Can't help, sorry. But curious, what is your personal issue w/ Steam?
Re: Super Hydorah
DRM. MathU is right, but he rarely posts anything else, so some people here get pissed from his posts.bigbadboaz wrote:Can't help, sorry. But curious, what is your personal issue w/ Steam?

Well, if soprano1 is right and you hate Steam to the point of not buying the game if it's only available there, the option would be to download a pirated version and send the money directly to Locomalito.MathU wrote:Hello? Re: Super Hydorah
The PS Vita port of Super Hydorah is a mere 186mb d/l at best & even has an option for scanlines if so desired. On the USA region Vita PS Store site, you have to manually type in "Super Hydorah" (within the search link) to be able buy it for the PS Vita platform with a $19.99 USD pricetag. Looks and plays awesome on a 1st gen OLED Vita setup.

Now does this "come with" a Steam key or only contain a Steam key?

Super Hydorah works without the Steam client and is playable in offline mode.

Re: Super Hydorah
I bought for Vita which also gives the PS4 version (cross-buy). So far I enjoy playing on the Vita more because it's so much fun on a handheld. Versions are identical. Scanlines on Vita is amazing.
Re: Super Hydorah
Has anybody who has purchased Super Hydorah on PS4 messed with the options? I was just wondering if the game has an option to turn off the "micro acceleration" feature. And if so, do the controls feel very different or almost the same with the different options?
Looking forward to trying this game but don't want such a tiny detail messing up the fun.

Re: Super Hydorah
Strange, not a lot of talk about the Super version, considering how people would go on about it when the original version came out.
LRG version got here today, had a quick play and damn - I need that PS4 compatible arcade stick ASAP (have Dariusburt and Garegga sitting around too...). I can't control crap with the stock D-pad, and keep just flying straight into stray bullets.
The "microacceleration" stuff isn't helping either. At first I thought it was just an added affect of me trying to fumble with a control method I'm not familiar with for this genre, but after seeing the stuff posted in this thread, it makes sense to me. Doesn't really feel like an improvement at all, for obvious reasons.

Re: Super Hydorah
Strangely, I've barely noticed the micro-acceleration so far. Player movement vs enemy/projectile movement is almost identical to the original game. Not totally sure if it fixes the diagonal issue yet. Using keyboard, if that matters.
That Forgotten Lab stage is totally nuts.

Non stick alternative that I think is a must buy for anyone playing a lot of 2D games on PS3/4:Sumez wrote:Strange, not a lot of talk about the Super version, considering how people would go on about it when the original version came out.

Re: Super Hydorah
Looks good, but I gotta get a stick, just a cheap one with easily replacable parts. Super Hydorah made me realise that I cannot play shooters with a D-pad The second stage boss's super easy laser pattern gets turned into a complete gamble with the standard controller.
Re: Super Hydorah
Get a Brook adapter and just use your old 360 sticks. I've got the PS2/PS4 one and it works great.
Might pick this up at some point. Looks the part, but maybe a bit slow for my tastes.

Re: Super Hydorah
I've looked for those, but they seem to be way more expensive than getting a cheap stick.

Didn't see this answered yet: as far as I could tell when I bought it, the itch.io version only has a Steam key. No option to download a DRM free version.MathU wrote:Now does this "come with" a Steam key or only contain a Steam key?
Re: Super Hydorah
The PS2 one was £25 off ebay. I thought it was worth it because it was cheaper than building another Seimitsu stick and I've got one if those PS2 Saturn pads. The 360 ones are a bit more expensive though.Sumez wrote:I've looked for those, but they seem to be way more expensive than getting a cheap stick.

Re: Super Hydorah
Yeah, the PS2-> ones are significantly cheaper than all the rest (also significantly different-looking). If you have access to anything PS2 you should definitely look into them.
Re: Super Hydorah
Finally got my LRG PS4 special edition release in the mail the other day, but haven't cracked the plastic yet. I'm going to save that for a pickups video. I enjoyed playing the original Hydorah freeware version on PC, however, so I'm looking forward to this one, once I can squeeze it into the schedule.
Re: Super Hydorah
Anyone tried the ios version? Kind of tempted by it even though I have it on PS4.

At this rate, I won’t be interested into shmups anymore. I am no longer going to be active in this forum from now on. I am more interested into Kemono Friends, rhythm games, D4DJ, Puzzle Games, Hololive, and Pretty Cure.
Farewell.

Re: Super Hydorah
ugh. iOS 11 or later.
Re: Super Hydorah
I have recently discovered a score run by a Japanese player who extensively milked the last stage, nailing over 1 million points. Also, when equipping light, each power obtained nets 2000 points. Finally, the true hero ending replaces the explicit video game references with works that are developed by locomalito to avoid potential copyright infringement. The true hero ending in Hydorah is the original version as freeware that contained explicit video game icons as inspirations.

Keep in mind that Super Hydorah AC for Exa Arcadia will have instant re-spawns, which render checkpoint milking obsolete. Scoring is now simply based on survival with few to no hits possible, in addition to blasting enemy forces, collecting items, and discovering secret spots.

Re: Super Hydorah
I've noticed it on more than one occasion, seems to manifest itself more when trying to circle-dodge, it's quite off-putting at times.Despatche wrote:Strangely, I've barely noticed the micro-acceleration so far. Arms installation complete Good luck
Re: Super Hydorah
Green and Red bars are power-up levels, with green being primary and red secondary weapons. You can pick them up 10 times to power up, and level up every 5 pickups. When player ship is destroyed, 3 units are lost on green and red. Effectively, Level 0 ranges from 0-4 pickups, Level 1 5-9 pickups, Level 2 at 10 pickups.Axelay wrote:Playing the game on the switch it is currently on sale .

I hope that helps.
Anyways, I look forward to seeing new balance changes for the Exa Arcadia version. The only preview ever glimpsed extensively is the Mikado Exa Arcadia Super Hydorah AC prototype build from January/February 2018.
