There was no slow down whatsoever in the short demo I played of Final 2, and the graphics were really colorful and vibrant. Honestly it just felt like a new R Type to me rather than a continuation of Final. They ought to have distanced themselves from that title given Final doesn't have such a great reputation. Calling it R Type 4 would have generated more hype.

My latin and other smart boi gubbins are rusty/non-existent, but IIRC Delta / Δ = fourth letter of Greek alphabet. Thought that was a cute way of reiterating the series' chronology, with Leo and III existing side by side previously. And the laser-traced " Δ " logo looking sleek as hell. Reminiscent of Rondo marking the tenth original of the Dracula series, and the start of its own deviant sub-series, via a graphic bloody X.

I still think they should've called it R-Type Epsilon, both to recall the better-liked Delta, and to again restate this is a storied series, not a humble nostalgia IP. Also to get away from Final's silly "OMG guys I'm leaving, this is the last time, AH SWEAR, Dobie N The Boyz Farewell Tour 2020: The Last Alien Dicks In Town" conceit. Motherfuckers stop lyin', so what if you ain't nailing groupies in the game center back room and hoovering up mountains of coke like it's 1987, you are not Teh Stones, and accumulated wisdom + lots of quality sleep will only aid your performance! eat some viagras if you're not feeling the old dickmania FFS
heli wrote:With delta i can not get past stage 5.
The first stages are better.
I must disagree heli, stage 5 is where Delta goes "Safe walls? Time for a punch in the balls" and delivers a choking nightmare on pure object placement alone (see also Metal Black's stage 2). It even redeems R-Type III's opening pipety pipes gimmick, making them not a reprieve from boredom, but the worst thing imaginable amidst a sea of floating shite! Also, the ambiguous moans of pleasure/pain amidst a primordial scene of dark, wet flesh are a lot creepier and cooler than Final's boning shadows! (I like the latter's concept but I was surprised at the execution, reminded me of Naked Gun III Image kept expecting a "boing!" and homie to GTFO screaming Image)

"Final 2" is really silly, but at the same time I love odd Japanese titles like this.

I don't think anybody would mind continuity being tossed out in the R-Type series and naming it something else entirely. I never even paid any attention to it until "Final" pushed the idea.

I really don't know why they latched onto Final in particular.

I did, but there is not a whole lot of information there as of this time. There is this letter on their 'news' section, posted one month ago (I haven't checked in a while!).

Dear Our Backers,

Hello.
We are sorry to have kept you waiting for our information update.
As we continue to see the impact of COVID-19 across the world, it also affected us and caused some delays in our development. However, the development of "R-Type Final 2" is still in progress.
We will keep you informed if anything that may significantly affect our development progress happens.

A trial version of R-Type Final 2 will be available for our crowdfunding supporters in the early summer of 2020.
Sorry for the long wait, but we appreciate your patience.

We look forward to your continued support for R-Type Final 2.

Sincerely,

Granzella Inc.

If that's the case, maybe backers just get it first.

I went through all my emails and took a screen shot of my paypal payment for the kickstarter .

Excited for peoples opinions and impressions of the demo

When you get them !

With all the love for delta (it deserves it)!

Is any information about the composers available for final 2?

The music for delta hnnng , stage 1 is funky as shit and stage 2 my favourite, with the air and water transitions are still incredible.

Hoping for something more upbeat for final 2

Final was moody as shit . Which kind of makes sense but ....

I need to give the game a play through with the delta soundtrack playing in the background see if it works.

You can always go to the Kickstarter page and look in the updates tab. When the trial is ready it'll be mentioned there somewhere.

There's been no updates since June fyi. I'm anticipating getting to play the trial. I know that ACSeraph got to play the demo at TGS what seems like forever ago; I'm hoping it's not just the same thing that he played.

A tweet from Granzella said that they are sorry for the delays, but they will be showing off a new build of the game at Tokyo Game Show at the end of the month. Here's to hoping that we get the backer demo at around that time too!

In three months time? I would be very surprised given how little progress they have presented so far. Don't forget they have to also build the stretch goal levels from several of the old R-Type games too. I would rather they take longer and get it right, than do a rush job, personally.

I like that dude's style! :o Image

I'd happily go with Operation Bitter Chocolate over Final 2. If it's not something suavely portentous like Leo or Delta, go weird. R-Type B2B / Operation BYE 2 BYDO: Dobie I Gots This Chicken Soup For Your Motherfuckin Ass. Right from 2003, the "Final" shtick was reductive yet pretentious. The legend never die!

Oh well. As long as it helps the game get made. At least it's not the dog-tired "Evolution" or "Rebirth" Image And the game itself could always prove to have some fuckin bawls. :O

Are you seeing the same game I am? This is even closer to Final than Final was to Delta. Then again, people around here also insist that Delta and Final are not actually a game and its immediate follow-up, but are somehow nothing alike... just laughable.

Final actually has a pretty good reputation among people who aren't from this forum. It is generally favorably compared with Gradius V.

Delta is R-Type IV, obviously.

I can't speak for people (what is it? some kind of brain in a tank? does it have a dick, can it fuck? Image) but I would put the discontinuity more with Final being dishwater dull compared to Delta than any perceived lack of followup, AND ALSO casting itself as some great capstone of the series and genre. Oh hell no. It certainly tries to evoke Delta with that godawful Bydo forest stage (remember when R13 CERBERUS got stuck in a tree?! :O), kind of like it tries to evoke Image Fight with that battleship stage that runs at 5fps. (a clever reference to the M72 board's 57hz refresh rate)

The entire "Final" gimmick is so retarded. You know what's final? Joy Division's Closer. Chap finishes recording and necks himself in his kitchen. Blimey! He wasn't kidding about being fed up! Unless a body has hit the floor immediately post-script, I don't want to hear about "Final," because eventually, there'll be "Final 2" and the whole exercise looks very sophomoric indeed.

To quote that 24 Hours People movie:
This is a low point for me, obviously.
But...
...I think it was Scott FitzgeraId who said:
''American Iives don't have second acts.''
This is Manchester.
We do things differentIy here.
This is the second act.
(Source.)

I for one liked playing Final Fantasy VII and X ("undub" hack of International), so there is a promising tradition to such second-, third- etc.-helping.
