Question about PVM-1353MD, 14L5, and 14M2MDU

Post by c0dehunter »

Hello all,
I am looking for a PVM 14M2MDU, to approximate color match my Amiga 500 system, I really don't need any other features, besides it being an RGB/Comp monitor. The closest model that I have locally found, is the PVM-1353MD.

1) What is the difference between PVM 14M2MDU, and PVM-1353MD?

2) Since I already own a PVM-14L5, is this model better than the two?

3) The reason I ask the above question, is that I am entertaining/contemplating the idea of an *even trade*, between my PVM-14L5, and the PVM-1353MD that this guy has in his possession. Would this be a fair trade for me, or my PVM-14L5 is much better/more expensive unit?

I really appreciate your time, answering my questions!

I think the 14M2 is just the generation after the 135X models.
the 135X line has a couple models that have less features the lower you go (1354 to 1350 I think). 1354 and 14M2 being similar.

I've had both a 1354q and a 14M2U. their picture was very similar. both 600 tvl monitors, both look dyamite for games. I guess the 14M2 could be preferrrable since it's newer. features should be similar but check the brochure for both to be sure of the differences. Pick the one with the tube in best shape, basically.

The 14L5 is a lot more valuable since it's multisync and is 800 TVL, colours a bit more accurate too. I wouldn't do an even trade. If you ever want to get rid of your 14L5, ask for the 1353/14M2 plus a very good chunk of cash. But a good case could be made to hang on to it for it's multisync capabilities.

Personally I like the 600 TVL monitors better for gaming, but there's no denying the L5 is worth a lot more and that multisync capabilities are really useful and sought after. high TVL count is highly sought after too.

14L5's are going for something crazy like $700 on eBay. Even $550+ locally. 14" non-multiformat PVM's go for maybe $250 local but not near the 14L5 price on eBay. Definitely get some cash... but I would personally keep the 14L5 - way more useful for a larger range of resolutions (although it's still pretty small).

Thanks for your comments. Here are some of the images that he took:

Based on the condition, how much do you think it is worth? (please give me dollar amount, like $300,$400 etc.) I know my 14L5 is around $700
Thanks!

With my Sony PVM-14L5, I have to use an additional cable for Sync in to the back port of Amiga 500, does this monitor feature that Sync connector as well?

He's offering $150 cash on top of his 1353MD.

If you mean the ext sync line, then yes, it has that input.

Hmmm, maybe not quite? Up to you, really.

You might think about pulling the metal shell off the 14L5 and having it powerdercoated to match the A500, i guess. Personally i'd stick with the L5 and use it as it is, gives the setup a nice industry/garage vibe :)
