I was wondering which version I should try playing? PS2 seems to be the most affordable (besides MAME), but I'd like something that plays as close to the arcade as possible.

PS2 version is definitely better than the 360 one, it's pretty much a perfect port, with an excellent training mode (which the 360 doesn't have).

Let's go! This is survival attempt, currently I practiced second loop better than first. I will try to score more.

mrmccormo, thanks! I want that clear and I will play more and more until I'll get 2-ALL! Of course more attempts means better scoring.

Hello, Feedbacker! It's been a while, since the last time! I just wanted to drop by to come submit the score of my 1st ever 2-ALL of DOJWL! :D

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VioletHatPurple - 1,271,629,720 - A-E - 2-ALL - 3131 Hit

Video of my 1st ever 2-ALL of DOJWL! =D

ShmupMAME 4.2 INP file
ShmupMAME 4.2 NVRAM file

Screenshot below:
Spoiler
Image
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Indeed, this is my 1st ever 2-ALL of DOJWL! Me playing just DOJWL, and only DOJWL, from the time period of July 3rd, 2018 to Dec. 27th, 2019 (It was the only STG/Shmup game I've been playing through this whole time period I mentioned about just now) and what is at least several hundreds of hours worth of playing DOJWL led to this moment! :D I didn't think I'd get the DOJWL 2-ALL before the end of 2019, but I managed to! :)

Where do I start in explaining why I haven't logged in here since July 3rd, 2018... I guess we can start off by me saying this... In-case you all were wondering where was I between the time of July 3rd, 2018 to Dec. 27th, 2019, well, in-short, I was playing DoDonPachi DaiOuJou White Label. I didn't want to post anything about it here until I got my 1st ever 2-ALL of DOJWL, so that's why.

I know I said this same thing in my YouTube description of my 1st ever 2-ALL of DOJWL, but, eh, I'll say it here, since I still feel the same way myself about it, so I guess I'll just copy & paste it, haha... :P

A couple things about this run, without spoiling too much… I died to something very silly on the stage 1-2 boss, but I decided to keep going with the run, since I didn’t feel like restarting there.

The 2nd loop went really well, I have to say! This run marks the 5th time I managed to No Miss stages 2-1, 2-2, 2-3 & 2-4 in a full run of DOJWL! It was a bit of a shame, though, that I dropped the hit chain a couple times in stage 2-4 due to nerves. I lost a good bit of score that didn’t have to be lost (I would have gotten 1.3+ Billion in this run, if not for that), but oh well.

Also, I couldn’t believe I managed to full chain stage 2-5 with just 2 hypers at the very beginning of the stage. Also, whew, that Hibachi fight was pretty bonkers, considering that wasn’t the ideal scenario I had in-mind when I got to her!

Those are a few things I can say about the run without spoiling too much.

Thank you, OmKol! :D I know I already mentioned a lot about how much effort it took for me to finally get my 1st ever 2-ALL of DOJWL, as well as me mentioning that there were sacrifices I had to do in order for me to focus on getting the DOJWL 2-ALL (To name one thing, I had to temporarily put off plans to play other games until I get the DOJWL 2-ALL), so I guess that doesn't have to be said again. Let's just say, in the long run, it was totally worth it! :)

Also... Sorry to ask this out of you, but to tell you, I'd prefer that you call me Purple or VioletHatPurple, if I must say so myself. In more-or-less every other place, I go by VioletHatPurple or Purple. It's really mostly just here, that I'm still called, well, PurpleTheGuy (To tell you honestly, I'm not too fond of the name I go by here & haven't been for at least a few years now). You did nothing wrong at all, it's just... Again, I'm not very fond of the username you see me here as, let's just put it that way... I just thought I'd also mention that, as well. I hope that you understand. :)
OmKol wrote:No PBs from me because I had busy with La Calice for two months but I'm going to continue my attempts now!
Yeah, I heard about the La Calice Cup Tournament that happened back at November of this year. That looked like a lot of fun, as with all the STG Tourneys that I've seen, heard about & read about. I'd love to enter into one of those STG Tourneys sometime, especially since I now have my 1st ever DOJWL 2-ALL & all! :)

Again, as I said to you before in another place, I wish you all the best in getting the DOJWL 2-ALL yourself, OmKol! =D I know you're close to getting it! =)

Thank you, Feedbacker & CloudyMusic! :D

You know, if I had to admit, the reason I didn't post my scoring progress here (I did talk about it on my Twitter account, though) is because I sensed from this game, that there's a much stronger chance, that the score of my 1st ever 2-ALL may very well be lower than my actual highest score, and for this particular game, if that were to happen, that, say, if I were to post my actual highest score, and then my 1st ever 2-ALL score is lower than that, then I face some real problems associated with that, considering how much time I spent playing DOJWL (Again, I think I played it for several hundred hours on it, maybe, I don't know, at least close to 800+ hours or so for all I know) and how I basically played no other STG/Shmup other than DOJWL from July 3rd, 2018 to Dec. 27th, 2019.

