So strapping young (and old) brit boys came out for a patriotic time, to counter-protest BLM and "protect historical landmarks," because god forbid anyone graffitis a statue of Winston Churchill for the millionth time (literally happens all the time).

They end up attacking police and throwing out nazi salutes by that statue, and the cenotaph.

ok lol

then there's this.

I'm so done.

The primary culture there is one of no mods, and making fun of mods in other forums who turn into tin-pot dictators, so no ban-hammers except for the occasional obvious bot. I appreciate having a spot on the net where I can really tear into someone in a truly anonymous way that won't come back to haunt me at work later. But the quality of posters there has dropped sharply in recent years.

Honestly I can't tell if I continue to stick with the site because of the few remaining cool people, or if it's the sunk cost fallacy of all the articles I wrote for the frontpage, so I can't let myself be chased off my own site by drive-by nazis.

I had the same philosophy. Only person I've edited to date was JAPJAC but he also self-edited. It started to get in the land of threats, so had to step in.

Trump's feefee's got a boo-boo: He thinks the Supreme Court rejected the initiative to dismantle DACA because they dislike him, not because it was originally carried out in a bumbling, borked and bastardized manner. (Though their decision doesn't address the legality of the DACA program itself)

He thinks that we need to replace the justices now that they all don't dance to his tune, too.

It's noticeable that Trump's tweets imply that the supreme court decision is all about him.

It's like the 700,000+ Dreamers who were actually affected by this don't even matter to him.

Reminds me of his COVID response, actually.

It's absolutely precious to see conservative pundits suddenly wailing and wringing their hands over how much of what Congress should be doing has been so foolishly outsourced to the other branches, because the legislature is so hopelessly deadlocked...though they never, ever bother to actually finger the hyper-obstructionist cadre, led by Mitch McConnell, who they all previously insisted serve as a completely uncompromising bulwark against Obama's unabashed tyranny (and, of course, shrugging their shoulders about how government just doesn't work)...perhaps most notably of all when they openly stole a Supreme Court seat from him and handed it to...the guy they're currently screaming at for not going their way on gay rights.

So whenever you see Daddy bloviating that he has all the power to do whatever he wants while simultaneously refusing to take a shred of responsibility - especially if he can blame some shadowy James Bond cabal for it - when anything doesn't go quite as planned...sorry, he ain't the source, he's the culmination, and his approval ratings continue to prove that, no matter how much pearl-clutching they try to mug in front of the cameras (when they're not outright fleeing from them ) he's exactly what his party wants and demands, and that ain't gonna change - and might well get worse - even if he gets voted out.

Couldn't think of a better place to link this - a normally paywalled article which I think should probably be compulsory reading. Seriously, just read it and think about it for 10 minutes.

I'm wondering how long the woke politics insanity is going to continue until enough people recognise that it's a vicious toxin which can only end one way. I saw a post from a 'progressive data analysts' group yesterday, where the writer explicity refers to 'black folks' and 'fellow whites' and ... it's astonishing that otherwise intelligent people can't work out what they've got themselves doing.

As for the Trump / Biden thing, I was fairly sure 2 months ago Trump was going to walk it, especially since the Democrats managed to come up with a man who is very obviously 'slowing down' mentally. Not so sure now.

I know I was supposed to read that in an educated Oxford accent, but I couldn't help but hear it in Dave Rubin's goofy voice. Since I literally have heard all those same arguments come from that dunce ever since he branded himself "The Last Liberal!"

Don't conservatives get sick of reading the same article over and over and over again? I'm just scrolling along thinking to myself, "where's the out-of-context MLK quote? Where is it?" and I wasn't disappointed.

But I sincerely thank you for pirating that article. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about the absolutely stupid money these right-wing hacks make for just piecing together the same handful of talking points over and over like refrigerator poetry. Thanks to you, at least he didn't get a penny out of my click.

Depends. Do you think liberalism includes:

1) Cancel culture - including historic data mining then spiteful destruction of the targets life
1a) Censorship - via pressuring of (or control of) platforms, or bullying people into self censoring to avoid 1) above
2) Constructing oppression/priviledge heirachies based on skin colour, gender etc, and encouraging adoption of this thinking within companies, media and governments.
3) Demonising or at minimum entirely dismissing the opinions of people you don't agree with, optionally using 2) above.

