Nice surprise from Play Asia

Post by ahnslaught »

Hey, anyone order a DS lite from Play Asia? I finally got mine today, and it came with a free GBA F-Zero cart! Pretty good deal for just having to wait a month, I say :D

Oh yeah, I got 2 play asia coupons up for grabs on the coupon thread!

I've only ever gotten candies from play-asia...

yesasia has given me a free magazine and poster once.

Anyway, even if you don't get free candy, buying a pack of candy is a nice way to add a dollar to your order (e.g. if you're a dollar short of being able to use a coupon)

I always get game stickers with my orders, but I've never gotten anything else. My orders usually consist of a single game though.

Every Play-Asia orders come with their stickers. Sometimes, Play-Asia sends some other random stuff.

Sometimes, YesAsia sends this HK gaming magazine with game orders.

I wonder if I'll get anything.. I ordered ESPGaluda, then ordered a J-PS2 a few days later. Sounds like I'm in for a sticker, at least!

I got a Famicom shaped notepad holder a few orders ago. I usually just get stickers. My first order came with some sweets.

That's pretty damn nice of them. They should start some kind of regular shopper reward card system. I'm only saying that because I've probably spent near £5000 on their site over the years, mind you.

ahnslaught - You had to wait a month for your DS Lite? I guess I shouldn't be surprised that it's taking them so long to ship my PS2. They shipped ESPGaluda right away, but then ESPGaluda doesn't weigh 6 pounds. I'm having trouble sleeping at night, thinking about that PS2.

I hope they don't ship it by ship. I hope I get pocky.

Hmm..that's funny. I ordered a JP PS2 from them a couple of months ago, and that was by far the quickest shipping I ever had from play-asia. Got it delivered via UPS withing a week, if I recall. Was it in stock when you ordered?

The reason I was fine with waiting so long for the ds lite were the stories going around that it was impossible to get in Japan; however, I wouldn't think a PS2 would be that hard to get (unless you ordered a specific color or whatnot). Anyway, good luck!

I'm pretty sure it was. I remember that the one I wanted, ceramic white, wasn't, but that the silver one was, so I ordered it... but I just checked Play-Asia, and the ceramic is now in stock, while the silver isn't. Maybe I grabbed the last one?

The estimated shipping date is still "on or before May 02", as it was on Monday.

Well, I haven't received ESPGaluda yet, and my PS2 hasn't shipped yet, either. There had better be a girl strapped to it when it arrives.

Let's just pray the girl strapped to your order isn't the DOA pillow thing :D

Did they mark down the price of it on the package?
I was thinking about getting one through them too, but am afraid of high import taxes/duties.

As for freebies with orders. Lik Sang put in a nice T-shirt once, a Hong Kong video game magazine the other time and also E3 DVD's on more than 1 occasion. :)

I noticed that the price on play-asia's site for DS lites have gone up to $200, but I got mine on preorder for $180-something, including shipping.

I've never had to worry about import taxes and stuff, and I get mine shipped to the US. I think you're supposed to declare them when filing your taxes or something? I'm not sure...I've only paid the shipping and not anything else like that. Anyone else have a better idea?

I think Super Laydock is referring to customs.

And a Kasumi pillow would cost me $90 on Tecmo's site. This can only be a bad dream. I really want that thing.

Well consider yourself lucky then. Around the launch of it there was a MAJOR shortage of DSlites in Japan (maybe there still is :?) so prices went up.
Since PA has got to get it's stock on the same market as the Japanese stores they met the same shortages and upped the price (as did about every other import store btw).

I am pretty much 100% certain that's not the case.
I was talking about import duties which would be charged when the game is offer at your door. You pay this tax for importing something from abroad. Small items up to a certain value are exempt (I am not sure about the spelling here at all ;)), but stuff at $180 certainly would be charged for.

So either you got very lucky or they marked the price down a lot and marked it a gift. I guess you wouldn't be able to check out the shipping box or would you?

Yeah, play-asia declares items as Merchandise, and at full value.

When I bought Mushihime-sama and two other games, I had to pay an additional $60 when it arrived at my door.

Same with my GP2X.

Even for single games, like ones that come in a tiny bubble envelope, I have had to pay over $12.

I try to buy from yesasia whenever possible. They declare stuff below value, but also mark them either as Gift, or as Commercial Sample..
I bought a GuitarFreaks controller and game from them recently. The package was positively enormous, but I didn't need to pay a single extra penny when it arrived.

Did anyone here ever ask Play-Asia to declare the order below value? I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they do it if you specifically ask them for it.

I have asked them to do it for all my future orders, declare at 50% value.

But they only did it for one of them :\

Hmm...good stuff to know. I really had no idea about potential extra charges, as almost every time the mailman would leave it in my mailbox, or they'd leave a slip and I'd pick it up at the post office.

Super Laydock - sorry, I couldn't tell you what was on the box. I threw it out just a couple of days ago.

ESPGaluda arrived! No candy, but I got a coupon and a MegaMan sticker!

My PS2 hasn't shipped yet. I mailed them to let them know that it doesn't have to be silver, any color would do.

np, just thought it was worth asking. :D

I just read that DSLite's release in Europe is certain for this summer (could be september at the latest ,right!?), so I am going to have to be a bit more patient. Then again around that time the Wii is also just around the corner,
and I should be close to having money to buy myself my first brand new car...

Choices, choices... :? :P

Car trumps all (at least in the US, but why not everywhere else?)

And yeah, patience is the best policy for the DSlite. I love it, but upon hindsight, I should've waited as well. It's only that I came across some money that month, and desire got the better of me

Play-Asia.com Customer Support message from 2006-05-08 17:26:00 HKT
Hi (hmk's name here),

thank you for contacting Play-Asia.com.

I am sorry to tell you that PlayStation2 Console Ceramic White is out of stock now. There are many customers ordered it. The first three items in the following link are still available currently. Would you consider them?

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-14-71-o-77-1-49-en.html

In case of any further question please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Best regards,

Michelle

I gave the go ahead for the Japanese charcoal black. Is there a difference between it and the cheaper "Asian" model, I wonder?

Anyway, this is getting tiresome.

EDIT: Back when I told them that any color would do, they shot me a "How about white?" email. I responded, "Yes, that would do quite nicely."
EDIT2: My opinion of region encoding, which wasn't all that far removed from demonic hatred to begin with, has only suffered.

I don't think there is a difference apart from the the DVD playback region codes (The jp one having region code 2 -Jp, Europe, Australia- playback and the Asian the region code for the most other part of Asia).
Another possible difference could be them being made in different factories (the Jp one made in Japan and the other made in China (for example). Maybe it's me but I'd prefer a Jp one in that case. :)

Looks like the "Asia" product has a different power interface, too: It contains a 100-240V power cord (UK plug), while the "Japanese" has a 110V power cord.
