You make everyone else be civil to me too and that's not a problem. Rudeness is about a lot more than the words you use. If you're going to employ a double standard, you can fuck off and ban me if you like. I'll try to struggle on somehow.bloodflowers wrote:Be civil or leave. I don't care if you're right or wrong, just stop behaving like a petulant child with the f-bomb on a hotkey.
I don't give a shit if people don't enjoy Raiden 3. Their loss. But I won't sit by and watch some idiot insult my professional competence, and then be painted as the bad guy when I defend myself.

Basically, someone mentioned that he had heard bad things about the game.
You come in and call them "idiots". Okay.
Then someone disagrees with you. Doesn't insult you, doesn't call you names, just disagrees.
Then you sarcastically reply to him, implying that his opinion somehow shouldn't count.
You seem to be unable to engage in a normal discussion, instead you just reply with sarcasm or insult anyone who disagrees with you.

This thread has sadly made my respect for the Retro Gamer magazine drop several notches.
But back on topic: I haven't played the Super NES, PC Engine, Amiga, or DOS ports of Raiden, so I can't say much about those. But my thoughts on the others:
PSX Raiden Project: Obviously the best port of the arcade original. It's too bad that it's so hard to find, as the game is pure joy to play. If you're looking for the most accurate conversion and can't/won't spring for the actual arcade board, this is the one you want.
Genesis Raiden: It's about what you'd expect from a Genesis port. The graphics have changed drastically, but the speed is about right. The general level layout is roughly the same, at least in the first few levels. I really haven't played too far into this one so I can't say much about it.
Atari Jaguar Raiden: The visuals have all been redrawn but the level layouts are all intact. Your ship seems to move a little too slowly, making this one somewhat frustrating during the more intense parts. The soundtrack was also redone with new, but similar, synths. This is my favorite version, but it's definitely not as faithful as the PSX port.
Atari Lynx Raiden: The lack of a soundtrack beyond the title screen brings this one way down. Also, your ship is pretty sluggish so it's very difficult to squeeze by the bullets. Either you miss them by a mile or you're likely dead (this is also due to a huge hitbox). The levels are represented well enough, but the powerup order was changed significantly. In 9 out of 10 games, your first or second powerup will be the "P" thinger that powers you up all the way. This is almost a good thing, since it's the only way you'll be able to get anywhere in the game. The Lynx port is the worst of the those I've played. But honestly, what do you expect for an unofficial release for a very dated handheld?

Well I dunno if you are right or wrong since I have yet to play Raiden 3, but I guess the "idiots" part got people jumping (to your throat).Rev. Stuart Campbell wrote: Sheesh, all I did was point someone to an alternative, positive view of Raiden 3, and within minutes I've got people jumping down my throat.
Disagreeing on stuff or showing other people the (or your) truth can be done without name calling and insulting people.
Otherwise thanks for letting us know that there is more than one side to the Raiden III story...

Re: Original Raiden Question
There is a thread on this from last year you might be interested in checking out.Jac2Mac wrote:Hi guys!
Would anyone care to tell me the differences between the PC Engine, PC Engine CD, Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, and Atari Jaguar versions of the original Raiden?
Also, does anyone remember playing the original Raiden in the arcades when it first came out in 1990 in the US?
Thanks guys!

You seem to have a very high opinion of yourself, and after reading your webpage I'm not exactly sure why. You're from World of Stuart, right? Then I don't know how for example you could assert that Virtua Racing was the inspiration for Auto Modellista without citing a dev journal (as opposed to the Initial D cartoon, which would be what I assumed) and that Virtua Racing was the last serious arcade racing game. I'm not seeing the attention to detail here that would place the articles above most other game journalists. Additionally, supposing you were correct, I don't think it would give you license to act the way you have been on this thread. My problem is loud-mouthed twats telling me I'm wrong when I'm not. I spend a lot of time getting stuff right, because I actually care about it, where most games journalists are happy just to reprint any old wrong crap they find on the web as the truth (cf. any cheat site ever), so it irritates me when some lazy muppet who could find out the facts with 60 seconds of effort if he wanted to thinks it's alright to casually impugn my professional diligence instead.
If you don't know how the Raiden games work, read my definitive guide to them in next month's Retro Gamer. Until then, if you don't know what the hell you're talking about then it's only polite to shut the fuck up.

hmm, guys - from what I gather, bloodflowers banned him. It's pointless to ask him about articles or such, as he cannot reply anymore.
This was a bit drastic (given that in the end he was right this time too, about raiden powerups I mean), but either we get back on topic or the thread might as well be locked.

Being right or wrong is irrelevant. Stuart's potty mouth and inflated self-worth exhausted their comedic potential last episode.Turrican wrote: This was a bit drastic (given that in the end he was right this time too, about raiden powerups I mean), but either we get back on topic or the thread might as well be locked.
Locked? Yeah, all of these threads.

What if the person who pressed something against your head was twice your size and a pro kickboxer. And also carried a baseball bat, while you were naked, bound and gagged?Rev. I am just joking. Let's all forget about this and go look for E3 news.
