So I went unconcious tonight. There was no spoon until I managed to invent ways to die on the stage 6 boss. Don't even really feel good about my performance but...

Woah congrats! I was just reading your tweet about the 'unofficial' world record, I liked how you handled it.
Good job taking back the title :O

Was I supposed to put a letter in front of my score? It doesn't have a letter in front of it on the XBOX 360 leaderboards.

Thanks. Congratulations on the world record! Yes, I got to the final boss. Problem is, I'm bored now. And when I'm bored it's harder for me to go "zone". Think it's time to move on. Thanks for the help and encouragement!

Rare score post from me! I have never really stopped playing this silly game. In fact, I have reworked my route for almost every stage and have found a large number of smaller scoring opportunities. A large route change from my previous 25m score is to trigger infinite lives before the stage 3 boss now. However, this makes early game very strict.

Today in the morning, all the efforts have finally paid off and I was able to get a score I'm very satisfied with. Unfortunately, the run had a catastrophic mistake on stage 3 and two smaller mistakes later on. To compensate for this I got the most ridiculous luck ever during the later course of the game. So even with fewer mistakes but also regular luck, my score would've probably looked similar. I'm not entirely sure where to go from here but honestly I don't think about it too much. I will just lean back and enjoy the score for the moment. Taking this game apart bit by bit was an absolute joy. With Pink Sweets I have by far the highest playtime I have ever spent on a single shmup.

I don't know the game, but if you managed to squeeze another million or so out of what was already a WR, then it must be a hell of a score for sure ^^

And additional kudos for keeping on pushing the game after getting on top - after all, playing a shmup is not about defeating someone but rather playing against oneself. You will figure out whether that's the end of the road for you or not quite yet, I guess :)

Btw, your dedication to the game is inspiring. It definitely makes me want to give it a try someday!

Thanks for the sweet words Xer Xian! As I kept finding new strategies and my route was constantly changing I just never felt I had a run that was "complete". This was probably my main motivation to keep going. I'm at a point now where I feel that I probably have found most of the exploits. Can't think of too many other things that could work.

Pink Sweets scoring works on very many different levels and the interplay of the mechanics takes a lot of balancing sometimes. For instance:

1) Do you want to kill enemies with your shot so that they contribute to the zan counter = extra lives trigger OR do you want to kill them with your Rose Cracker = more points?
2) Do you want to suicide graze milk a particular attack, which then also lowers rank OR do you want to keep rank high to rather score from bullet absorption?

...and several similar questions make routing this game a very intriguing task! In a way, it can therefore perhaps be considered similar to routing Ketsui on a high level, although I think that Ketsui is much more extreme in this regard. One of my favorite parts of the game is how flexible rank management is. You constantly go from low rank to max rank and back again. The player has much more control over this in Pink Sweets than in any of the other games by Yagawa.

Scoring with infinite lives also gives the Pink Sweets a very unique feeling in general - for better or worse -, which is surely a polarizing experience. At the very least we can probably agree that its mechanics are unorthodox.

By the way, I have uploaded a replay for my score, so if you are interested, give it a look when you have that 90 minutes to spare! Unfortunately no sound as I was listening to copyrighted music during the stream. To give you a basic idea of how scoring in this game looks like, I'm hoping this video may suffice.

Decided to revisit this after 10 years. I can never reach the stage 5 boss with enough resources to get the big points but otherwise this wasn't too bad. Game over on the final boss.

I've used my 360 more in the past week than in the past 6 or 7 years, glad it still works.

A bit more like it, 64 million x1 from the stage 5 boss.

The stage 3 midboss is such a pain in arrange, he can go off the top of the screen and stop firing, causing you to lose the multiplier. Happened in this run.

Wow! Congrats on getting that top spot so quickly! Impressive stuff for sure.

Just a heads up if you haven't been aware of it: EOJ has kindly uploaded some top replays for Arrange Mode from the Xbox rankings on Youtube for easier accessibility. Find the replay for Lace here.

Thanks, with Lace it's easier to reach the end of stage 5 with enough resources to keep the multiplier going (base value of s5 boss is much higher than the rest), and Lace can score higher generally and is better at uncovering the high value flowers.

Thanks for the link too, I saw a Meidi & Midi replay that EOJ had uploaded not too long ago but I must have missed that Lace one.

Played the two extra modes and cleared both of them without infinite lives. Surprisingly enough, Harder mode is a bit harder than a 2-loop clear of Extended mode!

Arcade - Harder (no infinite lives)
Plasmo - C,132,030 - ALL - Lace - Replay

Arcade - Extended (no infinite lives)
Plasmo - H,834,560 - 2-ALL - Lace - Replay

As a side challenge, I have also no missed Pink Sweets! You can find the replay here.