To name a couple reasons for that... You see, as fun as DOJWL is to me, especially when you learn all about how to score in it, I really did want to give the game a rest the moment I got my 1st ever 2-ALL out of it that gets at least at/over 1+ Billion and gets a max hit chain of least 3000+ in stage 1-5, since I've been playing just DOJWL for so long and, well, there's other STG/Shmup games that I really do want to play that I had no choice but to put off for so long in order to focus on the DOJWL 2-ALL that I can now finally play, now that the DOJWL 2-ALL is done on my end.

That being said, it's not to say that my time with DOJWL isn't over yet. I do want to come back to the game sometime and shoot for another 2-ALL that gets a higher score, like, say, for instance, higher than my actual highest score. :) It's just... for now, I just want to take a break from DOJWL for a bit and play other games.

Lastly, indeed, I do have a few things in-mind, concerning other games. You'll get to see what I got cooking soon enough, as they come.

It's been a bit more than 2 years since I got my 1st ever 2-ALL of DOJBL (This was back at Jan. 29th, 2018) and I haven't really touched back on it ever since (I do intend to, just, it's not yet time for me to do so), so I'd be a bit rusty in recalling to you the details of how I did the full chain of stage 2-2 in DOJBL back when I was actively playing it from April 2017 (I think I first learned how to do the DOJBL stage 2-2 chain back at early September 2017) to January 2018.

I do, however, have a couple videos lying around that I can share with you that I believe can point you in the right direction in how to improve your stage 2-2 full chain in DOJBL. I was gonna mean to re-upload these two videos of mines, but I never got around to doing that, so I'll just share them with you here like this:

DoDonPachi DaiOuJou Black Label - Stage 2-2 Full Chain (Start w/ 4 hypers)

DoDonPachi DaiOuJou Black Label - Stage 2-2 Full Chain (If 2-1 Boss backup strat was used)

I hope these two videos of mine point you in the right direction in how you can improve your stage 2-2 full chain in DOJBL, DaringSpino34! :)

By the way, sorry for the very late response back to you all. It's been quite busy on my end since mid-January of this year.

No idea how to chain. Don't understand why the little yellow hyper thing pops out in boss fights sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. Also, I know there's some "hyper trick" for the stage 4 boss, but I don't know what to do. Can anyone help me out?

The hyper drops during boss fights when your bomb stock is empty. If you fill up the hyper gauge with still at least 1 bomb in stock you'll get a bullet cancel and the hyper medal will drop at the start of the next stage. As for chaining, it requires strict routing i.e. knowing the position of all ennemies and what weapon to use for each situation (laser or shot). I recommend you to watch Pazzy's annoted runs, it should answer all your questions about the scoring tricks.

Thanks for the help! Come to the conclusion I'm never gonna be able to chain (unless I spend a couple years with the game maybe). Thinking there's probably less than 30 people in the world who can chain this game with that ship and shot type. Daifukatsu makes perfect sense now.

I was in Miami on business and I went to Arcade Odyssey to play their Armed Police Batrider in a sweet candy cab... they informed me when I got there that they took out the batrider pcb, but that they had a similar game... I cut him off to tell him Daioujou was not a similar game... anyways, since I was there and I had already cashed in 20 dollars worth of tokens I sat down and played daioujou for the first time. It was fun, but was not batrider...

Apparently even though they have some really cool games, everyone still just plays street fighter 2... :( anyways, since no one had played Daioujou today, I was able to get rank 1 high score on the machine with minimal effort, because there were no other human player scores. I will revel in the only time I will ever top a scoreboard... suck it Miami for not having my precious batrider...

Didn't break my high score, but I just put a 70 Mill score on the XBOX 360 leaderboards.

SchoBoogie777

#9 on this High Score Thread

#37 on the XBOX 360 Leaderboards

Told myself I'd probably quit once I put a decent score on the XBOX 360 Leaderboards. I know this is one of the world class players' favorite SHMUPS, but I really don't care for it. Chaining mechanic is ridiculous and stage 3 is a complete mess (feel like I'm playing Space Invaders) . The controls for the Xbox 360 port are not tight at all (Daifukatsu is WAY tighter). I'm playing on a stock XBOX 360 pad and when I tap left or right, I jump halfway across the screen . Second half of Stage 2, Stage 4 and Stage 5 are all superb. Hard, but superb.

I really applaud anyone who can chain this game. You guys truly are savants . See you around.

Back on the BL practice (PS2 ver). My daily score is hovering around 80-100m, stage 4-5 is when I bail. I'm doing separate practice on Stage 5 but otherwise trying to get consistent on the full performance instead of nibbling at individual stages.
