UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
Anyone else using a UltraHDMI modded N64 with a HDMI switcher ? Mine is not working at all. It only works when plugged directly into the TV.
I have several other systems plugged into said HDMI switcher (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, HiDef Nes, framemeister...) and they all work fine.
Any settings I should be turning on (or off) in the UltraHDMI menus ? Maybe the cable/mini to HDMI adapter are too cheap ? Any other suggestions?
TV is Sony x690E and switcher is a powered Monoprice 8x1 HRM-2218F.

Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
I’ve tried the UltraHDMI with a HDMI signal splitter : It won’t work.
I’m thinking it’s either the cable or the system itself.

Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
I have some vague memory about one of the pins for CEC being wired wrong on the ultra hdmi. I think it was fixed in a later revision. You may be able to cut a trace on the board to fix it iirc
Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
Yeah, I saw that, but I have a newer version, not affected by that problem.
I’m waiting for a new mini HDMI to HDMI cable, better quality that my actual one.

Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
Mine is going into one of these with no issues
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B011KR ... ref=plSrch
I’ve had it nearly 2 years at this point so I believe it’s an early revision of the ultra hdmi and I don’t have a flash cart so have never updated the firmware.

Mines going through this - http://www.aten.com/au/en/products/prof ... ss0hIjwYuU
Works fine, The one issue I had was that it sometimes auto switches to the N64 even if the N64 is only on at the wall but not powered on.
The output of that switch goes to an 8 way splitter too, no issues.

Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
I think the issue was that there's an ESD protection diode on the CEC line, causing it to interact poorly with other HDMI devices plugged into the same TV/switch. It's fixable, but requires severing the CEC trace.maxtherabbit wrote:I have some vague memory about one of the pins for CEC being wired wrong on the ultra hdmi. I have the same switch sold under a different name https://www.amazon.com/Kinivo-501BN-Pre ... B0049SCB2Y and it doesn't work with my UltraHDMI, which I'm pretty sure is an earlier revision. Somewhat annoying, because it works with all my other HDMI devices, even my GBA HDMI prototype.EnragedWhale wrote:Mine is going into one of these with no issues

Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
I got a different cable, no big surprise, it didn’t change anything.
Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
I have same problem with my UltraHDMI from the latest batch. I have tried it with 2 different HDMI switches (one being Kinivo 501BN) and many different HDMI cords but it doesn't work. TV just tells me that the signal format is incorrect. Other HDMI devices like Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and OSSC plugged into same switches work great.
Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
Try setting the output to 480p.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t change anything.strayan wrote:Try setting the output to 480p.
Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
Well well well ! Great news !
I got a new switcher, which claims HDCP 2.2, 4K 60Hz compliance... and it works!
This one is also from Monoprice Blackbird 4K pro.

Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
Friend and I each have an UltraHDMI (mine is from an older batch, his on the most recent one), and we have the exact same HDMI switch (ordered together at the same time in the same shipment).
Mine works through the switch with no issues, his won't work through the switch (this one) and has to be connected directly.

Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
I recently changed to this HDMI switch - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01HIPVY8G/
Everything worked with it, except, you guessed it, the HDMI modded N64.
Luckily I was able to fix the problem by adding a DR HDMI to the N64s output - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00755DBCW/ ... W52542907/
This solved the problem now it works fine.

I tried the DR. HDMI myself but it failed to solve the problem. I’m curious to see what settings you used for it to work?BuckoA51 wrote:...Luckily I was able to fix the problem by adding a DR HDMI to the N64s output - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00755DBCW/ ... W52542907/

Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
Hi
Can you please link the splitter you bought?
Many thanks

Only just noticed this but just in case anyone was wondering, no special settings are required, just plug the Dr HDMI in and go.I tried the DR. HDMI myself but it failed to solve the problem. I’m curious to see what settings you used for it to work?

Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
This is an old thread but just saw it now, but thought I would add that I have my Ultra HDMI going through a monoprice 8x1 hdmi switch no problem, and it was going into an older kinovo 5x1 before that. My UltraHDMI board is from hmmm early 2016.

Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
Similarly, I'm using one of the SGEYR 4K60 5x1 switchers recommended by DirkSwizzler, and I've not had any problems switching between an UltraHDMI with fw 1.08, DCHDMI with latest fw, Xbox 360, and OSSC.
Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
DCHDMI seems fine but I had to use Dr HDMI with both Wiidual and GCDual before my HDMI matrix would recognise them. Matrix is the 16 x 16 "no hassle" AV (lol) model.

I’m still looking for an affordable 8x1 switch which would work with my N64. I haven’t been looking into this recently.
Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
I realize this is an old thread, but hopefully this will be helpful to someone to know that I just now solved the problem simply by using a “better quality” HDMI cable.
Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
Even without the switcher I've always found mine a little temperamental - Quite often the picture will dip in and out of black screen during play, and on occasion will not recover from the black screen until I unplug the HDMI cable and fiddle about (I've also tried several cables). This could be an exclusive fault with my console though, maybe the mod has been fitted incorrectly and something is loose, but its long too late to send it back to the guy I bought it from now.
I've since got a CRT set up and it has crossed my mind to sell the console (obviously with full disclosure of the problems and price reduction) and just put some of the money towards a standard N64, I keep thinking I might "need" the UltraHDMI in the future though (even though it's rare I play any N64 these days if I'm honest) and never get around to it.

Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
It still gives me some issues and the problem is, most likely, the HDMI cable. The sound sometimes won’t go through the switch, but if I move the cable (away from other cables) it works... electromagnetic interference maybe... that’s odd.Finey00 wrote:I realize this is an old thread, but hopefully this will be helpful to someone to know that I just now solved the problem simply by using a “better quality” HDMI cable.
Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
After testing this issue I believe I have found a solution. It’s not a problem with cec, but with edid. It’s reporting itself and it’s resolution incorrectly sometimes. I found that plugged directly into my pioneer receiver (which is hooked to the tv) the ultrahdmi works normally. However when hooked through an hdmi switch, I’d randomly see a black screen or have no audio. This box solves the edid issue and let’s the ultrahdmi report as whatever you set the box to.

Re: UltraHDMI with HDMI switch problem
I am having the same issues - both UltraHDMI and n64digital consoles will not display on my very standard NEC 1600x1200 monitor.
I attempted to fix this with an EDID emulator - the Extron EDID 101H 4K - but none of the configurable resolution choices are 4:3 or 1600x1200 ...
The same is true of the EDID Manager from Amazon that Gabeshack posted a link to:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QL78BDH/
... none of the listed resolutions are 4:3.
Am I doing something weird trying to output UltraHDMI to an actual 4:3 monitor ? I thought that was the point ...
ALSO, isn't this something that UltraHDMI firmware could fix ? Couldn't he set an EDID so we don't have to inject it ?
Thanks.
