So what is the deal with M2 Shot Triggers? Any new games?

Post by Tokyo-J »

Have not heard anything in quite a bit. Just crickets. Thought they would announce something before Esprade was released.

Anyone word on new games in the series?

i believe they announced that they had some plans to port certain titles over but i don't remember what they said exactly. i can only imagine that the kind of work they do probably takes a while to bear fruit though since it sounds like they do quite a bit of reverse-engineering to make their ports as 100% PCB accurate as possible while still adding in new content.

in this interview (a must-watch IMO), they even say explicitly (~33:22) that they are working on "a few" titles right now for M2 STG. they probably don't want to say exactly what right now.

Their latest release was only a few weeks ago. Give them time.

They did announce their 'plans' to port over every single Toaplan game, so you got that to look forward to (in 2030).

M2 have had an STG release every year since 2016 or no? I think that's pretty good consistency from them.

They've given us 5 Shottriggers in 4 years, plus Sega Ages, Cozmic Collection, Konami Arcade collection, Mega Drive Mini, PCE Mini... plus upcoming Aleste Branch, Ubusuna, Taoplan library, more Shottriggers (we know they've explicitly been working on Batrider but that one might have to wait until PS5).

that's a lot of shmups.

It's all pretty awesome, but does anyone have any word on physical versions of games they already put out? Either through them direct or one of those limited production companies?

At times I double dip with digital version as it's easier to start a game and it helps M2 out with the bottom line, but I can't deny the allure of owning a physical disk/cart...

There's also Mononoke Ninpo Cho, not sure what else has been said about that in the last 2 years.

➤ Toaplan games getting console ports by M2 in 2020

Aside from Aleste Branch, this is probably what's going to happen next.
Even so, I hope they don't ditch further "regular" ShotTriggers releases over this. We still need DoDonPachi and Batrider!

And the Ibaras!

Got to admit I'm only really hanging around for Ibara, Ibara Kuro, Batrider and the Toaplan games. After that I'm taking a break from gaming.

Yeah, where's Donpachi,DodonPachi,Espgaluda,Bakraid, heck even Brave Blade? How about some Takumi games, too?

Why is it the only Espgaluda port is on the PS2 and Japan only?

Would be nice to get their releases on PC, especially since CAVE don't seem to be doing any more ports

I seriously want a good Dodonpachi port. I feel like this game was responsible for getting a huge population of shooting fans into games in the past two decades so I think it would do relatively well. Aside from that, I would also really enjoy Progear, Ibara, and Batrider.

An update on Ubusuna still in development Tidbits from Dengeki PlayStation.Sal Romano Aug 27, 2019 at 4:14 AM EDT50
Ikaruga

The latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation has new information on Ubusuna, the August 2014-announced shoot ’em up for PlayStation 4 from Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga creator Hiroshi Iuchi and developed by M2.

Here are the details:

It has Ikaruga-like attributes, but is different in that vectors are 180 degrees.
While the game currently runs normally, the graphics are incomplete.
The concept of the title is to “show the nature of the creator.”
Development will still take a bit of time.
“Ubusana is finally getting released during the end of the hardware’s lifecycle lol” – A haiku by Hiroshi Iuchi. (A haiku in Japanese, at least.)
Back in November 2018, M2 president Naoki Horii is said, “While [Ubusuna] is in a rough state, it is nearly playable, and we are currently creating assets as best as we can.”

I hope he’s joking when he said the end of the console’s life cycle. Because God knows how long that is.

This year. He clearly meant when we transition from ps4->ps5 xboxone->xboxseriesxonexoneplus

It's a joke. "I finally finished the ps4 game just in time for the ps5 to come out". It's less of an issue with this upcoming generation since they're all saying the old stuff will run on it.

I'm just curious as to what the game has in store for us. It could be the next Ikaruga for all we know.

Well, it’s the closest thing. I’m pretty sure it’s the “third” in the RSG “trilogy” of games.
In Ikaruga, the “stone-like” octahedron is referred to by the name “Ubusunagami Okinokai”
And the title screen of Ubusuna is very reminiscent of Ikaruga... although it could be a place-holder design.

I HATE Limited Run with a passion. That Josh fellow encourages scalping and he supports the Metal Jesus crew on YouTube. I rather see M2 finally give Sorcer Striker a digital release in North America at least.
Keeping your games sealed is like keeping your ass sealed when you have to take a number 2. Not natural.