The above is a horror show, this is how you create the worst possible outcome.

That's the point of the article, I'd say there's a huge divide between progressivism and liberalism.

Agreed. Cancel culture doesn't align with my values.

There's no chance for redemption. How is that okay?

Cancel culture can also force people into unemployment and financial destitution. It's not okay to throw people out into the street. I didn't realise you had to be likable and in agreement at all times to have a home and food.

This also leads back to the "right to be forgotten" debate. It's not okay to stack up a permanent searchable list of mistakes and transgressions for every human being. Beyond the obvious fact that people deserve a right to grow and move on, the data is applied and weaponised unevenly--and used for convenience to exclude and weed out the "wrong" people. For instance, a well connected and wealthy young person won't suffer the same way a poor person would for identical "transgressions".

Google loves to argue that you should be perfect to begin with. Funny thing, I can't search too much information on the founders of Google. If it's so great, why are they hiding from it?

The king of cancel culture is an alt-right twitter scold by the name of Weird Mike who got pissed when Director James Gunn of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies said negative things about Trump on Twitter, so weird mike combed through his deleted tweets and founds some bad taste old jokes then successfully pressured the Disney Corporation to fire Gunn.

He also got Sam Seder fired from MSNBC over an out-of-context joke tweet after Sam Seder made fun of Weird Mike's disastrous appearance on Info Wars.

Weird Mike is not a liberal.

Whataboutism. The vast majority of this behaviour is from "progressives" and you know it.

No, I'm basing this on manifest observed behaviour - we're now seeing family members of people judged to be wrongthinking heretics being thrown under the bus by their employers (it's probably time for some new employment law to protect people from this). Murray just put it better than I would have.

No, I don't know it. I hate to go all Ben Shapiro, but the facts don't care about your feelings:

I'm sorry, dude, but this Murray guy is making facile arguments I've heard again and again and again from conservatives for years.

He starts the article with wild assertions of fact with no supportive evidence, "[...] as well as dismantling a nonexistent menace (‘imperialism’)" say what? Does he think China's "Belt and Road initiative" in Africa is just for shits and giggles? He trots out Bari Weiss, another "the last liberal," as some champion of free speech, even though her political career began in college where she attempted to get professors fired for saying things critical of Israel (political speech she deemed "incorrect"). He makes childish logical fallacies, "‘Silence is violence’ is one favoured line, meaning that if you do not agree with the radicals, you are perpetrating an act of violence. Naturally this assertion comes from the same people who have spent a lot of time asserting that words (such as ‘mis-gendering’ someone) are violence." And he peppers the description of his political enemies with communist terminology ("cultural revolution, etc.) not because he's arguing that communists are at fault, but just because they're trigger-words he knows will get a cheap emotional response out of his paying conservative audience.

Now I'm going to say something that will blow your mind. Are you sitting down? The left has been criticizing cancel culture for years:

From Mark Fisher's Exiting the Vampire Castle to Contrapoints' epic and entertaining dissection of Cancel Culture.

There's just serious amounts of Oligarch money out there, from the Kochs (Cato Institute, etc.) to the Mercers (Breitbart, etc) to Murdoch (pretty much the entire UK press, etc), to amplify those stories that cast the right as victims. Open your mind, you're being misled. And for fuck's sake, cancel your paid membership to this Murray guy, you can get the exact same arguments for free from righties all over the net, and spend that money more productively on porn.

Semi-relevant, but Brigador Killers development has been thrown into disarray after co-founder and lead artist got cancelled by a "Rhodesian revivalist" white supremacist.

Yeah. And, Harry Potter was written by a woman that I don't agree with on every issue. I'm not going to tell my kids they can't read or watch the stories, though.

Also, why do I still hear Michael Jackson at sporting events while Gary Glitter is banned. Same crime, different punishments.

Difference in convincing evidence stacked against them? (Hearsay from someone that stood to gain billions is not evidence, btw). Admittedly I haven't followed Gary Glitter so closely.
