Sheeeit Image Heard the rumours, didn't know it'd been confirmed. Excellent timing, been a couple years since I marathonned S1-3. Best TV I've ever seen.

I'm really finding it difficult to find anything that has been so consistent from start to finish. I have full faith that season 4 will deliver.

I guess it's safe to say, unfortunately, we won't see Mr. Wrench. Maybe his dad.

I've been binge-watching a lot of To Catch a Predator and Hansen vs Predator. Chris Hansen is a champion.

Altered Carbon Season 2 (Netflix)

In retrospect, wow does season 1 make a lot more sense in a post-Epstein-"suicide" world.

To sum up, the first season is about how the creation of immortality technology allowed the oligarchy to continue accruing wealth to absolutely absurd degrees. It remains one of the sleaziest shows on Netflix, but now I get that it's a sci-fi exploration of the destructive effects of our growing wealth inequality. The ending that I originally thought was over the top is actually quite apt now that Lolita Island is common knowledge.

The second season, unfortunately, chucks the first season's entire theme and just makes it about the weak sci-fi worldbuilding details that scaffolded the theme in the first season, with a boring and predictable soap opera-y plot, and barely any of the gratuitous nudity of season 1.
Spoiler
It's the Horta episode of Star Trek if they decided the Horta and the Mine foreman were both evil and incinerated them both from orbit.

Queen: Live in Rio, actually watched a couple of months ago on the TV, but I think it still deserves my recommendation. Not as masterful a TV job as Live Aid (I suppose BBC wasn't there that time), but most terrific performance from the band. So, if you wish they had ever released more live albums, or less "edited" live recordings, or just more filmed gigs at all, you could do worse than watch this.

Opinions on Picard? I am not a Trekkie (I am not a "fan" of anything, really), but I am well acquainted with the the franchise. What should I expect?
Chomsky, Buckminster Fuller, Yunus and Glass would have played Battle Garegga, for sure.

Not my place to say, knowing little of Trek and caring less, but FWLIW I've been amused by the ongoing torments of famous hack frauds Rich and Mike at the hands of an even bigger hack fraud, the artless fart-huffing shitbird Alex Kurtzman. Image

When talking about "Picard" the question isn't, "are you a fan of Star Trek," but rather, "are you a fan of Mass Effect 3?"

Took 3 starts to finally embrace this shit show. The animal abuses were bothersome throughout. The lack of teeth, too.

For those who don't know, the Plinkett character started out by reviewing every single Next-Gen Star Trek movie before doing the Star Wars prequels. Worth a watch while we're all stuck in quarantine awaiting the new review with baited breath.

Better Call Saul Season 5

Maybe better than it's forerunner. Quite hard to say.

i watched two episodes of picard before putting it down, it's completely abysmal. patrick stewart's performance was as good as you could possibly hope for, but almost everything else is just... there's so many bad things to say it's not worth the breath. the show is genuinely worse than voyager.

Thanks K. I might try to watch the first episode, but I imagine that watching this out of a now empty sense of "affection" towards the franchise may end up being a terrible experience.

I may post impressions if only to share the pain.

The Star Trek franchise, ever since part 11, has been in the hands of Alex Kurtzman, who made his name as a creative force by writing the scripts for the Transformers movies. If you're affectionate toward a show that once had episodes written by the likes of Harlan Ellison and Richard Matheson, what are the chances that Kurtzman Trek WOULDN'T be a horrible disappointment?

speaking of trek writers, bryan fuller wrote some good ds9 content and some of the few good voyager episodes - this was the initial hook for me to give the hannibal tv show a shot, which quickly became one of my favorite works.

Oh dear, believe it or not but I am so out of touch with TV matters that I probably haven't seen anything related to this franchise since 1998/1999 or so. Only now can I remember that yes, I liked Picard and Data as characters, but generally disliked anything beyond the original run except for the odd episode per season. No, I am actually not a trekkie or even a mild fan of this...stuff.

Thanks a lot, I feel like you saved me from a major trauma, or something to that effect.

Picard was a mediocre TV movie pointlessly extended to ten, hour long installments. Worth mentioning that Picard's Irish-Romulan servants from the fist two episodes never show up again after he leaves earth and the Borg were included for absolutely no reason. Their presence adds nothing to the plot.
It has two saving graces: That, instead of being set in an alternate universe or a 'reimagined' prequel that bears no visual or tonal resemblance to the universe its supposed to be set in, Picard is a geniune attempt at a sequel, picking up story threads from TNG. Also - the story begins with the implication that Data may be brought back from the dead - and if watched with this in mind, the ending is kind of satisfying in a bittersweet sort of way. This story thread is, however, buried under all the stupid Mass Effect rip-off idiotically-high-stakes laundry list of "cool" things the committee who wrote this wanted to force into the story where it didn't fit.

Perhaps the most irritating part (outside of Raffi lecturing Picard about white privilege) is in one of the first episodes. A character mentions that they heard something about a rumoured secret Romulan organisation, even more super-secret than the Tal-Shiar, who hate and want to destroy all androids because they believe they will bring about the destruction of all life in the galaxy. There are no more twist and discoveries after this line, it turns out that this was the entire plot of the show, guessed by Picard's maid.
The biggest unanswered question is where is the money? [1CCS]

Had no clue who Tony Dalton was before this. He's killing it... and it's a seriously high bar. Rhea Seehorn...

If BIL isn't watching this maybe we can entice him with some cartel 'stache.

I'm gonna binge Saul soon, one of these days... sounds killer. My old man loves it, usually a good barometer (got me into Fargo too!). I didn't start watching Breaking Bad until its penultimate season, bad habit of mine.

Gun to my head: not sure if I could choose which of Better Call Saul or Fargo is better. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

EDIT: And your old man sounds pretty hip. Wasn't until after his death that I respected my dad's taste in things. The only thing I recall him watching regularly was Hee Haw. I think he watched Jag as well. Ironically, a friend was an extra. Should have got a signature for him.

The Midnight Gospel (Netflix) - New show by the guy who brought us Adventure Time, this time geared for an older crowd and even more tripped out :D

How to Fix a Drug Scandal (Netflix) - Documentary exposing the misconduct of two chemists who test evidence for the Massachusetts judicial system. Left me speechless and incredibly jaded to see my home state responsible for possibly the worst case of fraud in the history of the United States

Fortunate we’re in a position to choose. It’s rare to have two shows of this caliber airing within months of each other.

The whole season was fantastic, but episodes 8, 9, and 10 really struck a chord
