I found three sold in his feedback, although one didn't turn up for a customer. Who wants to roll the dice :D
Tried one. Never received. Asked for refund.

That's a good point. There is that one customer who did get a cheap GBS which would make me inclined to give them a shot, I never found any feedback from the other cheap sellers...but then you can make up feedback too. Not saying it ain't a gamble!

@Fox Cunning, from this seller?

Not the same seller, sorry I forgot to mention it was "one of the many" and indeed slightly cheaper than that.
I guess some may be exploiting the fact that some people won't bother asking for refund for a few pounds, and then creating new accounts when one gets shut down.

That makes sense and worth being aware of. When I messaged a bunch of 'different' sellers four of them copy and pasted the same message back to me

For now, just assume all these sales at a third of the usual price are fake.
If it's about $13 to $15 or up, it will be fine :)

@Rama Can GBS control read inputs on the physical pcb buttons? I was thinking it would be nice to have the freeze-frame feature on a button, using my phone is a little imprecise. If not, could one be wired up to the ESP8266?

They're not connected by my default build instructions, but sure, that can be done.
You need to ping out the connection and (maybe a little difficult), find a free GPIO on the ESP8266.
Then just read the GPIO (debounce it!), and tie whatever feature you want to it :p

Edit: This should help.

This stuff is way over my head haha. Something like soldering a wire from pin12 (Down button?) to a free GPIO pin on the ESP8266...and then...learn programming T_T

It's a scammer :/
Funny, bought from the same guy. Got nothing but a tracking number that didn't do anything. Got refunded though, not sure what kind of strange scammer this is. Went ahead and ordered from Amazon, got a V3 from 2015. Is that an okay rev or should I return it?

They're all kind of the same, except maybe for the yellow button version.
That one may is missing output filters, and show more jailbars.

That was a quick reply, thanks! Jailbars is not something I look forward to.. which rev should I be looking out for instead, v4/v5?

Edit: sorry misunderstood. You mean the yellow button one is crap so all good :)

This is the issue. And sorry I didn't warn earlier, when this board appeared. I just recently learned about it.

This is my favourite revision, thanks to the video buffer and linear power supply.
It gulps more juice (~4W total), and the video buffer has that quirky charge pump issue, but if those are dealt with, it's great!
The dual output with no dimming of either display is a nice addition.

To deal with the issues:
https://github.com/ramapcsx2/gbs-contro ... l-gbs-8220

Note that the charge pump issue hasn't been investigated fully.
I just slapped a ferrite bead from the parts bin on (plus capacitor), and it solved the wavy image noise that I had.
This really should be done properly one day.

See the below post for a great illustration of the needed mods. It doesnt include th clock gen mod, you'll have to go back further for those pics.

Good stuff, I have a V4 8200 so I'll try those mods too.

By the way, what's the deal with the archery aluminium inserts?

I got these at the same time as the parts I had ordered, in a separate parcel.
Not instead of, but in addition to.

The seller didn't even want them back.

Might this be a genuine inventory mistake? The chat I had with the seller felt like a bot conversation though.

I forgot to mention, but after getting sent Image like so many others, I ended up with a late 2019 model board. Am I correct in that there's not anything particularly essential RE: physical mods aside from adding the WiFi board? I do know about the resistor you twist on/off those two pins near the input depending on if the input is 15kHz or 31 (I don't have anything natively 24, I forget if we need a resistor or not for that stuff), and that ideally I should remove those 3 pots and bridge 'em, but just double checking on any essentials. I'm probably gonna be using a SCART2DVI w/ a DVI-I to 'VGA' dongle for the clean sync input, and that thing is powered by a 5V DC micro USB power supply. What other (if any) voltage should I be feeding the board itself whilst doing that? I have oodles of other barrel jack PSUs to work with. And I'd love to hear other people's opinions on what 'non-essential' mods they've found to be, well, BORDERLINE essential :)

^see the link I posted, 3 posts up.

Use a 5v psu, min. 1A. Do not feed it more than 5v or you risk frying the esp.

Well, the 5V is powering the SCART2DVI. Unsure if the 5V power is passed thru the DVI-I, especially since I'm using a DVI-I to dsub15 dongle. Just clarifying in case you missed that.

There should be no 5V passed through the dsub15 dongle, as it's a somewhat dangerous option.
It won't hurt to check, of course: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

Yeah, I'm fairly certain no power passes through it, DVI-I to dsub15 dongle or not. SCART2DVI is definitely a handy little device, IDK if the Sync Strike allows you to switch the LM1881 between on/off, but the SCART2DVI sure does & has a switchable LPF as well. It's a good deal!

Looking very much forward to getting the wifi board all set up, then proceeding to rock the CFW on my beastly new 34" VGA CRT! It always feels a little redundant, realizing that I use my OSSC's output w/ a Portta HDMI to VGA 90% of the time :p

+5VDC on pin 9 for DDC has been part of the VGA "spec" since the 90s, how is that dangerous?

rama, for sources 240p would not be nice a x1200 preset (x5)? Is that possible?

Great work on GBSControl project.

according to rama - 1080p already pushes TIVA chip limits, so bigger resolution is apparetly not possible.

Fox Cunning, I bought the same item and after many abusive eBay messages I got my money back. What a troll.

on another note,

I have a problem with my gbscontrol where it will not let me save changes/configuration. I get an error pertaining to there being no location to save the configuration to. I followed the steps from the wiki to a T and everything seems to work really well, except no saving. Has anyone else had this ?
thanks
rama wrote: Easy question first: Is your SPIFFS configured?
Yes I triple checked that one when before programming the device. The documentation was quite clear on that bit :)
Thanks for the suggestion though.

I will get it out in a day or two and reprogram it anyway just [to be sure].

Regarding more lines, that may be doable still. The question then is, will it look any good?
My displays all won't work beyond 1080p, so there's that as well :p
