I'm taking over from the previous thread maintained by Thunder Force. The game rules from his thread will be quoted verbatim below.

RULES:
- For equal standing, you must play using the specified settings below for each scoreboard.
- And you must specify stage reached, and what console/emulator you are playing on (or PCB).
- So please don't submit old scores where these settings were not clear.

GALAGA:
-> Extend settings must be 20k, then 70k, then every 70k.
-> Use of Galaga "no shoot glitch" is banned, obviously.

Code: Select all

I've tried to include any updates from the old thread TF didn't get around to. Let me know if I missed one.

Also, I don't follow MAME too closely. Is there still an issue with Arrangement '95?

It seemed okay to me in newer MAMEs, but I probably don't know better.

Vote for tossing in Galaxian and Galaga Legions/DX tables and calling this "Galaxian & Galaga series", not sure about Galaga: Destination Earth; there's also a Galaga Remix for the Wii and a Galaga Remix for the iPhone (it's supposed to be a port of Galaga '05 but of how much?). Also vote for splitting arcade and PC Engine Galaga '88, and banning certain ports such as GBA Namco 50th. Not sure what to do about iPhone Galaga 30th.

This is why I tend to prefer each game and release having its own thread. :V

GALAGA ARRANGEMENT ('05):
tinotormed - 583,050 - ALL - PSP
https://twitter.com/tinotormed/status/2 ... to/1/large

Updated my score one year later! Managed to not lose too many lives up to the last stage, as the final boss keeps distracting me from taking down the popcorn enemies for score.

Btw, the run is recorded using my Sony Cybershot DSC-S1900 Camera with proper filter adjustment, so it will be uploaded on YouTube.

EDIT: Video is up.

Kollision - 677,520 - ALL (2-29) - PS2

Yes, I know I'm lame.
I was losing my patience and didn't want to end up hating the game, so I took the easy way out.

ROBERT TEPPER WAS WRONG

EDIT: the default difficulty in this PS2 version is 1. I switched to difficulty 3 because that's the equivalent to the arcade, as per what I could compare from MAME.

Galaga '88 / PC Engine

Kollision - 1,271,720 - ALL (4-29)

Zach, you should split the Galaga 88 board because obviously the PC Engine version is very different from the arcade.

For instance, it's got only 4 dimensions (instead of 5) and it doesn't kick you into the 2nd dimension after stage 10.
First mini-boss also changes depending on the dimension you're in.
Challengin levels are a lot easier, as well as the game itself.

Oh yeah, Galaga '88 PCE needs a split, we need boards for the Legions, and we could use a Galaxian board. I'd also say something about King&Balloon but we somehow have a board for that.

Pretty satisfied with this result for I am terrible at fixed shooters.

Goddamit, Kollision! Couldn't you have lost one life more or something?

I chickened out as well, higher dimensions are devious. Forget Battle Garegga, high scoring strategies on the fifth dimension in Galaga '88 is where it's at!

Aw yeah, first place in PCE Galaga '88! Still miles away from an ideal run, but I did get at least some scoring to work in this run although I started to fire indiscriminately in the last few stages. I should try to clear the arcade game on a higher dimension at some point in time, such a fantastic game.

Played on player 2 side to display scores higher than 999,990. Not sure if 1m+ would count, or if it would just go on the board as 999,990+α, or whatever.
