn't understood the text.

Well, I am watching his entire playthrough. Worst case I can check a guide.

Well, I played some KF2jp last night. I fell asleep IRL while walking forward in the small mine. Came to and I was out of bounds. Just floating above the world
I saw a hidden door with a closed chest behind it!? I got the other chest in small mine.

Anyway when looking for some area I could drop back down in (have no warp yet), it dumped me at that military checkpoint deeper into the game. So I ran back, scared. Burned a Rhombus key to get back, so i hope I haven't soft locked myself.

Couldn't find that bloody door back at small mine.

My thinking for future Mage only play-
Spoiler
Get that fireball, then make a beeline straight for the Jail, get the dragon statue and unlock the red fountain. I'll have to re-look up where I got the first flask or the Jail key because despite doing it last week I've forgotten already.

I don't mean to sound judgmental, and I'm only saying this because I care about you ;) But watching someone else play through Shadow Tower really sounds like the worst possible way to experience that game to me. :\

Yeah to me the biggest appeal of the game was just never knowing what would be around the next corner. The game kept surprising me, and is genuinely freaky at times.

You know, not unlike another From series :D

The odds that I remember much by the time I get the game are pretty low lol. But it would be a good reference point if I got stuck. I dunno From is usually good at conveying how to progress through the game.

The Jumping R2 Gang is back for this cursed cursed playthrough.
Blighttown Episode!

Also later in this session we discovered that Prepare to Die Edition can crash if you try to summon someone whose steam name is longer than the character limit formerly imposed by Windows Live.

YES! I just needed to kill one guard. I recorded this last night. I'm gonna record the whole game and do a heavily edited big boy video about it. I think doing the game magic only is entirely possible. It be easier than melee-only.

Realtalk magic-only Necron took me 5 and a half minutes.

Edit: It is done - Final Boss of King's Field2 magic only.. was intense, and horrific. Nothing really hit him other than wind cutter.

It took 7 minutes, and I had to land 84 wind cutters, with my magic stat at around 104
(yes i counted)

Video in the works.

Haha yep. In my regular practice playthrough, you can bait them towards you by firing spells at thin-air them smack them..

I'd just assumed maybe they absorb spells but also take damage from them?
Nope. In Magic-only they're there constantly, absorbing your shit, zapping your nuts. The damage racks up super quick.
Wind cutter was often quick enough to hit Guyra before they could warp over to his location for the absorb.

Hm. Maybe Fireball or Stone would've worked too but the latter has a longer cooldown. Hell fireball is potentially better cause it moves faster.. but there's the possibility that wind-cutter stays inside Guyra long enough for double hit, if you shoot through his body. It's hard to gauge.

In some old dead argument I insisted Sekiro could be beaten without parrying.
Looks like it can be beaten without blocking too..

I mean, I don't know who would want to but there it is.

Wow, amazing!

btw, is there a FromSoft dedicated community which is balanced more about their old/niche games? besides this thread, ofc

Most souls fan dont give a sh about non-soulsborne FS games, and while armored core still have shattered remains of fandom, KF and other stuff is almost non existant...

Great job on the video, very solid production quality I'll say. And your English is a lot better than mine for some reason.
Man, that game looks so weird played on an emulator. Especially the characters and enemies just look completely different.

I tried looking for one some years back and came out empty handed.
Found two Discord servers that barely see any usages, and at best has a couple of kids doing fan fiction or whatever. The most activity on classic From games I've ever found outside of this thread is a King's Field group on Facebook, which has a few pretty devoted fans, but generally never any real constructive talk.

there was also Sword of Moonlight site/forum, but not sure if users are still active that much. And sadly, when SoM admin visited some AC communities, he was misunderstood (i remember he proposed doing AC fangame on SoM toolkit [KF editor, basically], which was weird idea and he got laughed at kinda)

Ah right, I've got some 4x texture upscaling thing going on that's why.

And without the massive texture warping and the constantly chugging framerate (I recall the entire game playing like the moment where you point out the game struggling with having loaded extra data XD) it's almost like it's a real game.

I can't blame you honestly. Though despite it being a genuinely super-good game, I can't help feeling that its more kusoge-like attributes are an important part of its identity as well. :)

Ahh well upscaling textures on ps1 emus actually makes them warp more

Actually, i couldn't figure out how to stop it playing too fast when emulated. I had to emulate cause i've no way of capturing footage from the ol' PAL ps1 disc I have here. Without the upscaling the game was super sped up.

Yeah, but there is a niche of people/game tourists out there who'll watch KF content, like people apparently checked this stuff out:

No pressure Image It always sticks out to me, with R-Type's use of the term. I think I've seen it in a few other places. For all I know it's rooted in another medium entirely, a bit like how "zako" and "boss" were general gangland terminology long before becoming gaming parlance.

Don't think I ever looked up an official name (if any), but here's 2010 Street Fighter's take on a stationary, passively deadly floating accessory:

I wonder if Genocide (FM-Towns)' similar "Betty" was a play on the term. Image

Another outing for the Jumping R2 Club

Basically... trying to fuck each other over as much as possible, in Sen's Funhouse..

https://youtu.be/ncHV0ozq2dI

In other souls news I did a Sorcery only run of ds1 for funsies.
Damn, the damage is insane! Manus was the only remotely challenging thing.
