Re: New Saturn ODE by Ced
Really nice to have options. Would be great to have more info on install requirements, etc.
I wonder if this will end up being available before the Satiator.

Omg, it would be *killer* if he did it with just the ESP32!
I'm sure an ODE for either the PSX or the Saturn (and similar age disk consoles) is doable with the ESP32.
This $3 module will one day beat all the FPGA solutions! Will this be the first?

Wow, just looked up ESP32s they're really cheaprama wrote:Omg, it would be *killer* if he did it with just the ESP32!

Gunstar:
Well, the final consumer cost would be in the wizardry of poking the ESP32 registers just right, aka the software.
Scraping together the required knowledge from all the available partial sources and spotty documentation, that's the hard part.
But if the programmer does that and is inventive, the ESP modules can be amazing.

Fantastic! Glad to have options, especially with the way the Rhea/Phoebe pre-orders are handled.
And if it's cheaper, sweet!

You're right, don't want to undermine the hard work that goes into the software side and the value that has.rama wrote:Gunstar:

Ceb confirmed it's all emulated on the ESP32!

That's so impressive!Gunstar wrote:Ceb confirmed it's all emulated on the ESP32!
Up there with the ESP32 VGA or ESP32 games console projects, really.
Oh and I want it for my 4 dead-drive Saturns.. One for each please
Re: New Saturn ODE by Ced
I'm definitely on board with these, if they will be widely available, and won't cost an arm and a leg.
Re: New Saturn ODE by Ced
I just want something with support for the redump set and a halfway decent gui that I can order in under 7 months without needing to be available to place my order within 30 seconds of the sale going live.

You can set this app to monitor text on a web page and make an alarm go off when it changes.
Set it for the text "Preorders are currently closed"
The second he opens shop you will know.
Re: New Saturn ODE by Ced
Missed the chance to call it "Mundilfari"
In all seriousness though, this sounds great so far and it's always nice to have more options!

Re: New Saturn ODE by Ced
I managed to order one for myself and 2 for other people over the years (sold them at cost to people that appreciated them). My point is it is bullshit.Syntax wrote:Sigh....Wolf_ wrote:I just want something with support for the redump set and a halfway decent gui that I can order in under 7 months without needing to be available to place my order within 30 seconds of the sale going live.

I really hope this get open sourced in the future after he makes money off a few runs.

50 pieces, not euros. I assume the price will be the same as the 1st batch, 80 euro.Gunstar wrote:Looks like this is finished. A small release of 5 has been made available for purchase. Next batch estimated for the end of January which is targeting a very reasonable Euro 50 (no mention of shipping)
My sales thread : 2020/07/20..MASTER.VER.
Re: New Saturn ODE by Ced
Ah that makes more sense, I read that as '50 a piece'.parodius wrote:50 pieces, not euros. I assume the price will be the same as the 1st batch, 80 euro.Gunstar wrote:Looks like this is finished. Re: New Saturn ODE by Ced
80 euros is still a phenomenal price. I eagerly await this business.
Re: New Saturn ODE by Ced
First groundbreaking retro product around the ESP32.
These chips are awesome and should be used a lot more!

I already have a Rhea in one of my Saturns. But I'm excited to see how this product turns out.

Re: New Saturn ODE by Ced
Especially considering the gdemu jackass took all his firmware down so I guess the only way to update it will be to mail them back to him every time there is an update.the Goat wrote:I already have a Rhea in one of my Saturns. But I'm excited to see how this product turns out.
Re: New Saturn ODE by Ced
Some of my optical drives on my Saturn are already dying.
Looking forward to just booting up my games via SD

Re: Fenrir - New Saturn ODE by Ced
RetroRGB have a review up:
A bit too early for me to jump in but excited to see the firmware improve
Compatibility List: https://8bitmods.com/blog/fenrir-compat ... st-redump/-It’s only compatible with 20-pin Saturns. Most model 1’s will work, but you need to open your Saturn to be sure.
-The firmware is still very early in it’s lifespan. In the short time I’ve been using the Fenrir, there’s already been two updates and some bugs I found were quickly fixed. As a result, it’s best to visualize this as finished hardware and in-progress software.
-At the time of this review, there’s no 2-disc support. Hopefully that will change too.

Re: Fenrir - New Saturn ODE by Ced
Firmware for Fenrir had an awesome update today, the game limit per SD card was bumped from 300 to 2,499 and now there is an option for Start+A+B+C to return you to the Fenrir game selection menu.
Re: Fenrir - New Saturn ODE by Ced
I hope there will just be a dual 20/21pin version like the Phantom Universal modchips.
Re: Fenrir - New Saturn ODE by Ced
really stoked to see the 21 Pin come so soon after the 20. Also the Dreamcast in the background of the photo is sort of a teaser and makes me wonder
Re: Fenrir - Saturn ODE by Ced
I'm looking to pick up a Fenrir for my Saturn, but I have a few questions:
1) Do I still need a working save battery in the Saturn, or will games save directly to the Fenrir? Is there any benefit in doing the FRAM mod along with using a Fenrir?
2) Is there any reason to consider MODE instead of a Fenrir? It seems to me that Fenrir compatibility is very good, and it is much more affordable, so is there anything I'm missing?
